  1. Interesting, the linked topic was TDI engine, so not sure if the solution of rubber grmoits carries across to the TSI engines? I have an irritating whirring, quite high pitched and quite quiet. Seems to be more obvious wen the engine is cold (although I may just tune it out after a while). It goes away if I turn to the right but of the wheel is even a little bit left of centre it starts. The car is quite quiet overall which makes this ever more of an irritant. Does anyone know if there is a TSI solution, or is my noise totally different?
  2. I ran a MK2 PD TDI SE manual for a few years, serviced as and when required, treated to super fuel every few tanks, and other than wear and tear items, I can't remember any major prolems, other than the saloon/hatch locking itself and it had to be stripped down and rebuilt. Garage charge me under £150 for the labour. It was OK for economy, kept up with traffic, had plenty of room but no heated seats, but it was bought to be a Taxi so I just wanted the extra legroom over a similar costing Octavia. Now, as my own provate transport, I have the mk3 Sportline with the 220 TSI engine. It is the 6 speed DSG. I bought it last July and have done 20k in it. It has averaged around 40mpg from memory and on runs, if you bimble along, will happily return high 40s and I have seen it in the 50s. You can also thrash it an dget low 30s, early 20s, but it is not really that kind of car! I think the MK2 was nicer to drive for primary and secondary ride etc, but I do like the android auto, the DSG box and better lights etc. I suspect, that if you buy one that has been looked after, it will carry on being decent reliable transport, if you are unlucky you might buy one that is on the cusp of requiring bushes, suspension refresh etc. Either can be reliable, comortable and anonymous transport.
  3. Interesting, I had noticed my previous Golf and the Superb were both bad for spilling on to the front window. Seems mad as my 1990 Honda Accord had a built in gutter to guide water up and over the roof.
  4. I thought regulations came in to say lightbulbs should be able to be changed in 5 minutes at the roadside, guess not. My facelft Focus was wheel arch liner out job. I was able to reach through the gap to do it, but it scraped my arm and it was just a halogen bulb so probably a lot simpler. My bulbs are probably 5 years old as the car is an 18 plate so I guess that will be a time consuming, or expensive job at some point.

  6. Just picked up a 2018 Superb today from main dealer and my connection drops almost immediately. Have faffed the settings and cleared cache so will give it another go but I also have a Samsung but a Flip Z3 so as my contract is almost up, I may try amd alternative make and see if that solves the problem. Worked fine with just BT connecting calls and music so not a huge hassle, but for the millisecond mirroring worked, it did look cool.
  7. Mid 80s, Lecht ski car park, one cold child skipping afternoon on the slopes due to being wet and frozen. Wonder of that will work with no ignition key. Hmm is it hot.... aaaaaaaaaargh, then couldn't admit it! Had a white and black mark for quite a while!
  8. Thank you! I had, in fact, already done a separates search based on your post above as tbh I had assumed buying all 3 together would be cheaper! Official Thule £350, cheapest kit I could find was £290. Buying separately £206. new feet and adaptor pack and once used bars. Happy with that, given I had just forked out for the set for the stolen Golf!
  9. Hi Petrolcan, I had a look but could only find quite blocky offerings with Skoda brandings. I pick up my 18 plate hatch later this week and will need to get new bars etc as my old set were Golf R estate sized which will not fit. Are there aero bars from Skoda as I am guying from a Skoda dealer and I was going to try for discount on accessories!
  10. Thanks people. Well in the end I went for a 220 Sportline hatch in business grey. It is just too tidy to ignore and 280s are either high miles or other end of the country or more money than I (my wife) want to spend. We have a wee Mini Cooper to razz along back roads but I suspect this will be just about perfect for me.
  11. Thanks @ColinD that is perfect. I think I am leaning more for subtlety after the R attracted the thieves. Got a test drive lined up on Saturday for an 18 plate 220 sportline with the canton and winter pack. I had an E class estate before the Golf and I rather liked a wafty barge. I had a MKII Superb with just the 140bhp diesel and it was nippy enough and handled surprisingly well for such a large car.
  12. In my defense the TT and Golf were stolen last week! I am test driving a Superb on Saturday though so fingers crossed I will be back in a VAG soon.
  13. On my Golf R and I think my TTS and both Super and Yeti which all had auto lights, I am sure when they are on the wee light with rays goes green on the actual switch? Not the easiest thing to see when driving ad I cannot check as I am currently VAGless.
  14. Afternoon all, looking to get back into a Skoda again and just debating which one. Had our Golf R and TTS nicked after a house break in to get the keys so I am thinking either an Octavia vRS estate, around 2018/19 DSG with heated seats or Superb with the 280 brake engine, fancied a Sport but seem to be rarer than hen's teeth so possibly the L&K model as either is a total sleeper. Has anyone got one, owned both? What are the pros and cons please? (apologies to admins if this is the wrong place as it is two models I wasn't sure where to pop it.)
