So inspection at 15,000 miles or change at 10,000 miles? Don't think i'd like to take the risk of leaving it that long.

Seen various statements saying 5 years and some 10 years. Skoda want to make their minds up

This has probably been asked numerous times but what is the service interval for the timing belt on the 1,5 engine. Seems to be a lot of conflicting info. Thanks

Thanks mate. So i could look for a 17'' wheel which would fit the wheel well. Good to know , Thanks again.
  5. What should i be looking for in a spare wheel. Obviously 5 stud but not sure about the holes spacing. Not sure what will fit. Any Info info? The car is fitted with 18'' wheels.. Thanks.

  7. Normal RH thread (wind back clockwise), Should not need any adjustment to handbrake but easy to do if it needs it.
  8. Depends on the price, Ive got the BKD engine in mine, Mk 2 2005 and has done 126000, They seem to be very good engines, . Check when the timing belt / waterpump was last done, And check if it has any service history, Regular oil changes with a good quality oil is very important on these. Check for any nasty noises when engine is running.. And make sure the turbo is ok, They get sooted up and cause overboost problems, Putting the car into limp mode....
  9. My 2005 Octavia chucks out approx 150g/km, Or so the government says,,, Its far more efficient on Diesel than a lot of smaller engined petrol/diesel cars out there, Im Getting about 55 to 60 mpg just kicking about, So i buy less fuel, Hence less tax on fuel. Im paying £160 a year (I think) road tax. My sister has just bought a 2020 Peugeot, (Dont laugh) I think its a 1.0, Petrol, It produced less CO2 , It's less fuel efficent than my oil burning Octavia but shes paying £150 road tax and spending more on pertol, So more fuel tax,, It just seem mad.
  10. Hi, Got time on my hands with being furloughed still,, I thought id have a look at what cars are for sale on Autotrader. Now i might be behind with recent changes but ive noticed that nearly everything now is £150 a year road tax, Gone are the £0. £20 and £30 days, Reading into it further, Seems that cars registered after 2017 are a minimun of the £150 tax no matter if its a 2.2 TDI or a tiny 1,0 petrol, What happened to the sweetener of cheap tax to get the public into smaller more efficient cars,,, Why is this government such greedy bas*ards ..But i suppose they had to claw that money back somehow, They were not going to give up such a lucrative income scam like that. We pay all that money to have the privilege of driving on some of the worst maintained roads in Europe...I can only think that our nuclear deterent probably needs updating so the money has to come from somewhere,, Just a pity its always the motorist piggy bank they raid.. So we just continue to drive our chunky engined Petrol and Diesel cars, Chucking £150 in the governments direction every year until in the not too distant future they try to force us into electric cars with the promise of zero road tax. And when everyone is driving electric cars they will remove the incentive of zero tax and start screwing us for road tax again...Sorry about the rant
  11. Thanks for all the advice, I think ill keep the car for the time being, Makes sense what you have been saying. It's still returning pretty good MPG, Better than any petrol car I've owned. Thanks again......Graeme.
  12. Admittedly my car has been good, Not so when i first bought it 8 years ago, was plagued by all sorts, Mainly ABS sensors and Front brakes, But its been reasonably fine since, Body works ok but had some rust issues which I'm trying to keep on top of but eventually I'm going to lose that battle.. It's due the cambelt change again in September and i don't want to be spending £500 again when that could go towards another car,, Road tax issue is mine keeps increasing every year, As with all of us with older cars, A newer car with £20 road tax stays at that price, At least i think it does. Must admit, If i do move on to another car I'm gonna miss this one, Which is i think why i keep going back to looking at Skoda's as apposed to Ford, Suzuki, Audi etc.
  13. Its on 125000 miles now, Not a lot i know but Turbos starting to make itself heard, Not too bad but starting to be a little noisy, Was thinking of Going back to petrol but road tax is higher on them, some dubious reviews about some of the engines in the petrol range. The one is was looking at is 2.0 TDI CR, low(ish) miles. £20 a year road tax, 4 years old, Just the DPF puts me off a bit, Obviously mine doesn't have it.. It's has been a very good car and still is but if the turbo went or clutch / DMF then its not economical to repair.
  14. Thanks mate, Will it tell me if the update has been done or just that the car is one of them affected?
  15. Well, Its gonna be time to let the octy estate go soon as its getting on a bit, Been looking at other cars, Suzuki Vitara, Ford Focus (dunno if i could live with the badge though ) Fabia, Audi, But always seem to come back to looking up Octavia TDI'S.. My question is, With what's gone on with the emissions scandal, If i was to by another Octavia TDI, Is there anyway of finding out if its had the dreaded software update because I'm hoping to steer clear of those cars, And I'm thinking where ever i buy a car, They may be reluctant to tell me if it's been done . Thanks..
  16. I think they use a squeezy silicone sealant now for the gasket, Once its all put back together remember to leave it overnight for the liquid gasket to cure then fill with oil etc.
  17. Just fitted a replacement reverse sensor couple of days ago, Put it in and everything was ok, The system was working again, Yesterday took the car out and reverse sensors worked fine then came the long beep indicating they were off again. Got back home and listened for the little clicks from each sensor, Nothing from any of them. Scanned the car today and here is the VCDS results, Can anyone tell me what's gone wrong? 18. Come to mention it, No i haven't seen an exhaust place for years, Makes sense a replacement system would come in sections for easy fitting, It's over 15 years old now and done 125,000 miles and still looks decent, It's the original VW stamped system , They were made to last.
  19. Just been under the back end of the car fitting a replacement reverse sensor, Had a look underneath at the exhaust system, Just checking everything, seems ok, Noticed from the back box to nearly the front its a complete pipe, No joints.. Looks like when the car was built the exhaust was put on first then the complete rear suspension over it. Thought the back box would have been joined to middle section by means of a bolted flange,, Doesn't look like its a DIY job, Unless you happen to have welding and cutting gear at your disposal.. Anyone ever done this before??
  20. Same as mine, One sensor failed so knocks all of them off. Took mine out to identify it so i order the correct one. Ebay, Prices vary, Got it for £13, But you can genuine ones from dealer a lot more expensive though.
  21. Took the plunge and bought it, Got it for £12.50 so cannot grumble, Thanks everyone.
  22. Will that one be ok with the 'Q' prefix, Mines an 'F' ?
  23. Ive always switched earth in the cars ive had in the past when putting a switch in line for something,, Just that when plugging the aerial in the back of unit it uses that as an earth.
  24. Changed the standard stream HU a while back for the Bolero, Didn't change the can bus (too much faff), Is there anything i can do apart from keep pulling the radio fuse so i don't end up with a flat battery. Like i say don't want to replace the can bus because of sourcing a correct one and cost. Already tried switching the earth wire to the radio which doesn't work...Thanks..
  25. I thought it was a bit of a no no concerning the crankcase vent, That will stay where it is then ... Had the intake manifold off a while back and it wasn't a nice sight, thick oily deposits caked the whole of the inside which is from the EGR but that can't be doing the engine any good.....
