Time & distance or Variable Service? Which is best?

Featured Replies

Should my second hand superb2 elegance be on variable or time & distance servicing.

It has been on variable for it's first 73k, however the dealer reckons it would be best on time and distance? And said he got it changed prior to me collecting. I have just checked the MFD and the dealer hasn't changed the service type and the display says 16400 or 699 days till service. Should I be worried or is variable ok? Why would variable be offered if it wasn't a good thing?

Are you sure that he has not changed it, remember that the fixed service could be 2 years. It really depends how you use the car but personally I tend to stick with fixed period and mileage though servicing at 12 months which, in my case, equates to 8.5K > 9.0K miles. Flexible servicing was meant to keep the (company) car on the road longer and in the garage less.

Always, always time and distance!

I have just taken delivery of a new Superb which caused a little confusion in relation to service intervals.

The factory sticker on the car states 20,000 miles which is the same as written in the service book with the earlier of 28th November 2013 and 20,000 miles. However, the handover documentation stated 12 months or 10,000 miles whichever is earlier.

I took this up with both the sale and service staff who eventually agreed that the longer period is normal BUT if you undertake high annual mileage it should be on a twelve month basis.

I hope this agrees with other owners understanding.
