New Insurance Bands

Featured Replies

Hey guys/gals,

Was just browsing through the last issue of Auto Express the other day and there was a little article that said "The proposed change in the insurance bands, going from 0-20 to 0-50 has been postponed."

I hadn't even heard of them changing anything! Panicked I rushed to the website given:

thatcham.org | Research | Insurance Group Rating | ABI Group Rating

The article says it could save people money, but I think the switch will screw us all over somehow.

Here's the one relevant to me:

thatcham.org | Research | Insurance Group Rating | ABI Group Rating | Search Results

Fabia vRS goes into band 18. Sounds horrendous, but if it was a direct translation band 9 should be band 22/23. So it's actually gone down a bit, but do you think the insurance companies will drop their premiums? Because I don't!!

I would guess that premiums won't come down, and it will be used to push premiums up higher for cars at the top of their bracket, ie if you look at vehicles in group 20 there is a massive differance between say a Noble and a Veyron.

Pretty sure it's simply to pad out the grp 19's and 20's.

Rest of us wont be affected - unfortunately!
