  1. Been to an independent tyre fitter to get a second opinion - I used to fit tyres to earn pocket money as a kid so I was reasonable confident about the tyre - the fitter agreed with me but we got the tyre off the rim & double checked - all OK> By the way Doleawg, we to sold a Discovery (in November) and replaced it and a Saab convertible with the Skoda a couple of weeks ago. Regarding tyre pressures both my fronts were at 30psi which is what Skoda recommends, looking at Audi sites though, they seem to use slightly higher pressures - (although some of the recommendations for 40 section tyres seemed low to me). Anyway I've decided to run the fronts at 35psi and vary the rears with load and see how it goes for a while. During daylight it's usually OK , if you can see you can dodge em, i got caught at night on an A road!! Huw
  2. Very slight damage to the wall - 1mm thick triangle about 20mm x 5mm. No bulge no apparent damage to cords etc. Need to find an honest tyre fitter to get an opinion on it by removing the tyre. I've put it on the rear until I can get someone to look at it.
  3. Hi Finding my feet, My superb Combi is an L&k and also has 225 45 18's I hit a pothole Friday night on the A48 (I'm in Cardiff too). I looks as if I got away with the tyre damage is minimal but it does worry me. Wheels look great though - be a pity to change them. Huw
  4. What are you looking for? I've recently bought some good gear from Superskoda, eBay and towequpe, all on line
  5. Seems no-one's answering! My experience is very limited, I've done 400 miles in my CR140 DSG 4x4 Combi. Most of the journeys have been urban/ city and have come out at about 34 which is a little better than my previous car an auto diesel Saab convertible. I'm optimistic my Skoda will eventually better the Saab. I would think a manual two wheel drive saloon, even with the PD engine would better or equal my car - and yours is nicely run in at 82000, mine's only done 6000. My wife's manual Focus, when new wouldn't pull in 6 th gear under about 70, now at 40000, it'll pull 6th at 50! Just waiting to get some miles on my car!
  6. My father worked in the motor trade all his life, mainly on BMC vehicles and Jaguars. I was desperate to follow his footsteps and he was desperate I didn't but he allowed me to drive from the age of ten, have my own banger at 13 and work part time for a second hand car dealership at 17. I probably drove nearly every car the dealer had, from Minis and Imps via tuned Cortinas to Jaguars (including an E type). The constant mantra of all the old guys was when you slow down to use the brakes as much as possible as brakes are cheaper to replace than gearboxes. This was during the era of fade prone drum brakes! I was also taught to block gear change which I did during my driving test (which I Passed :-) ). I have since passed the IAM test. I can't see block changing is an issue. You have a driving plan, accelerate at an appropriate rate and select an appropriate gear. In our Focus 2litre manual that might mean 1,2,3, and 6th as she does it comfortably. Going down, 6th to 3rd is a normal change for me. This approach works whether pressing on or going gently and has served me well on everything from Golf GTIs to big Volvos. The cars I've had with auto boxes almost use the same principle as they get into the gear they think most appropriate ASAP. Of course the biggest exception is our other car which has a DSG box, it goes up through the gears quickly -it might hold 3rd and the drop quickly through the others into 6th. Although I love the box it irritates me as it insists on dropping into second and first on the over run in traffic! Use block changing it's a art and more useful to you than heel and toeing which I'm sure we've all tried :-) Huw
  7. In this week's Sunday Times they reckoned the little Skoda was not just a good small car but one of the best cars (whatever size) you can buy
  8. Had one, got rid of it use PC as media centre - brill
  9. My L & K Combi seems OK for radio until I get into the shadow of a hill. As I listen mainly to BBC FM is more than adequate for me.
