Smart Car Fortwo

Featured Replies

A friend recently offered me the opportunity to drive his 2007 Smart Fortwo Brabus 700cc with 35k on the clock. Below is a brief summary of what I found, having never been near such a car before.

Exterior:

Handsome in my opinion with good quality alloys. This model was silver with black trimming inte right places you might say. Brabus additions made the car look even funkier than normal.

Interior:

Lots of leg room with comfortable leather seats. Plastics high quality and switchgear all had a good feel. Steering wheel not adjustable, which was a surprise, and seat had no height adjustment. Coped with my slender 6ft frame easily. Dash mounted rev counter and clock were effective and adjustable. Paddle gear shift supplemented the auto box.

Loads of headroom. Glass roof gave extra feeling of room and airiness. Felt like I was sitting in a well equipped family car.

Boot was surprisingly spacious and practical. The weeks shopping able to fit in easily by raising the rear window and leaving boot gate in situ.

On the Road.

Auto gearbox had a significant lag between gears (nothing like dsg on my Octy), although I soon realised this could be controlled to an extent by relaxing the gas pedal at the right time. Tiptronic gear stick function worked well and I preferred it to the auto or paddle shift. Car felt every bump in he road and reminded me of a mk1 golf GTI. Can't comment on handling. Motor was very noisy and sounded like a screaming Porsche. Engine performance was relaxed unti the gas pedal went down and he turbocharger kicked in. Then the whole car went absolutely mad.

Summary:

Funky. Noisy. Bumpy. Bonkers. Brilliant. Loved it!
