Anyone in the Midlands - recommend me a fitter for cruise control?

Featured Replies

Hi all

I purchased an X Reg (2000) Octavia I on Saturday morning. I'm loving the car so far, and is exactly what the doctor ordered with my new 20k+ miles a year job just around the corner. :)

I live in Shepshed (near L'boro), J23 of the M1, and i wondered if anybody could recommend an independant to fit me cruise control without charging the earth? All i've had back from the dealer so far is "it's too old - tough", but i suspect that was a salesman who answered the phone, not a member of the service team.

If you don't know a garage who could do it - perhaps one of you members with VAG-COM has fitted cruise to their car and wants to earn some beer tokens one weekend? :D

If the standard VAG cruise can't be fitted (how do i work this out?) then can anyone recommend an aftermarket unit to do the job?

Hi Eltax90

I'm also interested in cruise control fitment for my Octy Vrs Mk1 03 Plate

Finances allowing maybe we can get a reduced rate for more than 1 set ;)

If you search the forums i recall ther being a fitting guide/partlist and even a fitting service on offer from a regular user of the forums. Worth a look

Ah, OK. Is there an easy way to check the type of ECU i have? Or the type of throttle cable?

It's a Sept 2000 1.9 TDi, with the 110 lump in it. The trim level is SLXi.

I'm not familiar with your engine so I can't advise on a specific location but if you look at the throttle you should be able to see if it has a mechanical cable (from the accelerator pedal) or not. If theres no cable then I think the VAG cruise system should work. If there is a cable then it won't.

There's a company I know of in Stockton-on-tees which will fit a cruise system to cable throttle cars (they are a diesel specialist actually). I realise its a long way from you, but it shows that it must be possible :)

Hey all, after being confused here with whether my car has the right kind of throttle to fit cruise control or not, so i got clicky with the camera! Can anyone tell me which type of throttle i have and whther it's compatible with the VAG cruise stalk or not?

Thats a drive by wire. I'll check the specs but i'd fit it for £160.

If that includes supplying the stalk, then a fair price indeed for a Skoda MasterTech to do the work!

Have i got to go and buy the parts before that? If you supply the stalk for that price, aswell as fitting it, then i'll definitely be intersted. Drop me a PM and we shall organise something.

I'm off work from Friday this week, all weekend and all through to the end of next week (which is when i need it fitting by if possible). Whereabouts are you based mate? I'm in Shepshed, near Loughborough, and will go anywhere within reasonible distance. :D
