  1. Trying to track down the DSP upgrades for the MFD1 at the minute - I've found there were two amps used, a nokia one and a harmon & kardon one - I'm trying to source the latter along with the wiring loom for it. I had thought it needed to come from a mk3 mk4 golf as it was in those, but I've found it's also closer to home in the MK1 superbs! Just need to find someone breaking one now who's willing to sell the wiring loom and amp :D, then I need another SE to be written off so I can buy the CD changer loom for under the passenger seat (shouldn't be too difficult considering how many keep ending up on their roof on the facebook groups...) Replaced the thermostat & housing, turns out that didn't solve the coolant leak so I've temporarily fluid sealed it to keep her on the road, and I've ordered the next point of failure pipework which sits on the RHS of the engine near the air box, new sump plugs coming, service kit and a rear brake caliper from someone local - because that's decided to gush fluid too... On the plus side, insurance market value on these is like 2-2.5k at the minute - yay value!
  2. Hi all, just wondering if anyone's got the part number for the wiring loom going from the MFD1 to the DSP amplifier? Looking into retrofitting one into a Fabia VRS with an MFD1 unit, I've found the amplifier part numbers, but I can't find the wiring loom one - and I can't see it on Kufatec's website either. Do these come up for sale now and again? Aaron
  3. Yeah but I can't get to it, Gonna have take the air box off to put my camera there and check,
  4. So I ragged it (see what i did there?), there's a pink colouring on that side running onto the gearbox so it's definitely leaking from the RHS of the engine. Just trying get hold of the workshop manual to see if there's a coolant junction somewhere near there.
  5. I'm trying to get hold of the workshop manuals so i can see if there's a coolant pipe running on that side of the engine, when i go out to the car later this afternoon I'll see if it's still wet and get a sample to see if it's pink.
  6. I was thinking of doing that but we've found a wet area. If you stand facing the car, On the right hand side between the block and air box there's fluid there were unsure if it's a pipe or something as I can't find my Haynes to check what's there and the workshop manuals on Facebook don't open properly on my phone all the images are missing
  7. So. Cleaned off the expansion tank and will see if it spits again, as it may be doing so. What's on the rhs of the engine (as you look from the front of the car) that could be a point of leaking? If you put your hand there you can feel fluid and its in the right location to be dropping down the box and onto the floor!
  8. Uhm, nope! I'm definitely leaking from somewhere or somethings blowing what it thinks is excess coolant out because some part of the system is blocked - I've used nearly a litre of coolant in just over a week. Is it worth draining the coolant out again then removing the lower rad hose and putting a hose into the expansion tank to see if there's some deposit in there somewhere that will run out?
  9. Thermostat's been changed yeah along with it's housing and o ring - it was never really faulty it was just a suspected leak area so I did that first, the temperature gets to 90 and doesn't go any higher no, i did notice when i replaced it all, it says to wait for the fans to kick in and out a few times - I've never heard the rad fans kick in, i assumed because the ambient temperature wasn't high enough to heat soak. I said flap because I'd been talking about the heater position flap in the same day haha, my bad. the heaters tend to have two functions, hot, cold, nothing inbetween, all fan speeds work fine.
  10. Checked again this afternoon, quickly removed cap when cold, engine not running, no pressure. So based on what sep said I've a stuck flap or blockage, what now! Can a flap be picked up by doing a vcds sweep to open and close the flap? I've scanned for codes using an obd reader and there's nothing there. When I checked it this afternoon it'd used a bit of coolant again, so I topped up again.
  11. Nope, but i can tomorrow ! You thinking it could be pressurising over time when left?
  12. Okay, gotcha - so the caps fine as is. Touch wood, no alarms again this morning, i'll check the level again this afternoon and if okay i'll park it on a slope tonight as that's been the only difference in terms of it leaking or not. There was definitely no hissing when removing the cap when the engine was cold, and I've just replaced the thermostat housing, thermostat and O-ring, so it's not the stat right? Was a genuine part btw.
  13. That's not where I meant o ring wise, I thought there may be something on the outer race, I'll take a pic tomorrow. Good to know it shouldn't be the tank then unless it's cracked. Will update more tomorrow when it's light
  14. Yay! So no alarm on the way home. If its all good by tomorrow afternoon then my thinking is its expansion tank, the reason being I keep parking it on the flat and I think it's leaking from the join between the two halves of the sphere, so.. If its okay tomorrow then tomorrow night I'll park it as I normally do, nose first down the drive on a downward facing slope, if it leaks and the alarm goes off again then presumably that proves its the tank seal?
  15. I don't want to throw the PD150 bolts at it, if it is that, because it's just a temporary fix
  16. FML There a way of confirming? My luck isn't it that I get the car with the HG going, other people get em mapped and nothing - i drive like miss daisy and I'm looking at a new HG LOL
  17. is that through too much volume in the system or some kind of blockage? I topped it up yesterday and it was slightly over max, but as yesterday morning I'd lost most of the expansion bottle in about a mile (unclear on whether it leaked out or was just another air lock) I thought i'd go slightly over and expect it to drop on the way back.
  18. You just had to ruin my morning didn't you LOL It felt wet on the left hand side when i put my hand around where the two halves clip together, so i was thinking a faulty clip or seal where the tanks sealed together? Touch wood this morning it's not lost any more, well the light didn't come on anyway - ill try it again this afternoon, if it's still OK and the levels not moving then presumably I'm looking at just a new expansion tank, there's no leaking from the block that I can see. I'd get it pressure tested, but the other threads I've read on here said in some cases you can pass pressure test and it still leak. Just weird that the wiring loom going into the vacuum box that runs around the expansion tank was also wet, and a small amount looked like it was damp on the wing, not a lot but then again it'd be running down the wing and onto the engine undertray anyway!
  19. Got another 5L just to be on the safe side, it had dropped a bit earlier but not much, interestingly i took it to the town centre down an a road for 15 mile or so, didn't lose pretty much anything but I noticed some trickle down the inner wing so I'm thinking expansion tank is to blame here!
  20. Well that's good to know, as I haven't experienced that yet haha. I've got a 2L bottle in the car, as I've used 5L to fill the system (I'm sure the workshop manual said it was a 6.2L system, but i can't seem to open the PDF fully on this computer) so hopefully it's just that. May get another 5L bottle tonight just to be on the safe side!
  21. Here's hoping, if it goes down again I'm at a bit of a loss. Usual suspect would be the rad wouldn't it, or the heater matrix. I'll update later on to see if it needs topping up on the way home or not.
  22. Right so I've replaced this, and I assumed I'd get a bit of loss through air locks in the system, so I ran it yesterday at fast idle then whacked the heaters on hot and it wen't down a bit - topped it up, seemed to hold it's level fine with no obvious leaks underneath. This was running for about 20 minutes at working temperature. Came to drive it again this morning and I got a mile down the road and BEEEEEEEP - coolant alarm, checked the expansion - was under minimum - is this just because of something settling when the engines cooled down? i.e. it sits at max at 90 deg but lower when cool - admittedly that's a little low even for me. I've topped it up again and it's gotten me to work (about 12 miles away), I'll check the levels later on when i finish work and see if it's dropped again - if it has then the thermostat housing replacement may not have been the leak point It shouldn't be the rad, as that's not original to the car, was replaced not long after having the car in 2014, they do last longer than that right LOL Lets hope it's just a final bit of air lock ...
