Better clutch for 4x4

Featured Replies

Any recomendations for a better clutch for a 4x4 Octy, detected a little slippage yesterday whilst touring a disused Army camp in Hampshire when my foot slipped off the clutch pedal, I dont want to go changing fly wheels etc, justwondered if the Golf 4motion or TT might fit, guess as its a different gearbox probably not.

Anyone any thoughts or recomendations

go to apr and get a sachs uprated clutch, i got one on the way to me now from them. cant say what its like as i haven't even got it yet

Keep us posted...

(still on my original clutch at 65k!)

i have the sachs kit

was not aware it was an APR product...

got mine from Mike @ IP

comes with fly wheel. but is peasy fit.. barely anymore work...

Stuart, all the Octavia 1.8T engines share the same clutch pressure plate, 225mm clutch plate, and flywheel - so you can go for any of the uprated clutches which our vRS owners have fitted successfully.

sorry for the confusion paul, i ordered it from IP and i only said APR cos thats what the link on the site said.

whats the flywheel/clutch like??

does it make much differencr, i can't wait to get the blighter fitted

Yes it does make a difference.

IMHO, slightly lighter feel than the standard one. The new flywheel is also slightly lighter than tstandard and IIRC (well mine was) it's single mass. Bit rougher on idle but spins up better.

bloke at IP told me the flywheel is 15kg rather than the standard 20kg! and yes it is a single mass unit, didn't know what these did.

turns out the normal flywheel soaks up some of the oomph when you boot it by the way of sprung weights. supposed to make it smoother but does actually take away some of the kick from your car

Hey guys, how many miles should one expect from a std clutch anyway?? I've got 149k kms (92,500 miles) on my A3 TQ, 49k kms (30+ miles) since chipping. So should I be waiting for the clutch to start going? When it's time to change I've already decided upon the ECS Stage 1 kit with the 14lb Steel flywheel, but I FEAR the labor costs of install

Thx,

i would have expected it to fail about 80000miles ago.

mine lasted 4k.

 Yeah, and from what I've seen, you've prolly gone through about 4 more sets of tires than me too

drill, my cars on 93k and is standard and my clutch hasn't even gone, its the thrust bearing that has gone. started rumbling, that lasted a couple days then all of a sudden the clutch wouldnt disengage properly so you might be better off just changing it so you dont damage the gear box.

and the labour involved on the clutch for your car is a book figure of about 9 hours and the kit i got on the way is another

Thx dude :( 9 HOURS Labor is scary  But at least I can get the parts a bit cheaper. US$400 for clutch and flywheel :) But still, it's pretty damned expensive :smashfrea

yay, my parts came this morning and i got a local vw/audi specialist getting a quote ready as we speak
