  1. I had my aerial removed to apply the gloss black roof wrap on my Black Edition (no sunroof). The dealer arranged fitting by a local guy prior to collection. I am reasonably happy with the result although the wrap is not as scratch resistant as I thought. I agree with redders that you want a top job. It's not the mod to scrimp on. I paid £200.

If you struggling with marks on the vinyl, try using a heat gun over the affected areas, you should see some improvement in both color and scratch reduction

  2. Obviously not trying to put anyone off, but I know my standard of work and I've been wrapping prestige cars for along time, but i also know you tend to get what you pay for, and I've seen some absolute nasty examples of work, if it's done right, it will last as long as the paint. Just check what your getting for £50

  3. That's a good price

Just make sure there using a good quality, cast vinyl and it will be good for anywhere between 3-5 years. The cheaper non branded vinyls you find on ebay suffer from colour loss and oxidation, shrinkage, and can cause a lot of damage when you come to remove the wrap.

I belive I'm right in saying, like the mk2, the hatch does not have any roof gutters, ask how they will be trimming the vinyl into the swage lines on your roof, most companies will use a knifeless tape system, some tend to use the older hand layed cut tape method, but both will leave the paint Untouched by the knife.

If there not using these methods then there's a good chance they will cut on the car and thus damage the paint and break the lacquer, this can obviously lead to rust in the long run but less obviously can lead to lacquer peel and lacquer damage when removed if the paint has be cut into, which can lead to costly paint repairs.

And A couple last things to check when you collect you car are for damage to the windscreen rubber, this can quite easily occur when working the vinyl behind it, it can get cut or ripped and can lead to water ingress around the screen, and check for knife marks and cut mark on opening panels, such as the boot lid edge where they will cut the vinyl, and along the swage lines in the roof.

  4. The thing is, even if the part you nee wrapping is only 300mm long, they will still have to order 1m of material in, which they will get surcharged for as its a small order plus the postage, your looking at £50 alone for that, add in the time it takes to clean, prep, fit and finish, call it 2 hours, £150 doesn't seem to look that bad? £150 is what id be asking in 3m. Jon (vehicle wrapper 8 yrs)
