  1. 1 Castor will give more camber when turning but it will push the wheel forward in the arch. 2 Personally I'd stay away from urethane. On youtube if you look up track-hack he outlines the options for the gti. The rs3 front mount is solid rubber without the void, a direct swap, cheap and oe quality. You can also, I believe, use audi adjustable aluminium control arms. I have a pair but I might be buying another superb so I'll install them once I know what I'm doing. For that matter there's also the alloy crossmember but I don't think there's a performance gain except for a little weight loss. 3. I don't think the strut brace would do much. It basically runs along the firewall. You aren't going to stretch or compress the firewall. 4. The Australian sportline superb doesn't get the variable rack. The uk gets the sportline plus. So a faster rack is either a steering quickener or a retrofitted variable rack if possible in aus. I was quoted $2770 from a dealer for the rack component. I bought a passat part locally for $300 from a breaker. But I'll need parameters loaded to see if it works. Software alone will not quicken the Australian rack. The hot golf versions get variable rack. Anyway something to think about. And decent tyres and alignment is always a good start.
  2. Does your have half the grille closed off? I like the honeycomb, but was wondering why the engineers have done that? I assume they have worked out thats all the opening needed and any extra causes drag. Without measuring I 'd say there's at least 0.5m2 which would flow plenty.
  3. You're over thinking it. You have to ask is it an upgrade. The factory setup works well. Will the dba stop you shorter in a one off braking event? Probably not. You'll probably stop faster with a driving course. If the hazards aren't activating and the seat belt isn't pulling you into the seat it means you can push harder.
  4. Thanks langers. Out of interest is there a way to identify the part for a particular vehicle from a VIN without access to a dealers parts software? The best I can see is going onto one of the webpages and drilling down to a parts list but there are occasions where there are two different parts for that year & model.
  5. I think its something like this but I haven't seen one appart. There are other designs as well.
  6. Hmm I can see in the Ross-tech wiki for the audi they discuss the control module needs to have the parameters set by SVM which is a dealer job and not VCDS. Assuming I could source a progressive rack of the correct length. Could I source a golf r control module which is already programmed, a loom (?) and then code the progressive rack on with vcds? http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Audi_A5_(8T)_Active_Steering
  7. Thank you. I'll check that PR code out. Servotronic is speed-related variable steering assist Progressive (VW) and Dynamic (Audi) is a variable ratio rack with variable steering assist. The Progressive rack is 2.1 turns lock to lock whereas the Servotronic is 2.8 turns lock to lock. The Progressive is fitted to the Golf R & GTI, Passat R line (?) and RS3 and others.
  8. Would anyone know of a mk3 superb with progressive / dynamic steering? Mine has servotronic which is just a speed sensitive assist. Would anyone know of a retrofit that was done?
  9. Kopacek sale is on. What are getting?
  10. Yup, water pump and thermostat housing. Simple fix under warranty. A bit different to one and half months to look at it.
  11. But they should be deducting the EU VAT from their price and UK charges UK VAT on entry. So Its really only shipping and VAT on Shipping + 13 GBP (what a rip off).
  12. Thanks. I've got it booked into Warrens next week.
  13. "Exactly what youre trying to do is displace people, because you have diagnosed your problem already you are expecting to jump the queue" Explain to me how I'm jumping the queue?
  14. Hmmm maybe. He's a licenced mechanic. If it was a court issue he would be an expert witness. No ifs or buts. I'll write it again, It doesn't take 10 minutes to put the car on a hoist, pull the belly pan off and shine the light on the water pump. Its leaking. Could I also have a cylinder head issue. Possible ... but there is no evidence of oil contamination and over half a litre of coolant would leave a visible trace in the oil. What do you think? All the other things you mentioned don't come into it. They aren't going to repair it there and then even when I go mid October. Its a diagnosis. It will be at least late November before its repaired. And the leak is only going to accelerate. What if you had a customer and they had a problem with your work. Would you say sorry, I can't do a diagnosis for a month and a half? Yes, you might not have screwed it up but I guarantee you if your wrong that customer will not be coming back in the future if they can help it. The dealer is the customer facing operation of the Skoda business model. And they aren't working for free. Fixing warranty claims is part of being a Skoda dealer. You know, looking after Skoda customers. What you're suggesting is kind of like a manufacturing company saying we don't charge for quality on the invoice so we shouldn't be spending time and effort on quality and system improvement. That's just dumb. With regard to this - "so do they just fit all the 10 minute jobs in that day and forget the customers that booked weeks ago?" I'm not displacing anyone. They are taking bookings for services next week as I said in the first post. So they have mechanics available that are unallocated to jobs. If the diagnosis takes 10 minutes or 5 hours that's not going to change come mid October. And I'm the customer. Its not up to me to manage their roster. I'm actually helping them by telling them what's happened and what evidence has been collected todate. if they choose not to use that information that's up to them. I'm not saying don't diagnose. I'm querying the month and a half to look at it let alone fix it.
