Superb Delivery Leadtime

Featured Replies

I was curious about people's experience on delivery times for new superbs.

I ordered mine about a month and a half ago. Standard 1.8TSI, DSG Elegance, steel grey, no extras. Was told 2-3 months (still well short of that). Just been told that it is being built and will be ready middle to the end of May, and that THEN they will have an idea of when I can have it. That implies it will take a full month to build.

Are other people's experiences similar? Is any one else waiting on a new one like me and wondering what the wait is for?

Also, do they actually build the cars new, from scratch in Czech Republic or are they already built in the UK in storage somewhere (especially as they are ending this version of the superb), ready to be dusted down and sent out. Dealer insists they are being built but I have heard other stories to the contrary.

Not sure about the Superb, but from my experience of buying 2 Octys 'off the shelf' each time there's only been a few in the national stock to choose from and my Blackline was actually somewhere on the continent when I secured it so if my experience is typical then it looks like Skodas don't spend ages stockpiled at grimsby!

I ordered my new superb 1.8 tsi Dsg Elegance at about the same time as you,I was told build date would be end of April and ready for me towards the end of May, Though Skoda often do have small stocks of standard vehicles available it doesn't mean that what you may want even without any extras is sitting in a field somewhere like a couple of other well known manufacturers who shall remain nameless, its could the colour or the Dsg that is not available that make your order a factory one, then when built it then has to wait to be shipped along with many more orders, when it arrives in this country it has to wait again to be transported to your dealer, then the dealer has to prepare the vehicle ready for you-so a month from build time to you getting your vehicle is not so bad.

Terry, be interested to hear when you get a date for yours. I am getting the vibe that it will be early to mid June before I get anything; just over 3 months from ordering. The rest of what you say makes sense.

This is my first new car purchase, is this sort of lead time common amongst other manufacturers?. I guess Superbs are not sold in the same volumes as smaller cars so not having one in stock should be no surprise.

At least the wait should mean they are making it from scratch and it hasn't been sitting around in, as you say, a field.

When I was serving with the RAF in Germany in the 80s I ordered a duty free non-standard UK spec Audi 100CD5E. I took delivery of the car at a German Audi dealership just 2 days after it had been built. I can't remember exactly how long between ordering and the car being built but it was a matter of weeks rather than months.

The very next day after answering your first post I received a phone call from my dealer,( just by the way I assume your dealers to be Underwoods ) that my Superb had left the factory and is awaiting shipment and would be available to me in four to five weeks, so on that basis I would have thought that your vehicle could be ready around the same time as mine because depending on how many vehicles my dealer (Vindis, Bury-st- Edmunds) would be expecting, that your Superb could be on the same transporter, Of course I could be completely wrong but I hope not.

Ordered my Superb hatch 170 4x4 with a few extras on Feb 25th, dealer has not been great at keeping me informed, but after a few emails and phone calls I believe that car will be built week 22 ( 2nd week in May) but this has not been 100 percent confirmed. My current vehicle tax expires on June 1st, and dealership have mentioned that they will supply a loan car if new one has not arrived by then. Altogether not the best state of affairs. Unless I can get dates confirmed very soon I will probably cancel order and pick up a low mileage or pre-registered one from auto trader

I would hold out and enjoy having one of the first facelift models around. Once they can give you a build week then they usually stick to their schedule unless there is some major (rare) hiccup.

Make sure your dealer knows you want up to date reports.

terrylock1, interesting, when exactly did you order your car? I ordered mine 5th March.

They did have to change the colour a few weeks ago I wonder if that has held things up.

I'm Underwoods (Colchester)

I believe that car will be built week 22 ( 2nd week in May)

Week 22 is week commencing 27 May.

I ordered my Superb on the 28th of February, one week before you with quite a lot of extras, panoramic roof, kessy, wood trim, electric tailgate Dsg, so our orders are quite close. Hope you have a better experience with Underwoods than I did. Also any Superbs ordered prior to end of March, when dealers stopped taking orders for Superbs would as I have been given to believe would be non facelift models-they have only recently started taking orders for facelift models.

