  1. I've just ordered Osram Xenarc D1s from Amazon for £72
  2. Excellent thanks chimaera, that's what I was hoping to hear and hopefully something I can manage to do myself
  3. My 2010 Elegance estate with bi xenons is pretty poor in the lighting department. The xenons do their little dance on start up, up, down, left and right. The cornering fogs work OK but throw of the dipped beam is poor. I can't see a bend in the unlit road some 20 yards ahead, unless of course main beams are on, luckily I know its there. The bulbs are about 11 years old, could that be the problem or is it the levelling sensor I've been reading about despite the startup dance working ok, or do they just need adjustment as per another thread. If the levelling sensor does need replacing is it easy to do, where is it, and is it a dealer only part and does it need coding with vcds.
  4. As promised here are some photos for you. There is an option in settings to turn on "Reverse Power Supply". On or off seems to make no difference to my setup. As you can see in the photo the parking sensor image comes on with the reverse camera. This can be turned on or off. I normally have it off but I turned it on just to let you know that the sensors work fine. At the moment I am using FCC Launcher from the Google Play store, there is a whole thread about it on xda developers. I have tried a few and I prefer this one at the moment. If there is anything else you need to know let me know and I will try to help.
  5. Happy to help. The unit I bought was a straight swap for the Columbus so it fitted straight into the existing surround. It came with a canbus already connected from Joying so all the steering wheel buttons, front and back sensors, heating controls, everything just worked. Apart from one thing that is which I'm sure you are aware of, that is the maxidot display between the dials doesn't display satnav. I only had to buy two things for everything to work. Firstly, my Columbus was a DAB version so I had to buy a fakra adaptor cable to connect my roof aerial to the unit. I already had a reverse camera fitted which needed an adaptor to work with the Joying. I bought both of these items from a UK company called Audiotechdirect. I'll take some pictures for you tomorrow in daylight
  6. I've had my Joying for about 18 months in my 2010 Superb and I've not had an issue with parking sensors, they work perfectly. I don't know where they get their power from. I am mostly happy with the unit but there are a couple of things that Joying can't or won't sort out. The first is that Google voice calling (or voice anything) doesn't work. It used to at least respond with a reply to my request to "call xxx" with "I'm sorry I can't do that yet" but now it doesn't do anything, just ignores me. Luckily though my phone picks up my request and it is transferred to the Joying so handsfree calling is possible. The other more worrying issue is that if I allow the Joying to sync my contacts with Google it wipes all of my contacts from Google and I have to restore them from a backup. Another issue I've just remembered. I can only control the volume from the thumb wheel on the steering controls. The problem is if I spin the wheel too quickly the volume goes to its maximum and the only way to fix it is to mute it or pull over turn off the engine, pull the key and restart the car. Also I can't adjust the volume up or down using the touch screen, (there are no buttons or knobs). It just seems to re-adjust the volume to a start up setting made in the units settings, if that makes sense. Despite all that I am happy with it, it's just like having a 10 inch (250mm) tablet in the dash. There are newer models and other makes so the problems I'm having may have been fixed. There is a lot of information on xda developers. This is a link to the unit with similar specifications to the one I have. https://forum.xda-developers.com/android-auto/android-head-units/joying-android-8-1-intel-airmont-eight-t3897206
  7. OK, I give in. What is VC. Its OK found it, virtual cockpit
  8. The bloke who fixed mine connected something to my battery (looked a bit like my Optimate battery charger but bigger) then plugged it into my compressor and said to me something like "if these two lights don't light up (or vice versa, I can't remember) then the compressor is knackered" I don't know if he was blinding me with science, easy to do, but all I know is with my new Sanden compressor I now have aircon. He did try to check the pressure sensor but he couldn't get it off, it was very tight and he was frightened of damaging the pipe that it was connected to. Before changing the compressor the system needed topping up to 525 (I think, according to the plate on the panel above the radiator). I had about 300 in the system. Doing this didn't help. He included a dye to check for leaks then.
  9. My bad also. With my lack of most things mechanical I assumed condenser, compressor, pump where all names for the same thing
  10. No need to feel any regrets, I've learnt something else here about my car.
  11. I don't know anything about that. All I know is my aircon wasn't working and it is now. This thread is the first time I've heard of the system having dessicator in it. I'll have to ring them back to see if it was put in although he did mention oil.
  12. Yes, regas included. He tried a regas first, discovered it wasn't working and tested the condenser, discovered it wasn't working so I was booked in a few days later to have a Sanden unit fitted. I don't know anything about a dryer.
  13. I went to Chill Out in Bretherton near Leyland about 4 weeks ago. Cost me £420 fitted to my 2010 2.0 diesel elegance estate
  14. Yes, same here. I just pulled the plug on the Bluetooth module without any issues. I'm sure there are errors showing up in VCDS though, I haven't checked recently
  15. I can only speak for my Joying unit but there is no code on installation. You can if you want set up a security code after installation like you can with all Android phones etc
  16. Mine now sorted. It turns out the compressor/pump was knackered and was the reason it was rattling. £420 fitted for a new one.
  17. I think I've got the same problem. Now I know what to do about it. I've been thinking of getting a full aircon service. I get the metallic rattle for a couple of seconds, stops for a second then does it again. This just continues until, like you say, I turn off the climate control.
  18. Nope, no sign of it anywhere. Yes I've got something like that (the extendable magnetic tool thingy) and I've been poking it around as best I can but no luck
  19. Hmmm, you've got me thinking now, I'll run out and check but I'm sure I heard it rattling somewhere deep inside the box section of the roof above the window
  20. Well done. That clip looks a lot more robust than I remember it. How I managed to lose that in the bodywork I will never know. You would think I was belting it with a lump hammer in my frustration. 😉😄
  21. Sorry but I honestly can't remember how I lost the clip, I just know it disappeared into the box section of the roof. Like you I was thinking it was some sort of cover or hinge and in my efforts to get it off I snapped the top half off, it came out but the metal clip, in the process, vanished into the hole now left, never to be seen again despite my efforts to fish it out so all I can say is be careful.
  22. Yes, but it's not just a cover. The inside part of the cover with the slots in, as per the photo of the cover on my dash, pushes into the clip that is missing from the rectangular hole in the metal which then makes the handle a tight fit
  23. A couple more pictures if they help
  24. I once removed one of these thinking it would help to thread some wires for my reverse camera. From what I can remember you have to remove the L shaped pieces of plastic that are covering (I think) a screw, or possibly they just push in, I'm not sure. This screws into a metal clip that is sprung into a square hole in the bodywork. The handle should then come off. Be careful though that you don't lose the clip into the bodywork. I did and can't find it so my grab handle is only attached on one side and is loose until I can source another clip, although I don't think I'll bother, I lost it about 2 years ago now. If needed I'll find a minute to get a picture. Ignore all of the above about screws. Here are some pictures. I think you will need to find something to hook the top of the L shaped part to pull it out of the metal clip, it is a tight fit. As you can maybe see I snapped mine getting it out. The same applies though about possibly losing the metal clip inside the bodywork, it should be fitted where the oblong hole is in the metalwork. Hope this all makes sense.
