Transmission Whine

Featured Replies

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone else with a VRS has noticed a slight whining noise when accelerating in 2nd and 3rd, it's most noticeable when accelerating in 2nd gear and then taking your foot off the accelerator and letting the car slow down whilst still in gear. The noise isn't present when the clutch is pressed down.

Any thoughts, does anyone else's car do this?

Thanks,

Jon

Mine does this since fitting my valeo solid flywheel and clutch kit. But only really in 1st and 2nd when slowing down in gear around 1500-1000rpm

Yeah mine had the same fault without looking at the car Ali at unit 18 said main gearbox bearings or something estimate to fix around £700 if it is that it at his garage I'm hoping that its not but the whine your getting does it kind of sound like a rally car gearbox

If it was the bearings would it be all the way through the revs, accelerating and deccelerating?

Don't scare me ha, mine only done it since the valeo kit was fitted. Standard dmf never done it.

Oil level OK ??

Mine wasn't at first until it was nearly gone once Ali gets back to me with a definite fault ill let you know mine towards the end was present all the time but most noticeable when accelerating in 1st 2nd and 3rd let's just hope for you it's nothing major, I'm clueless when it comes to smf's

Thanks for the replies, the symptoms sound very much like mine, I guess it's anther expensive problem to add to the list of things that will need fixing if I keep the car long enough, although at this rate that might not be very long.

Yeah I was contemplating on getting rid o mine but I thought sod it so I'm just goin to fox it and then drive it for a couple more years,

If your driving with an smf then you will get whining from the box as there are no springs or anythibg to dampen and take away the noise. Mine was done over a year ago now driven hard at suitable times and its still fine not got any worse.
