body trim query

Featured Replies

Hi all

This is probably a simple question, but im looking at colour coding all the black trim on my red octavia VRS, i was wondering if anybody on this great site knows how to remove them of the car without breaking it, if any body out there can help with anythink like removing the trim, or what fixings they are on or tips that would be fantasic,

thanks rev-trev

i have just done my trims on my octy ,and they are pretty easy to remove. for the side trims you will be better off ordering a new set from skoda ,as they tend to kink when you remove them. They only cost 26 plus vat.To remove them ,just carefully prise one end away and pull off .I then used a toffee wheel(look on e-bay) to remove the backing, sprayed the strips and re-applied them. The front and rear trims are held on with clips and can be removed by carefully using a small flat screwdriver to ease one end out ,the you can easily unclip the trim all the way round. When you paint the trims, just sand them with wet and dry, apply a plastic primer ,then apply plenty of coats of high build primer ( sanding between coats) then at least 4 topcoats.I then aapplied 5 coats of clear laquer while the last top coat was still tacky. I dont know whether you need laquer with the red, but i had to use it as mine is silver .IMO the car looks much tidier. hope this helps --dave
