Those vRS owners with oil consumption issues...

Featured Replies

Bought a second vRS for swmbo & myself & for 'much cheapness',

that was a real bargain thanks to the un-necessary scare over 'high oil usage starting to have an effect on second hand values.

Arranged with a Skoda Dealer that as soon as any announcement of the Final productions of MK2 vRS models comes,

to call me and i will put in an order for a new one.

Cant see production of them going on for much longer without some Major changes.

Interested to see if the SEAT facelift Twin Charger does become available here.

Do not really fancy a Polo GT Blue with Cylinder deactivation, or any other 'de-activation cylinder vehicle', from VAG or anyone else.

I just can not bring myself to own and drive an Audi, even tho i almost have a few times now.

RS 3 is amazing & 185bhp A1 so comfortable... pity.

I saw a GT86 at Goodwood along with the original Hachi-Roku BTCC car. Both looked fantastic but I did leave them stumped when I asked could I fit roof racks to one. They sent me all the brochures but nothing says it does. The rear seats do fold so I could get my rods in at least. I'd love one but I'd wait for the inevitable fast turbo'd version.

Not sure what to get next since I'm happy with what I've got. I'm tempted to go away from VAG completely and try something else. Hoping to keep the vRS for at least 5 years and by then I'm hoping to have my own house so may keep the vRS for my daily and buy a weekend toy instead.

I love the look of those, but they are "slow" for a 2L. Our cars standard are on par engine performance wise

I wanted to test drive an Auto BRZ, but could only get a GT86 Auto.

They are miles behind ours.

We can at least surprise other drivers.

In a GT86 you will just embaress yourself IMO.

You will keep your licence because of ending up just cruising along looking the part after the first time that some old man in a Honda Civic leaves you looking a proper prat. (got the T Shirt.)

Any rear wheel diesel BMW will leave you for dead, & without waggling the back end all over the place.

My worst driving let down yet/ever..

Difficult to know where to go next after the vRS in terms of value for money and ultimate driving experience (plus reliability!). The GT86 engine has to be worked hard for brisk performance and could be a pain as an everyday driver.

Slightly off subject, but the car that has given me the greatest driving pleasure for the least amount of money in recent years was the GTM Libra (not a bad track day car too). Think Lotus Elise but more practical and cheaper to insure. Shame that Westfield have stopped production and are sitting on the design. Used examples are often to be found on Pistonheads for between 4 to 5 grand.

If I can't get mine sorted I think we'll go for an Octavia VRS Estate (Petrol DSG). Really really like the Fabia, just a shame about oil use :(

you could get another fabia vRS... mine doesn't use a drop.

Polo GTI 1.4 TSI Twincharged Factory Recall – Engine Piston Rings

EVO Magazine issue 162 highlighted a problem with the engine on early 1.4 twincharged Polo GTIs.

The Polo 1.4TSI GTI apparently has high oil consumption as standard with VW saying it is normal for the car to use 1 litre of oil every 1243miles or 2000km.

“a batch of early twin-charged 1.4 TSIs have suffered from faulty piston rings, with a small handful of cars needing new engines” is what Stephen Dobie wrote.

So if you have a Polo GTI it is worth keeping an eye on the oil level and possibly the coolant level at the Polo EVO had on test had also used around 600ml of engine coolant.

Just thought this might be interesting ?

Issue 162 was back last year. Think they still have the vRS estate on test but haven't bough Evo in a while

Yeah last year martyn however was the fabia vrs using this particular engine still? , and the polo gti has now got the updated engine with the issues all resolved? When is the new 1.4tsi going into the fabia ?

Do you know anything about the Up-Dated engine in a Polo GTi, or what will go in a New SEAT's?

(do you mean improved quality internals & design correction or some total revised engine?)

I have a feeling this is they way VAG will be going, Cylinder Deactivating and stuff.

I will be Happy if the vRS engine stays available as is, for a while yet.

The polo has no fix currently their were rumours that a revised engine(cave) to cure this problem the latest is theirs a revised breather cooler pipe but no one I yet to have this part fitted they still waiting for it to be available

As for the Ibiza they still have issues but they will replace the engine with no guarantee of fix

The audi was rumoured to be already getting the fixed but theirs no evidence to back this up

Luck of the draw sadly

The cylinders have been re- engineered I think, the polo gti is very popular in Italy but oil consumption is an issue there too, but I read somewhere that the newer updated engine & dsg has had major changes

Hmmmm...mine's a CAVE engine and the low oil light came on with just under 3000 miles on the clock. Good or bad? It did 650 miles in a day (including the last 60 miles at Autobahn speeds  ) to Germany yesterday although its cooled down too much to check the level, and its parked on a slope...

If you have only used, say, a litre in 3k miles, and the consumption reduces with added mileage then that would be OK.

Recently found out that vag are on there second generation of 1.4tsi engine but on their 17th generation of software for it..... Im definetly going to be avoiding this engine in future

...and to think I put my shortlist down to anything WITH this engine - and thats after a Scirocco which burnt a piston out due to wrong plugs..

Quick question - how much is needed to take it from a "low oil" light to full again? It was a cold start when it bleeped up, so just added half the complimentary litre of of oil they supplied in a pretty bad velcro'd to the back seat (and it includes wipes for the dipstick!). As it wasn't hot, I can't (apparently) check the level correctly and didn't fancy driving any further without adding any oil...
