Hi Folks, just trying to get to grips with what I am sure is an amazing Sat Nav function in the Columbus unit installed in my new Superb. However, since I've spent years using Tom Tom I am not as "dialled in" as I should be. The instruction book doesn't seem to be helping so can anyone tell me (in simple language...simple bloke you see!) how:-

1. I can just enter a postcode for my destination (most of the time I know the postcodes of where I am going)?

2. Add a destination to my "favourites"?

3. Call up a "favourite" destination quickly?

Grateful as always for all responses.

1:  Latest version of Columbus software suports full 7 digit post code.
You can then add premise number if known.

2:  You have the option to add to a "favourite" or to recall from recent destinations vistied
You can add a "favourite" when arriving at destination for added accuracy for the future

3:  Depends what your definiton of quickly is but you can get there with NAV->New Destination-> FAV and then a slide bar..
Going home I press the voice activation and say nav / home (speak what you see on the screen)

PM me and I'll send you a copy of the instruction manual.

Stevewheel,

Is your car new to you or brand new?

Either way the best instruction are not in the big manual but is in the Columbus manual which should be in the pack if not talk to the dealer who sold it (f it was not a private sale then there should be a discount for it).

Can I please ask a question regarding the Voice Control Operation of the Columbus System...I can see from a picture of the unit, at the top right hand corner is the voice control button. My question is...is there a button on the steering wheel that can do the same job...so as to avoid continually reaching across to say voice commands? Many thanks.

you only have to press the button once on the Columbus after that its all done with voice control, and no you cannot use the steering wheel button its only for the phone.

If I press in the rotary wheel on the left side of the steering wheel, that activates the voice control for the Columbus.

Danny...do you mean the button on your steering wheel DOES work the voice control in the same way as the button in the top right hand corner of the Columbus unit?

I can confirm (as I use it all the time now) that by depressing the volume control rotary switch on the steering wheel at it's leftmost edge will activate voice control.

A Columbus question from me - did any recent car buyers get a copy of the navigation dvd, or was it just loaded on the hard drive?

Jan 2012, initialy found it by accident and now use it all the time.  It is not mentioned in the Columbus manual incidently, but if you look at page 133 in the communication section of the car manual it mentions it there.

On a slightly different tack...In the Navigation mode, and using Voice Control, can you enter a new destination by `Saying` a postcode...or must you enter it by hand via the screen?
Secondly...can you enter a destination postcode whilst on the move, or must the car be stationary? (My current car needs to be stationary...something to do with the statalites) Many thanks.

You cannot "say" a postcode, or at least I have not found out how to do it.  It asks for a city/town name (manual says there are over 30,000 in the unit) and again is surprisingly good.  If there are a number of matches it lists them with a number associated with them and you just say the number.  then street, then interesection or premise number,  then Start.

Yes you can enter data on the move.  (eg for things like new destinations, traffic jams ahead, stopovers etc.,)

Everything such as switching between functions eg radio to media to sat nav to entering destination and choose tracks etc.

Plus on set up you can choose long or short descriptions which are shown on the large screen
