I out-dragged a Yaris!

Featured Replies

Slightly pointless post but it made me chuckle...

We've just returned from a weekend away with our folding camper (half caravan/half tent-like thing, weighs about 900kg). We'd had to stop at the end of the motorway slip-road due to traffic lights and we were heading straight ahead onto a dual carriage-way.

Though I'm limited to 60MPH when towing on dual carriageways it doesn't mean that I feel the need to dawdle when setting off so off I went when the lights turned green. Meanwhile the Yaris next to me must have decided he didn't want to be slowed down by someone towing so went into the next lane (also valid for heading straight ahead) and set off when the lights went amber to make sure he got an extra head start.

Bless him, I could hear his little engine trying but he'd obviously not realised that I was accelerating faster than he was and in the end I had to slow down to let him pull in to my lane. We hadn't even reached 50mph at this point. :giggle:

Funny as I found it, what was scary was his lack of observation - he'd started indicating to pull in without even making sure he'd actually overtaken me; hence me slowing down to avoid a Yaris shaped dent in my front wing.

Had a similar thing happen on our 40mph ringroad comming off an island with a rangie revving it's nuts off in the right hand lane. Similar to you I wasn't even trying and actually backed off to save him complete embarresment. My 18 year old son thought it was a hoot!
