Building a PC

Featured Replies

Ok peeps, I've built it all, everything whirrs etc, but the reset button dosen't work and the power button switches on, but not off?

Any ideas?

Check the reset switch, make sure you have it on the right jumper

Have you tried holding the power button down for 5 seconds, this should force a power down

I've checked the jumper, and all looks ok, I've read the mobo instruction sheet and put in on the front panel connector on the right 2 prong thingys lol.

I've tried holding the power button down forever but to no avail lol

Try shorting the power pins on the mobo directly for reset and power on/off after you have removed the connectors.

double check the jumper settings for the connectors to the power buttons

take em off, put them on again.

does your mobo need two supplies plugged into it? one big one (20 or 24pin) plus a smaller 4pin usu yellow/black wires?

is your hdd plugged into power supply, and also mobo via sata cable?

try connecting everything with the mobo out of the case and powering on (to rule out a short)

any beeps from the mobo at all on powering up?

try only 1 stick ram, and try in different slots

to clear the bios take the cmos battery out for 30mins and also disconnect kettle lead from socket plus press the poweron button when all disconnected to completely discharge it (i have in past also set the jumpers to clear cmos and powered up the pc, but prob you won't have to do this

sometimes it ends up with you having a faulty psu or mobo despite them being new

Send the whole lot back for a refund and buy a Dell?

Send the whole lot back for a refund and buy a Dell?

In this case I'd be tempted to say if you are not 100% confident then send it back and buy a dell/apple/Mesh/HP/etc

Resolved,

The issue was simply that I had only plugged in part of the power supply. I had power to the motherboard, but not the processor. All works now, and is running like a dream, Thanks for all the help!

Easy innit:)

And a motoring forum too!

It's the first place someone should look when builing a PC or with any IT questions, a Skoda forum. :)

Good point lol
