Koni str.t and Eibach pro springs ...initial thoughts.

Featured Replies

Well done it today , been waiting for a few months for the koni str.t shocks to arrive , now have fiited them. Previously been running eibach pro spring with standard vrs shocks for a while now. After much reseach and cost counting decided on trying the koni str.t dampers all round. I know on here the preferred choice is Bilstien's ...so i like to try something different.

Today was not the best day to test them as it was raining all day and quite heavily. But my initilal thoughs were that the ride quality is a lot better than the standard vrs shocks, ( Althought i am aware that with over 50,000 miles on the clock ) any new shock will feel better. The quality seems quite good almost as good as the yellows ( had them years agon on mk2 gti golf ). The car does feel better on the road and although not ideal , can carry more speed though corners already with confidence. On the whole seems like a nice but not radical upgrade , can't wait to put a few more miles and corners under the belt in the dry to really see how much a difference they make compared to the eibach pros on standard vrs dampers ...watch this space :bandit:

Thanks for the feedback, I'm installing my eibach springs (and leaving the standard shocks in) next week. I'll be back with thoughts :)

(my target is not a handling upgrade, rather an esthetic improvement by lowering the car 20mm)

Loved, loved, LOVED the top adjustable Koni's on my Golf G60 and wouldn't hesitate to use them again if/when the time comes.

Me too g60 and the konis much loved. Wish I'd have played more with the g60 before selling

Mine was and aubergine Edition One and I had it for about 8 years and would still have it over my octy if it was more practical. Loved it. Even bought the number plate G6 TEE. :)

A couple of days in and now things have settled a bit , wow what a difference they make. It's a tad firmer than the standard dampers , but strangley more comfortable and compliant. I don't get the low speed constant patter anymore , now when up to speed can carry more speed through the corners. Also the faster you go the better it feels. For me they feel great , a lot more sporty ( if that means anything ). This combo of Eibach springs and Koni STR.T dampers is really good especially at the price. Although i had to wait a couple of months for the dampers from koni, they are well worth the wait. Can't say how they compare to the B12's of this world , but for me ..... . Now i'm wondering how much more improvement can a rear anit-roll bar makes. If it improves things as much as people say ....can't wait.

I also installed the eibach springs (stock dampers). Hardly noticeable stiffness difference, but oh my how the ride has changed. There's virtually zero body roll and also drops and bumps on the highway taken at high speed result in no "wobbling" anymore. I'm thoroughly impressed!

I'd upload some pictures but for some reason I see "you can upload up to Uploading is not allowed of files" :p