Sorry my mistake, it is actually week 20 not 22 as i said. I have also had a colour change due to the inability to supply shark blue

Ordered mine on 9th April ( 2.0 TDI Hatch CR140 Elegance with DAB radio) although may not have been put through immediately as I needed to return with proof if ID to be approved for the interest free deal which possibly delayed things a few days( I've had credit cards cloned in the past and my credit file has a warning to establish really me on it!) Dealer phoned this morning with expected build date week 20 (w/c 13 May) expected delivery date to me late June / 1st week July. I'm assuming it will be the pre FL version as I would have expected the dealer to have said if it was going to be the new one......but here's hoping.

Have they actually started taking orders for FL models now? Prices aren't out yet are they?

The problem dealers have is that nonew wants to turn down sales at the moment. The new revision may well come at a higher price point, but Skoda certainly won't want to run for a month or two without being able to sell new cars. My guess is that orders placed at the correct time will be honoured, and that many people may get the new model at the old price. This is more of a benefit for twindoor orderers, because the body revisions are more apparent.

At last, I have a build completion date of week 20, (13-19th May), with a following wind (and a small amount of hassling - if it helps) I may even have the thing by the second week of June.

Apparently the car is already being built. Is that, right do cars normally take best part of a month weeks to be built?.

Usually on a train to Emden within a week or less of the build date. as with all manufacturers they operate a very slick system of despatch from the factory gates. The next part is the wait for the ship which will take probably a day to load, then a day to sail over to the designated port and then a day to unload, then a couple of days to reach your dealer. Both my Superbs have been in the dealers compound within 10 days of production week.

have a look at Port of Emdem on Google earth and see how many cars are parked up awaiting boats on that snapshot. I still laugh when I think of the time I looked it up as my wife looked over my shoulder and she said that they must sell a lot of white cars!!!

I ordered mine 22 January and was given build week 10 (w/c 4 March). Unfortunately as it was Shark Blue it didn't get built and I only discovered this on 26 March. Skoda UK had some difficulty finding out too. To save time as I could not afford to wait for a new one to be built to my spec I was given a list of cars that had just arrived at the port or were at Emden. In the end the only additional items I didn't get were the upgraded speakers and auto dip mirror. The car did then take nearly 2 weeks including Easter to get to the dealer from the port. Skoda did however give me 3 years free servicing for all the hassle and they kept in touch with me throughout to tell me what was happening. In the end I think I rather prefer the Rosso Brunello to Shark Blue so am very satisfied.

My Superb was ordered on 28th February, I was informed by my dealer that it had been built and awaiting shipping on 23rd of April, was contacted by dealer yesterday to be given the registration number and because I have to have the car converted to hand controls an agreed handover date of 20th of May was decided, I consider that the time from ordering to collecting is quite reasonable, as I have memories of the days when vehicles from certain car manufacturers could be ordered and delivered within a fortnight but unfortunately a lot of those cars had been built up to a year previously and been sitting on old airfield runways before being sold, I would sooner wait like we have to now and know that the vehicle that you ordered has been built just for you.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just had a call from my Dealer today to tell me that my Superb 170ps 4x4 Hatch with a few extras has now been built, this was ordered on February 25th at which point the estimated delivery time was end of May, so it looks like it should just about be onshedule by the time it arrives here

Good to hear MLJ, seems like they are being fairly accurate with their estimates so far. Have they given you an idea for final delivery or is that in the lap of the gods as discussed previously on this thread?

Hoping I hear about build completion on mine this week (week 20).

Patience is a virtue, I keep telling myself.

Will post delivery date as soon as I am advised, but sales exec said not to phone him until after a week on Thursday, he was of on his hold !!!!!!!!!

Just got the shout from the dealer, car build completed early next week (20th may) and delivery 2-3 weeks later.

I could be seeing my new car before the end of May. Pretty much on schedule then.

Just had a call from Skoda customer service who tell me car is still sitting in Emden, but they do not seem to be able to find out any shipping schedule, seems odd, you would think the number of cars they have to ship into the number of ships they have sheduled for sailing would be quite an easy calculation

   Things seem to be speeding up, just had a call from dealer to tell me that car is now at a UK port ( although not sure which one) and they are aiming for May 29th or 30th to hand over to me, seem such a long time since Febraury 25th when I ordered it
