  1. Yes. Because at the moment its a cheap car, later it becomes a cheap modified car. Brentacre will insure it modded if the value of the mods take it to £1500 but I'd need to fit them immediately or be uninsured. Its not the weather for scratting about fitting coilovers etc :P Your ability to rephrase someones post and point out the obvious is still going strong I see.
  2. So I called Brentacre to switch insurance from my Tiguan to my new purchase, a £800 Seat Cordoba. They (or the underwriters) refused to cover it as the value is too low. Apparently the claims stats on lower valued cars are too high. Now left with a conundrum... do I go with a 'normie' insurance company and leave my car standard or play the ring around game? I've had good experiences with Greenlight in the past on my Fabia but I don't think they'll cover the Cordoba standard as they don't do normal cars (wouldn't do my Tiguan). Oh and the Brentacre fiasco, with the fees, meant I paid ~£150 for 26 days insurance.

  5. I do. I had a bike with electronic assistance and did it all year (in fact my highest mileage was December). It got nicked and now I'm trying to make do without the assistance, so sticking to good weather days until I build up more resilience. My ride is 10.7 miles each way, however on the round trip I'll do 2200ft of climbing (much worse on the way home as I live on top of a large hill). Cycle to work all looks like a faff, unless your in the 40% income tax bracket it looks like it would be more effective to shop around or buy last years model with a discount.

  8. 1. Depends on the car, if its your superb I'd get some! Try REIS. 2. Yes, but if they are anything like Karting helmets you wouldn't want to put it near your head. I find I sweat a lot on track, I bet the previous occupants of the hire helmets did too. Fairly basic helmets are going to protect you (afterall, your head isn't going to be coming in to contact with anything but the interior of the metal box keeping you safe from the rest of the world unlike on a bike) well enough for a track day, well worth £50 or so. 3. For your first time it would be a hell of an expense and unless you go straight out hard you'll probably be ok on your road tyres. Just keep an eye on the temperature and don't wear them too low or overheat them. If you think however you'll be using them again, Federal RS-Rs are a good budget track tyre and are road legal, just make sure you have enough tread depth if you drive home on them. 4. No.
  9. You can chop more off that alternator bracket. Iirc the stock one without aircon only has 3 bolts (just fitted one to mine but don't know where it came from... maybe Tech1e's engine).
  10. £100 is for 1 car 1 driver. You can normally add additional drivers on the day for 30ish £ payable to the track day organisers.
  11. Well feck, need a slave cylinder. Mine won't seal even with a new £10.50p gasket (2 o rings, 2 bleed nipple covers with holes in) from Leeds TPS (no discount there :(). Guess the pipes been in and out of it too many times, made it all lose, it is the original one that came on Ibiza No.1.

