As the control stalk on before 2010 where separate unit, while the current one is a combined unit  also the connectors and the controller are now buil in the slip ring itself, the current stalk and slip ring are not compatible with old cruise control module.

I have had cruise control fitted to a facelift Octavia II.  There are 3 different steering column electronic control modules (ECM) and 6 different combi switch options so it isn't as straightforward as pre-FL models.  The combined stalk costs a fair bit more than the single stalk option and, if you need to replace the ECM as well, I would guess that the overall cost would be way over £300.  I was lucky in that my car's steering ECM supported cruise.