  10. We bought an Ipad two years ago after having some problems with my father in law's health in Portugal. Smart phones are a pain to book flights, email insurers and doctors. On return I researched notepads & we set out to buy one -and bought an iPad 2. I don't consider it a computer -I'm writing a book but even with a Bluetooth keyboard I won't use it. For shopping, BBC iplayer, forums & email it's brill. I have all my car handbooks and manuals on it and use it everyday. Huw PS the camera is pants IMO
  11. I was surprised to see a musician on this forum say he had the bass turned up & the treble turned down as it was the only way to get a good sound. As an audiophile most of my gear has no tone controls i.e. it is set flat & should sound the way the engineers intended. I must admit in my L & K I have reduced treble and increased bass - a first for me - but the system then sounds pretty good - my iPod is set flat on the equalizer - this setting seems OK for radio, CD, Sd et al.
  12. I've got a 140 DSG estate L & K, did 200+ miles in a greenline saloon (courtesy car) drove to get there not save fuel (average around 50+mph including a lot of a roads). The computer on the car showed 55mpg! I know it may be optimistic & I didn't brim it. It never seemed underpowered - only two of us & was a good drive
  13. Did ove 200 miles in the Greenline, I drove to get there not to post good mpg. Car computer is showing 55mpg! As its a courtesy car I'm not going to brim it. The thing I did miss was cruise control but it's certainly a lot of car. I also found the gear change indicator strange - it often suggested an up change which IMO left the car labouring -it was certainly vibrating. Hopefully back to my L & K estate today.
  14. You can the Freeview tuner is just that - like the one in your tele
  15. Just drove a courtesy Greenline 20 miles after dropping my CR140 DSG off for some warranty stuff. I was very pleasantly surprised, I may be off on a 200 mile mini break later - will probably use the Skoda in preference to wife's Focus CC3 to see how little I can make the trip cost :-)
  16. It's not major surgery is it - just a little Botox! I think the current model is inoffensive and this version is the very similar. I'm less worried that the 62 plate Combi I picked up Saturday will look outdated. As I got to the end of this post I went back to check it wasn't something posted on April 1st :-)
  17. I have a Superb L & K, the TV tuner provides me with DAB perfectly well - rear parking cameras - why do you need 'em?
  18. Buy Media Monkey, it'll convert to MP3 directly to the SD card -you have to have the full version though. I did a trial card for my L&k but as it has an iPod connection will probably never use it. Huw
  19. BT Infinity 38 Mbps download, 8 upload reliable and great service
  20. My Sony TV only has an optical feed for external sound - my Arcam solo does not have an optical input. I bought a digital to analogue convertors from Richer Sounds it works really well we even get quite a good effect from the TVs "surround sound" effect. Huw
  21. 119 Combi, 4x4DSG (140) L & K, in amethyst purple. Extras to normal spec, KESSY and iPod prep :-)
  22. Rear door strip - is this the type of thing? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SKODA-SUPERB-2-Estate-CHROME-Rear-Trim-Strip-Tailgate-Tuning-Styling-/140927096860?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item20cfe8d81c
  23. Hi Colin, Do you mean a bumper protector. I'm going to fit one, can't decide chrome, stainless or black. There's one here http://chromeauto.eu/en/373-skoda-superb-chrome-rear-bumper-protector-trim-cover-stainless-steel.html or here http://www.superskoda.com/Skoda/SUPERB-II/Superb-II-Combi-STAINLESS-STEEL--rear-bumper-protective-panel-KI-R. If you are google it and there are loads. Huw
  24. Still waiting for DVLA to transfer plate so I can collect my estate, 4x4 DSG L & K - time goes slow!! Will my iPod plug in? Do I need a VAG lead? If so where does it plug in?
  25. I'm just over the bridge in Cardiff and I've been looking for a while - nationwide, I suspect i may have been offered the brown one through my local dealer. In the end I had a similar choice of L & Ks but in my case the alternatives were amethyst purple, brown or black (& SWMBO was having a big input). Amethyst purple was our (!) choice. I must admit I would have been OK with brown, but I do like the purple - black however is only for hearses in my opinion. There has been a lot on here about the L & K brown interior which people appear to love or hate - I love - it gives an aura of higher quality than black (IMO) although I like Onyx - a colour which has proved serviceable despite grand kids in our Focus convertible. As always you pays your money and takes your choice. huw
