dpf fault tests

Featured Replies

is there a way to check if the dpf is ok?

I do 2 miles to motorway, 68 miles at 70 to 80 and another 5 at 30 to 40. I do thos twice daily- I would guess ideal conditions for dpf?

as soon as I have a day off and do a bit of town driving (maybe town and back twice-a mile a time) I can feel the jerky hesitation of a regeneration (at least that's what I guess it is)

when I was off for a few days, by the third day of town and back driving, the dpf light was on. that was town and back 5 times.

is it normal for a dpf? I have only ever owned sheds when it comes to cars, this is all new to me.

I was thinking maybe the dpf is dying, but my normal journey keeps it at bay until I have a day off and it clogs again.

or am I all wrong and this is normal? my only worry was I go on holiday in a month. lots of short journeys and where I am going there are no nice long roads to give it a blast.

if this is normal, how do town drivers cope?

At 122,000 miles I would say it needs a new dpf, think I have read somewhere that they are good for about 80-90,000 miles with sensable use. I think your daily routine has extened its life very well.

A wee tip, stop using top gear once a week (5th or 6th ) not sure as you give no car details?

Once a week on your run give it a bit of hokey cokey up to 60/70 but leave top gear out of your daily drive, this will help clear the cobwebs.

The VM's recommend a replacement interval but thats just to cover their ar5es when a car gets to a certain age.I clean DPF's out and have some cars with nearly 200k on them with no issues at all.

You can check the ash level with VCDS. At 122k this may be the issue with the dpf.

don't know if it was faulty, but the guts of it are in a workshop bin now. first impressions- good. car a lot happier and smoother. didn't get a chance to see if it goes better in the rain and traffic, so will see in a minute when I leave for work...
