High Oil Consumption / SKODA SUPERB 2.0 TDI 150

Featured Replies

Hello,

Recently bought a 176k mileage 2017 Superb for a run-around daily, around 2 months later came across an issue with very high oil consumption. It is almost like it is mysteriously vanishing, no leaks, absolutely zero smoke of any colour, and went through about 5 litres of oil in 2k miles. The people that i have been getting advice from made it very unclear what the issue could be. I was told it could be something silly or could be piston rings/turbo, and i doubt that the PCV and the crankcase breather could cause this issue. Ran a scan and it had 0 faults whatsoever so i am absolutely clueless what the issue could be. And frankly this is the first VAG car i own. All i know is that the DPF is gutted and i am not sure if that can be linked to the issue.

Would it be worth the money and time finding the problem and repairing it, or should i just sell it as is? Because i heard piston rings are a common problem on these engines and that would either lead to the engine being reconditioned or swapped. Anything but the piston rings i would be more than happy to take a look at and potentially get fixed and replaced. Because any repair above 2-2.5 grand would not financially make sense for me or the car itself because of its market value and mileage.

Would be happy to hear any advice on how to proceed with this situation.

Welcome to the forum. Worth doing a search & looking at many other threads with very much the same as your post.

Welcome to the forum.

Having a compression test done to check condition of piston rings would be my suggestion - 5 litres in 2k miles, wow!
