How to improve steering feel
1 Castor will give more camber when turning but it will push the wheel forward in the arch. 2 Personally I'd stay away from urethane. On youtube if you look up track-hack he outlines the options for the gti. The rs3 front mount is solid rubber without the void, a direct swap, cheap and oe quality. You can also, I believe, use audi adjustable aluminium control arms. I have a pair but I might be buying another superb so I'll install them once I know what I'm doing. For that matter there's also the alloy crossmember but I don't think there's a performance gain except for a little weight loss. 3. I don't think the strut brace would do much. It basically runs along the firewall. You aren't going to stretch or compress the firewall. 4. The Australian sportline superb doesn't get the variable rack. The uk gets the sportline plus. So a faster rack is either a steering quickener or a retrofitted variable rack if possible in aus. I was quoted $2770 from a dealer for the rack component. I bought a passat part locally for $300 from a breaker. But I'll need parameters loaded to see if it works. Software alone will not quicken the Australian rack. The hot golf versions get variable rack. Anyway something to think about. And decent tyres and alignment is always a good start.

Honey combe grille
Does your have half the grille closed off? I like the honeycomb, but was wondering why the engineers have done that? I assume they have worked out thats all the opening needed and any extra causes drag. Without measuring I 'd say there's at least 0.5m2 which would flow plenty.

Need new front brakes/pads Question?
You're over thinking it. You have to ask is it an upgrade. The factory setup works well. Will the dba stop you shorter in a one off braking event? Probably not. You'll probably stop faster with a driving course. If the hazards aren't activating and the seat belt isn't pulling you into the seat it means you can push harder.

Progressive / Dynamic steering
Thanks langers. Out of interest is there a way to identify the part for a particular vehicle from a VIN without access to a dealers parts software? The best I can see is going onto one of the webpages and drilling down to a parts list but there are occasions where there are two different parts for that year & model.

Progressive / Dynamic steering
Hmm I can see in the Ross-tech wiki for the audi they discuss the control module needs to have the parameters set by SVM which is a dealer job and not VCDS. Assuming I could source a progressive rack of the correct length. Could I source a golf r control module which is already programmed, a loom (?) and then code the progressive rack on with vcds? http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Audi_A5_(8T)_Active_Steering

Progressive / Dynamic steering
Thank you. I'll check that PR code out. Servotronic is speed-related variable steering assist Progressive (VW) and Dynamic (Audi) is a variable ratio rack with variable steering assist. The Progressive rack is 2.1 turns lock to lock whereas the Servotronic is 2.8 turns lock to lock. The Progressive is fitted to the Golf R & GTI, Passat R line (?) and RS3 and others.

Progressive / Dynamic steering
Would anyone know of a mk3 superb with progressive / dynamic steering? Mine has servotronic which is just a speed sensitive assist. Would anyone know of a retrofit that was done?

"Exactly what youre trying to do is displace people, because you have diagnosed your problem already you are expecting to jump the queue" Explain to me how I'm jumping the queue?

Hmmm maybe. He's a licenced mechanic. If it was a court issue he would be an expert witness. No ifs or buts. I'll write it again, It doesn't take 10 minutes to put the car on a hoist, pull the belly pan off and shine the light on the water pump. Its leaking. Could I also have a cylinder head issue. Possible ... but there is no evidence of oil contamination and over half a litre of coolant would leave a visible trace in the oil. What do you think? All the other things you mentioned don't come into it. They aren't going to repair it there and then even when I go mid October. Its a diagnosis. It will be at least late November before its repaired. And the leak is only going to accelerate. What if you had a customer and they had a problem with your work. Would you say sorry, I can't do a diagnosis for a month and a half? Yes, you might not have screwed it up but I guarantee you if your wrong that customer will not be coming back in the future if they can help it. The dealer is the customer facing operation of the Skoda business model. And they aren't working for free. Fixing warranty claims is part of being a Skoda dealer. You know, looking after Skoda customers. What you're suggesting is kind of like a manufacturing company saying we don't charge for quality on the invoice so we shouldn't be spending time and effort on quality and system improvement. That's just dumb. With regard to this - "so do they just fit all the 10 minute jobs in that day and forget the customers that booked weeks ago?" I'm not displacing anyone. They are taking bookings for services next week as I said in the first post. So they have mechanics available that are unallocated to jobs. If the diagnosis takes 10 minutes or 5 hours that's not going to change come mid October. And I'm the customer. Its not up to me to manage their roster. I'm actually helping them by telling them what's happened and what evidence has been collected todate. if they choose not to use that information that's up to them. I'm not saying don't diagnose. I'm querying the month and a half to look at it let alone fix it.

They don't have to take my word for it. It is stated on the report he made as part of the invoice. His licence number is on the document. But thats not really the point. It doesn't take 10 minutes to put the car on a hoist, take the belly pan off and shine a light on the pump. I find it problematic that the Skoda dealer will take a booking next week for a service but will not diagnose a warranty issue for 7 weeks let alone fix it.

Warranty - Sydney AUS
I have a leaking water pump. I had the pleasure of calling the local Skoda dealer to book the car in and despite a qualified mechanic stating that it had a water pump leak they have to diagnose it. The first available diagnosis time slot is mid October. I asked if they were taking bookings for services and she replied "yes but this is a diagnosis not a service". Does anyone have any good experiences with Skoda dealers in Sydney? Thanks

New Tyre Tread Depth - How do you find out when ordering tyres online?
If you go to tyrerack.com and choose the tyre then specifications it will give you the tread depth. You just need to convert from retards to millimetres.

The JB4 thread
My first effort of 5.12s was with an internet map 6 and when I looked at the logs it had no advance and a big gap between targeted boost and actual boost. I then went back to the standard map 3 which is a +6 psi for 98 octane. That map showed good advance and meeting boost targets. It produced more boost than the aggressive map even though the targets were lower. So tonight I used map 3. 0 - 100 4.75 seconds (Launch control, Average 235 tyres, 1/3 tank 98, 13c - An invalid dragy result due to a 1.18% incline) I also did a few runs logging so I'll have to check how it was performing log wise.

How to close boot without killing dog?
Obedience training. You need to teach your dog to sit and stay. The dog should know the basics. Heel, sit, drop, stay, come and return to the heel position plus fetch and be able to do it both on lead and off lead.

Does the Sportline have stiffer suspension?
And for what it's worth, in relation to the original question, ride height has nothing to do with spring stiffness. A spring can give a lower ride height and be softer. Which is why the tuning market is BS. The never specify stiffness. They do come in a variety of colours.
-
Does the Sportline have stiffer suspension?
No it's 690. I thought your lowered was 690mm as I understand the sports line is lower than standard. https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/501710-maximum-spacer-size-for-206-4x4-that-does-not-foul-guards/?tab=comments#comment-5632666

Does the Sportline have stiffer suspension?
I measured my car against yours in another thread. The distance from the road to wheel arch was the same at the front. So a Sportsline with selectable dampening is the same ride height as your car with the lower springs.
