  1. At the moment my "plan" involves either a sheet of thin metal or a sheet of wall cladding plastic, silicone and rivets. But that is a bridge to cross when we get there I think. Best plan might be a trip to the scrapies with some cutting tools or politely ask the guy with the Stihl saw to cut a chunk out of an Octavia there. Then it'll be the right shape if nothing else. I caught the scrap van going up the road today as well so the old sump went on its final journey.
  2. Sorry for the double post here, but I thought since it's a new page I'd post a list of things to do to/with the car: New tyres Another set of brake pads after Croft (probably) Custom budget air intake (could be interesting) New suspension and fit poly bushes to wishbones (will probably need all new bolts and just cut out the old ones) Hopefully sort something out with the camber at the same time Re-spray Stickers! Insure it properly (In September when the Monte is up for renewal) And I keep thinking that dash-bard is too heavy but I don't want to mess with air-bags. I like my passengers to stay alive you see. (I do care, honest) Edit: That sun-roof is going to, I'm sick of it to be honest and I've never used it so it might as well go.
  3. By any chance do you mean "more ****" when you say that?
  4. Couple of little up-dates, various vessels of red paint opened and used: Bits I brushed using the paint used on the break calipers (same paint I also used on the Montes calipers and grill) I do have stickers for this but they can wait until the ever postponed re-spray... Only temporary until I get a C and an R off an old Octy and Superb: And lastly, using spray instead of the tin I painted the spoiler in the bedroom/spray booth. This is the same red I plan on using when I paint the car, I bought two test cans and did a bit on the drivers door if you remember, this is what was left in those cans:
  5. "Raising the temperature of exhaust gases will mean that emissions of oxides of nitrogen (NOx) will be increased. " So that's that one down the drain then.
  6. Have you done the seats yet? They're held onto the runners by two bolts under the front of the seat, take them nuts off then remove the plastic runners from behind the seats by taking the little plastic bits off, undoing the screws and removing the runner covers. Then slide the seat off of the bolts and slide back off the rails. The air-bag cable will still be in the bottom of the seat but you can move the seat around a bit without un-plugging depending on what you're doing.
  7. Just to update, the spare is still available if anyone wants it.
  8. Don't do what I did and get a new lock from a scrap-yard without testing it. I did that "while I was there" and after taking out the "new" one, taking mine out, putting the new one in and putting everything back together, window regulator and handle ect it still didn't work and the door handle needed to be pulled hard to open so I decided to change it back. Window regulator back out, lock barrel out and locks changed over all back together with old lock and now outside handle wouldn't open at all. Had a search on here after Croft and found that it was the cable that needed adjusting in the end of the handle as I hadn't seated it right. So lock barrel out again and cable adjusted now it works. Still have to unlock it from the inside but oh well.
  9. Also new landfills, quarries, mines ect. Basically anything that digs will create an excess of top-soil.
  10. I'm toying with the idea of something with the Monte Carlo badge on, hmm.
  11. Unless the back of the fridge is outside you're only going to make things worse because the back gets warm as it takes the heat from inside and puts it outside. Then there's the heat caused by the friction of the motor. You should have known better.
  12. Probably best off just staying here to be honest. So similar to the Octavia someone is bound to know.
  13. Another angle for this is something like where I'm at. I have my standard Fabia Monte Carlo insured in its own policy, but I also have the Octy which is pretty much standard but stripped out, with the aim to lower it and do various other things. At the minute I'm sticking it on Tempcover for a couple of days at a time to avoid a £1000+ premium but at just under £100 per couple of days it will soon work out at little to no difference if not more and I can't drive it on any other days. I need to make some phone calls at some point I think.
  14. Well he came in with me for my first two laps after doing the sump before we were red flagged because of that break-down then wouldn't come back in with me again He went in a few times with one-armed John though in the 50 BHP Evo.
  15. He'll be coming in his car I expect, and spectating/helping in the pits. He isn't going out on track as he said it didn't do his back any good, which he didn't expect before the day.
  16. It's not that I'm ignoring you Phill, I just don't have any money Hence buying the sh1tbox in the first place It doesn't weigh that much now to be fair but yes, it could do with bigger breaks. If I braked half a mile too early like everyone else they would be perfectly fine but I don't, I like to make use of the straights... Suspension is high up there just after new tyres, another set of break pads probably and I need to get those bushes changed when the suspension goes on but I think I'll need some new bolts because I have a funny feeling the suspension may need an angle grinder. And then I have to get track-days booked. No good up-grading if you're not going to use it is there?
  17. So did I when I had my old Fabia, they worked very well for the most part although they did fade a little on the banked section of Rockingham one lap when I was coming up towards Richards Yeti so they were about at their limits on that car, but with my breaking in the Octy they will go like butter. As for track tyres, the idea at the minute is to buy new tyres for the Monte, wear them down a bit then use them up on track that way I keep good tyres for the road and track gets cheap rubber to burn. I'll see how it works out in the long run but it doesn't seam to be going too badly up to now considering how many track-days those tyres have done. As for Redstuff being softer than yellow, at least I still have the pads that the car came with so if it eats those pads in half a day or something daft I can do a quick swap. I'll see what I can get hold of next time but I'm not going to let it bother me too much for now, they are on the car so they can stay there.
  18. DAZZA66 has some Octy Spiders for sale with some part worn R888s on, but he's selling his car with the possibility that the new owner may want them to, but if the buyer doesn't want the wheels then I have dibs. Otherwise I'll be putting the wheels off the Monte on like before. They have lasted for a few track-days, the back wheels have lasted for rockingham, snetterton, bedford and croft while the fronts have done snetterton bedford and croft. So not too bad.
  19. A few pictures from Croft taken by the official photographer: In the end it turned out to be a very good day, certainly one that will be remembered anyway. I wouldn't have wanted to go out for much longer with those break pads anyway so the sump didn't cut my day short. Even though I don't care about this car as much as the Monte I wouldn't have wanted to be going down the pit straight with no breaks.
  20. Right, so it's been a couple of weeks now since Croft and things are looking alright. I'll start off with a picture of the old sump that I took off at Croft: As you can see it's not looking too good, but the new one is on and the car is going well, ran perfectly all day no bother. Tyres got a bit worn, the first couple of pictures are of the back two which would have been alright for another day at least but I think I must have hit a kerb a bit hard because there's a bleb in one of them. It's a shame because there's still quite a bit of tread left on them, but better safe than sorry. Next is front right which isn't so good. Really need to get some coilovers on and sort out that camber so it doesn't do that to my tyres any more. Now today I got a bit of work done on the car that needed doing, I started off by fixing the drivers door handle so now I can open it from the outside without having to leave the window open, all it was was the cable wasn't caught far enough back on the little teeth on the end of the handle, so lock out, clip the cable back, lock back in and done. Works perfectly every time. Then I changed the oil, again. Because when I changed the sump at Croft there will still have been tractor transition/hydraulic oil left in the filter so now new oil and filter should have got rid of that and it should be alright. While the oil was draining I changed the break pads and painted the calipers red while I was at it. Old Yellowstuff next to new Redstuff for comparison. The Yellows lasted for two days. Lets see how long Redstuff lasts for. Then I got the power washer out, washed in the engine bay and washed the rest of the car and the Monte. But I got bored and curious again so did a bit of weight saving in the interior. Don't think I need these bits in the dashboard: Who needs screws anyway, right?
