IPOD connection

Featured Replies

I have a MKII 2007 model year octavia with the AUX connection inside the centre arm rest. I have no problem using the IPOD connected to this but my wife is complaining of near accidents when trying to do two things at once like drive and change the track on the ipod .

Basically im wanting to make it so she can control and charge the IPOD from the headunit. I know the dealer can enable this and probably relieve me of about £100 for the honour.

Does anyone know anywhere that does this cheaper or is it a simple DIY job that i can do myself with the right cables etc

Cheers

Dension offer a range of products that will replace your CD changer and allow for varying degrees of control.

I also believe that Dension also do a version that allows you to keep using your cd changer as well as use you ipod.

Take a look at Products if you get the universal aux input version, it'll charge the iPod and allow you to keep using the Aux input connection, therefore also keeping your CD Changer (OK you're need a little 2x RCA to 3½mm adaptor for a few pennies). This will be the cheapest Dension option, but won't pause the iPod when Traffic News (or a phone call) comes in...

The problem with those options is that you still need to use the ipod to control the music, not the stereo like with the proer icelink that replaces the cd changer, so unfortunatly it does not solve the original problem.

Another thing you could do is just buy an Ipod remote control from all good ipod sellers (and some rubbish ones too). It's £35 but it connects to the ipod at one end and then clips to your clothing/seatbelt on the other.

You can change the volume, move track back and forwards and play/pause/switch off with it. It's not perfect but it's what I use.
