  1. What a stupid system - You can advertise fraudulently, but a crime is only committed once the car is sold ??? - You can log fraud reports with Ebay, I have as well, however it's only a tickbox, and without a "real person" investigating it, It is meaningless.
  2. Needs butchvrs to report the fraud to the plod - www.actionfraud.police.uk - He is the one with the proof (as the previous owner) that the work could not have been done and the chap is claiming work has been done that has not.
  3. I wouldn't hold your breath about ebay doing anything about it.
  4. Thanks for the advice, main problem turned out to be the linkage dry and rusty in the engine bay. I was looking at the cable reset, and you can just see the mechanism without removing pipes. I squirted oil onto the mechanism, did a 150mile drive the next day, loads better but not perfect. Squirted loads of WD40 and oil, did a 100 mile drive and it's better again. Still a bit notchy, but I guess if the mechanism's been dry it could have stretched the cables. Bit peed off really, as it's just had its annual service, I would have thought they would grease this as part of the service. (Vw specialist)
  5. Been having a problem for a while now, but getting more pronounced. Basically when you change up or down to 3rd,4th,or 5th - sometimes (about 1 change in 20), the gearstick will not go into gear. It feels like it's blocked, and you have to put it into another gear, and back to make it work. The clutch seems ok, 1st, reverse and second all select fine. No strange noises from the box, and tried quick changing, changing at high revs (which would beat the synchro on a worn box) - all ok. Car has done 182k
  6. Think its a replacement engine from a 225bhp car (TT, Seat etc) - Skodas only got the "lower" 180bhp
  7. 182k - no problems whatsoever - Stage 1 and LPG - It does use a bit of oil and water between it's annual services (but it does 15k between services).
  8. really think the octavia should have an overdrive (or 6th) - On the motorway it drones along at 80 - revving higher than it needs to.
  9. Might not have the official capacity, but mine tows a 22ft long caravan weighing 1350kg without any problems - And it's stable at motorway towing speeds (unlike many cars I have owned previously)
  10. My guess would be an earthing fault, have a look at what lights are operating when you press the brake pedal and indicator.
  11. £320 for the insurance and £260 per year for the tax. Got to pay the insurance whatever car you have, and the tax is probably double a smaller diesel. say £100 a year more. Thats £2 a week more. Offset that by the fact they are cheap to buy, and cheap to run (don't go wrong very often) - I've worked out the running costs are far less than a modern diesel - with a car that's nice to drive.
  12. Thats a horrible job to do at the side of the road in this weather !!
  13. Mine had a habit of doing that last year, about once a month. It would stop, but you had to press the pedal very hard, so I assumed the servo was on the way out. It settled down and hasn't done it in over 12 months.
  14. Nice simple job, takes under an hour. Hardest part is removing the door trim. Did my passenger one a few weeks ago,.. http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/332928-faulty-electric-window/#entry4003061
  15. My vrs is a high mileage 180k, and I found I was constantly topping up with 5/30 oil. (No noticeable smoke). I switched to 10/40 and have been running that for the last 25k. Seems fine - (uses about 2 pints in 10k), and the local vw specialist who services my car said this was fine. (Would not run 20/50 - my 1969 bedford runs this stuff)
  16. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUMMER-TYRE-Goodride-SV308-205-45-R17-84V-with-MFS-/121484164676?pt=UK_Cars_Tyres_RL&fits=Tyre+Width%3A205|Aspect+Ratio%3A45|Diameter%3A17&hash=item1c49053e44 Got these on mine, the fronts have done 30k in 2 years, and still a bit left on them. Makes driving that bit more entertaining !
  17. Used to happen on older cars, as the engine always stops in the same couple of places, so the flywheel teeth wear. Not seen it on modern cars as the pre-engaged starter motors produce less wear, BUT it's still possible.
  18. Thanks for that, and the offer of a motor. Decided to get a new part, as the wires could be worn in the s/h unit. An hour later. It's not too bad a job
  19. I have noticed a few drips on the driveway recently. They have not been getting worse when the car is stood, however after driving it is leaving small deposits every time. The underside of the engine seems covered in oil. Are there any common problems with oil leakage that I should be looking at, or just ignore as its 9 years old. thanks
  20. this one ? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SKODA-OCTAVIA-96-1U2-1U5-FRONT-WINDOW-REGULATOR-ELECTRIC-LEFT-NEW-/180379963098?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item29ff7bceda
  21. My 2005 Vrs was making a funny noise when winding up the passenger window. It then stopped working altogether with the window half way up. I have stripped to door card to find a broken winder wire. (bodged the glass fully shut for know) Been having a look on ebay at regulator repair kits. Are all mk1 octavias the same ? Found this one, anyone know if it's suitable ? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SKODA-OCTAVIA-WINDOW-REGULATOR-REPAIR-KIT-FRONT-LEFT-/320643864453?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4aa7dd1785
  22. Either that, or disconnect the live wire that runs the self park, and just "manually park" them
