  1. 100 years ago someone sat on a horse and cart saw a Model T Ford pull up and said something very similar.
  2. PS I’ve given you the truth about electric cars in that previous post, that is it šŸ˜€. The governments are just playing at it with what has been done so when Skegness is under water they can say ā€œwe tried but not enough people were interested.ā€
  3. That’s always going to be the case with technology. The batteries will improve like engines have. People still bought cars like Vauxhall Vivas in the 70’s and 20 years later the technology of vehicles was miles better. If your waiting for perfection it will be a long time coming.
  4. The OVO system is good, and I also got the OVO/vw group deal of 10,000 miles per year of EV charging for 3 years. Regarding the truth of electric cars - the truth is the government (whichever colour) don’t want mass take up of EVs, the tax hit would be absolutely enormous. It is being stifled by lack of infrastructure and high public charging costs . That is the truth. @Graham Butcher I accept that I’m lucky enough to fit into a niche that allows me to exploit what is available but it still amazes me that people who do way less mileage than me and rarely go further than 100 miles radius of their home (which could have a charger) are still happy to burn fuel and passively pay enormous sums of tax in fuel duty and vat.
  5. @Dieselgate I do apologise for my clumsy post, using your quote. I’ve dropped in and out of this thread and just saw it was the same old stuff being discussed . I’m using OVO charge anytime which for now (not much longer) is 7p per kWh. I didn’t analyse the peak rate cost because I was already on a fixed deal with OVO and that stays the same, the charge anytime is an add on to whatever tariff plan you are on and credits a month in arrears to bring the EV charge costs to 7p.
  6. Å koda Elroq 60. No issues getting 200 miles, in summer 250. I’ve only charged it to 100% a couple of times in the last 10,000 miles. 80% has been fine even in winter. This is what it is showing right now :
  7. I don’t run short local trips but generally operate within 200 miles of where I start. My minimum daily mileage is 65 miles round trip. If it lasts 10 years, which will be 200k miles then I will be satisfied, that is the plan and the lifespan I did all my cost calculations on.
  8. Just dropped back in here, same old nonsense. I’ve bought an EV with my own money. For the record I don’t have solar or batteries. The EV costs 2p per mile in ā€œfuel costsā€ (charging from home which is 95% of the time for me) compared to previous petrol and diesel costs of 15p per mile, on top of that maintenance costs are a fraction of petrol or diesel. Sorry guys I love cars and engines but you are clinging on to the past.
  9. That’s a shame. Mine has just clocked 10,000 miles absolutely no squeaks, knocks or rattles from anything.
  10. Samsung apparently have developed a battery that gives 500 mile range and charges in 9 minutes. Apologies if it has already been discussed somewhere earlier in the 454 pages. https://www.electronicdesign.com/technologies/power/article/55134766/electronic-design-samsung-sdis-long-life-solid-state-batteries-claimed-to-have-highest-energy-density
  11. Watch some of his his other stuff he does some great fault diagnosis of batteries, modules, chargers, ecu’s etc etc
  12. I haven’t watched them, I did watch TheMacMaster but I’ve got bored of him. Saw enough of Geoff on MacMaster to know I don’t want to watch him. I certainly don’t think it will be EV bashing as MacMaster is an EVangalist laughing all the way to his bank. I notice the EV carnage guy is also softening his stance. The fact is people are happily using electric cars with relatively little problems and those guys are slowly changing their perspective whilst trying to show they were right all along somehow.
  13. Forget those clowns Graham. Have a look at this guy, OGS Mechanics, doing some amazing repairs. If there is a truth about electric cars it is that there aren’t many people who know how and are qualified to repair them.
  14. I blame the dinosaurs
  15. If someone in Northern Ireland fills their internal combustion engine car with fuel in NI and then drives it into Eire and back they are paying fuel duty on every mile covered even in the other country. I don’t see too much of an issue if an EV is charged per mile annually even if abroad. Individually, if an owner does a lot of mileage in Europe (maybe have property there) they would have to weigh up using the uk EV in Europe against having a car registered in a European country. Someone touring Europe on a holiday would have to weigh up using their own car or hiring one in Europe. I know my total mileage for a year is around 22k miles that’s for everything, work, leisure, holidays and I’ve never given a second thought about fuel duty I just know it will cost x amount for fuel, y for maintenance, z for depreciation etc and the total is the cost of motoring. I don’t get the meltdown about this tax at all, just enjoy the next 3 years EV drivers. Edit : I did 2000 miles in Europe 5 years ago travelling to Switzerland and Italy on a holiday. 2000 miles at 3p a mile is Ā£60….
