Another wing mirror kicker victim

Featured Replies

Hi all

My 54 plate black Octy II Elegance diesel was a victim of our area's regular Friday night wing mirror kicker when it was a mere 3 weeks old. Luckily it put up a good fight and the assembly was only split apart a little bit and this is how it has been for the last 3 years (didn't want to pay to have it fixed, only for something similar to happen again).

It is due to go back to the lease company soon (to be replaced with race blue VRS diesel if my boss will let me have one!) and I need to get it sorted, preferably for less than the main dealer price plus admin fee that the lease car company will charge me if they get it back like that.

As none of the parts appear to be damaged, I'm hoping that a quick 'take it apart and put it back together' solution will work, but OH has already had a go at this without success.

Therefore, can anyone advise if the wing mirror can be rebuilt by a competent handyman type, and if yes, any tips? See pic below.

thanks!

You should have had one of them things like they have in Africa, Touch the car and a gas jet incinerates their legs from under the car, Teach em to kick other folks property for fun,

Would the lease company notice that?

Stand by it when you hand car over, once signed its nothing to do with you!!

Steve

Lease companies generally go over the cars with a fine tooth comb when taking them back.

The bottom section of the mirror including the indicator repeater/puddle light is held on with 2 torx secrews accessed from the top when the colour coded cover is pulled off. I would think the screw nearest the folding mechanism has been broken by your mirror kicking friend.

You could always try a little superglue as a temporary repair but the part itself is about £26 and is reasonably simple to DIY- I am doing mine tomorrow (again)

There has been some detailed photos on how to do this posted before - worth looking at.

As a fellow victim of Friday night damage to wing mirrors, I wondered where is the best place to get parts - or is it a dealer only option? Do people have a list of part numbers for glass and casing bits?

As already said you can get that part for under £30 to I'd probably just replace it whole.

This should probably minimize the problem about vandals, but of cause create a new problem
