Octavia Elgance TDI Est TDI

Featured Replies

Hello to you all, and I hope someone can shed some light on this problem.

I have an Octavia elegance Est 2001. The car has been very reliable. But On saturday 26 I heard a squeeking noise ( like fan belt slip ) , This only happen when you moved the climate control from Econ to Auto. The car is very rarely on Econ. Anyway switced it from Auto to Econ and back again and the noise went.

I have looked on the net and it seems that car AC looses about 15% of its gas a year, Now I dont think mine has ever been checked, I have owned the car from new. I purchased one of the self re-gas bottles from Halfords (134A) with the pressure guage on it, with the engine running it showed the pressure as being OK ( In the Green ).

When I set the Temp to low on auto the fans speed-up, the temp seems to drop a little but not cold cold, Is there anyway to check that the AC pump / compressor is working correctly ? If I lift the bonnet and look just inside by the O/S head light there is a silver type can, this feels cold to touch but not freezing cold.

If I have the pressure guage connected on the low pressure side and increase the revs should the pressure fall slightly. ?

Thanks for looking

Well after some investigation into the fault on my Skoda, it seems that the poxy nut that holds the clutch had decided to come off, the result of this 10mm nut missing is the splines on the shaft becomming stripped. Anyway Skoda wanted £745 for the ne compressor + £140 to fit and regas.

I did some searching on the net and found the same part for £296 inc VAT and Delivery from

Compressor for Skoda OCTAVIA 1 9 SDI Diesel Man Auto Jun 99 to May 04

I decided to mail Skoda UK for some assistance towards the cost of repair, as it would seem that this nut in not part of any service inspection. Skoda replied with a NO on the following grounds Age of the car, (2002 ) Milage of the car ( 88K ) and the use of none genuine parts, I replied with the age and milage is irrelvent and the use of no genuine parts was a copout as the part may not have come from the skoda stock pile but it most certanly the same part they would have supplied to the dealer, as Skoda do not make AC compressors but SANDEN do, The dealer who did the repair were great very helpful, and fully understood my cocerns over the cost of the part, They could have also said not to fitting the " NON Genuine Part ) but they didn't.

Top marks to Rainworth Motors ( Nottinghamshire )

Skoda UK:thumbdwn: however they did say they would look at the pricing of the compressor

Hello

I do not have air conditioning, but here goes. The belt slip happens on full power due to the increased demand of the ac unit (if its on auto rather than econ). Your alternator belt (which also drives the ac I believe) might be a bit loose. This might lead to the battery losing charge over time. You should test the battery voltage with a voltmeter, when running. The belt might slip if you turn all electrics on (excepting the ac unit). If the belt is loose Im fairly sure it will not drive the ac unit properly. Any problems with steering?

If you have a laptop and VAG com you could run a diagnostic test. Or pay a man who has the diagonstic tools.
