Help on Install

Featured Replies

I thought it was time to upgraded the stock system in my Estate,

looking in the shed I have found a set of Kenwood components I used to have in my escort, just tried them in the front after a bit of hacking they now fit, I will put the crossovers under the dash and run new cable so I can restore the original speakers some day. just need to decide on rear speakers and what amps to use. I will be buying a Pioneer 7500 or similar MP3 model head unit and using a pioneer 12" sub , I have a 900W 4 channel amp. I just need help with a couple of questions.

1) Do I get a small amp to run the front Kenwood Speakers and mount this under the glove box area or run the large amp in the boot and run speaker cables back?

What is the best way of getting new cables into the door?

2) any suggestions on what speakers to use in the back should I disable the rear tweeters and put some full range speakers in the back running off the head unit or put a decent set of mid range and run off my existing amp with the sub if I get a new amp in the front.

3) where is the best place to mount the amp? I thought under the false floor but I am worried about over heating?

Thanks

Trev

Wiring to the door would be difficult, much easier to fit the xover between the door card and the metalwork , then run the wires from there.

As Manny says. Then just tap you amp wire into the oem wires before the door. Thats how i'll be doing mine anyway.

Regards the amp under a false floor. I currently have my Alpine M500 amp under a false floor. Been watching the temp through a remote control I have for the amp. My temp is getting as high as 34C.

34dC is not really anything to worry about...50+ is when you shoudl start to panic...over heating can be easily solved using a PC fan and simple relay switch connected to the amp..the fans come on and go off with the amp..two fans are a good idea one pulling air in one pushing air out one at each end of the amp to get the air following past it...

if you replace the speakers in the back and run them off the HU they will be drowned out due to the front being amped and the sub..what id surgest get a desent set of comps for the front and coax for the back.. if use your four channel amp to run your four speakers and get a separate two channel amp for the sub..this is of course without knowing the rms of what your speakers cna handle and what your amp gives out...however running two amps in this way does get the best results..you will have good control over the sound stage and sound of your system..

Good Good. No need for me to add any fans.

The fronts are "KFC 703 6.5 pearl mica woofer, Swivel dome tweeter, 170 Watts" I will check out the RMS of the Amp tonight

any suggestions on which speakers to use in the rear?

And a nice little amp to run my 12" pioneer Sub ?

Just need to make up my mind on a Head unit and hopefully get it running the over the weekend.

If it was me Trev. I would use 2 of the channels of you amp to power your front speakers. Then bridge the other 2 for powering the sub. Just run your rears of the head unit. I like my sound to be coming from the front of the car just like in your home and at a cinema, the sound comes from the front.

I agree with John there :)

I've posted a couple of threads for installing speakers in Fabia vRS door panels (replacing OEM ones). Believe me, using the OEM speaker wiring for going through the doors is the only option IMHO. Tried accessing the wiring loom to add more speaker cable in the rubber sheath sealing the door from the main car body - not a thing to do!

Also did a thread on a false floor installation. Both have pics that you may find useful ;)

Best of luck - these fabias are so well screwed together it can take some time to neatly conceal all the wiring!
