Digital Camera

Featured Replies

Hi peeps,

Just wondering if you guys know of a good and cheap digi camera that I can take with me on going abroad 3 times this year.

I am looking for something quite sturdy, not so big as I am going on the bike and in the price range of approx £100.00 max (dont want one too expensive if it gets lost, stolen, crushed).

Your help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Olypus do a range called MJUxxxx and they are slightly ruggadised for outdoor use. They are decent little cameras and fairly tough. I personally had (until I lost it) a Fuji F20 which I used for cycling trips. This model is no longer made but you can still find its successor and big brother the Fuji F40fd (I think it’s the F45 in Argos?…around £120) and it is a superb small camera. It doesn’t have a massive mega Zoom or a silly amount of mega pixels (it has around 8, which is more than enough), but what it does is take great pictures. There isn’t a small digital camera that comes close to it imho for low light photography. In bars/Restaurants/Houses etc it is peerless. Sadly it has been replaced by the FD50 and this has 12 megapixels and is just like all the other digicompact and is not as good in low light. Trust me, this camera-FD40- rocks in low light (thanks to a slightly larger than average photosensor and not too many pixels). It also has a good lens too. Try one and grab it before it is too late. I intend to find one too and I already have a Canon A710 (great lens but noisy in poor light) and a Canon 350D, that’s how good I rate it’s low light performance. If you could find the earlier f31, then that is even better in low light.
