Some impressions with OBD-Tuning the Superb TDi

Featured Replies

Just managed to get myself ended in a 2 week testing period with a ChipTuning installed via OBD-port of Superb. The promised power from this 1.9 TDi engine with that software was 175-180BHP and 400Nm of torque.

Based on my highly official a*s-dyno  this mod did only some minor improvements over the powerband. Engine was more willing to rev to higher RPM's but the power around the 2krpm was more or less the same as in original setup. Since I like to use this engine around 2-3krpm's I was not very impressed with the more revving nature of this engine. Good side is that the fuel consumption did not suffered a lot with this.

Also the occasional jerking when slightly slackening the pedal happened more frequently with this mod than usual (probably due slightly increased exhaust pressure which affects a worn EGR-valve)

Based on these experiences I returned this car of mine back to original but I will block the EGR valve with metallic plate and via VAG-COM software to stop this "jerking-action" to happen anymore and also the intake manifold carbon build-up should stop happening after that.

BTW, the engineer who tuned my car mentioned that these 130BHP Superbs have been measured more briskier in dyno (even 144BHP) than the factory officially acknowledges so maybe mine was just a briskier case at the start and that's why the power increase did not feel that dramatic...who knows.

Now been through that, not worth the extra $$$'s.

..just my 2cents...

Good man for being honest about it.