  13. Engine bay coming along, waiting on fuse box and filter: Jerry rigged, extra safe (yes that bit poking out is live and unfused! No I don't have a breaker anywhere... :P): Battery goes here... no tall passengers. Breaker will go behind the handbrake: Dash is all in looking OEM, but theres very little behind it, or holding it in And finally... what the hell is this: So what I thought was just a bit of filler replacing some broken bumper fixings, turns out to be a massive piece of it. I really should have looked closer before putting so much time in to this shell as I'd have taken a few pieces off to break even and scrapped it :( I'm now thinking of smoothing the rear end and running bumper less and trying to make this bit a tiny bit less crap, which will be a lot easier when the bumper isn't there highlighting the fact it doesn't follow the original lines.
  14. Got a fair bit accomplished this weekend - will get some pictures tomorrow been called in for food All the wiring up front is finished, just the rear lights to sort. Radiator/intercooler and all the pipe work is on, just need some new clamps for the cooler pipes. Setup exactly the same as the Fabia, but seems to fit better in the Ibiza... the bumper isn't as restrictive in pipe placement which helps. Brakes all bled through with some Pagid fluid to get it going and flush through the crap, used my new compressor driven vacuum bleeder... seemed to take a lot longer than the Eazi especially on the rear. Got it started! Its amazing how badly these run without a throttle pedal connection! Fixed now and it ran up to temp with no issues Oh I whacked my standard downpipe back on... will worry about the 3" decat later. Just need some parts... the little rubber seal off the clutch pipe has gone walkies. I've got a spare somewhere but I've got no idea where. Think it was £8 last time from VW! Pics and a bit more to follow tomorrow... tempted to get booked on for Blyton in October to shake down before Snetteron - I don't want to waste half a day after travelling all that way like last time!
  15. Slowly slowly. Black rocker cover back on (had this for a year or more, was going on the Fabia but I never got around to it): I did have a painted intake to match, but I crossed a thread on one of the TB bolts and knackered it :( Spent a lot of time messing about with the loom and tidying it up. One of the areas that always annoyed me was where the loom drops off the chassis leg near the PAS. It was messy. Looking a lot better now with some bits routed through the chassis leg and the relay box thing moved (will go in the wing): Don't know whether to take the GB mount off (another purchase from a year or more ago I never got around to fitting) and route under it or leave it as is but wrap it up as one. Going to get some fuse holders rather than use the cut up battery box lid as I was doing. Should look a lot neater. Interior essentials going back in: I really want to get a shakedown track day in October rather than take it straight out at Snetterton... but I have one more weekend in September free and lots still to do! And at some point I think I'll need to get it mapped for the decat! Need to contact the mapper about whether the 2nd O2 sensor is in use and if I'll be safe to take it on track before getting it mapped to suit.
  16. I suppose. It does sound like a possible white lie to get me to 'buy' from them. Thing is I'm not sure I want to poke the bear regarding the value on the bikes - they were both ~8-9 years old (frames anyway) and very different to their original specification, proving the values could be difficult - but if the company have already come up with bikes with an RRP higher than my limit anyway that should count in my favour! May need to start with the claims department directly at the insurance company tomorrow.
  17. I recently had 2 bikes stolen from my locked garage. Both the bikes were specific items on my household insurance and I'd set values for them. My insurance company passed me on to a 3rd party who asked me all the details of the bikes to find suitable replacements and ensure I wasn't passing £100 bikes off as higher value items. One of the bikes was an eBike converted mountain bike, built from parts over 8-9 years, the replacement I was originally offered was coming in at around £2100, however I had only put £1500 down on the insurance - that is what it would cost me to build it form parts using the same Chinese eBike kit (which incidentally had done 3000miles without incident) on a middling-entry Hybrid. The other bike was straight forward and the replacement offered at £2000 which was the same as the value I'd insured it for. Realistically even if the company offered me their choice of eBike I'd not want it - the eBike was built from bits I had and wasn't fully tailored to the use which was commuting. I'd go for a hybrid or road eBike instead rather than trying to make an MTB in to a road going machine. And with the 2nd bike, a full suspension MTB I think I'd go for a hardtail if doing it again. The company I'm dealing with have told me I can take cash - £3500 - my excess - 17% for 'reasons'? Or I can take a voucher at £3500 for this company (and presumably my insurance company will come chasing for the excess). I've done a few checks and it seems the prices on the companies website are not inflated like you'd suspect, so with the £3500 voucher I could probably get 3 bikes - a winter commute hybrid, a summer commute/summer ride roadie and a hard tail MTB. However if I had cash I'd probably just get the first 2... and keep change to electrify the winter commute bike if I wanted to later (I'm probably at the stage where I could commute without assistance, but it would probably take an extra 20minutes). Really my sticking point is the 17%... if it were not for that sure I'd take cash - maximum flexibility with no downside. Is it normal for this sort of behaviour with insurance companies?
  18. I need an MOT I think I can make a bolt out CAT out of what I have + a flange and reducer, save getting the downpipe off which is a bugger.

  20. Ibiza is a rolling shell again Tip, don't leave your rear beam outside in the rain. Went to move the car and the brakes were stuck on the rear. Ended up dragging the car out of the garage rear wheels locked. Brakes off and calipers wound back, cleaned up the pads etc so it rolls. Engine is in, though just sat on its mounts. I have a 3" Decat DP to go on, but can't decide if its worth the faff every year to change it for the MOT? Do want some pops though :(
  21. That lot didn't weigh much and its very time consuming, so if were just to save weight its a very expensive weight saving. It was more to remove the old plugs and tidy up before I rewrap the loom front to back to make it look nice without plastics covering it up. Radio with front speakers, just makes things more bearable if I do ever drive it long distances (or when you drive it while I trailer your broken car ). My head unit weighs naff all as it doesn't have a CD deck, just use it for MP3s from USB or Spotify via the AUX. Heater is definitely staying.

Spent hours on Sunday preparing the loom for the Ibiza... managed to remove this little lot: Both seat airbags, both seatbelt tensioners, both rear speakers, rear wash wipe, radio antenna and some bits that were probably once responsible for the AC. What a horrible job! Still not finished as I now need to tape it all back up and hope everything still works that should work
  23. Its going to remain road legal/usable. I'll be keeping it insured including business just incase. I think Trevor got his Fabia down to 1050kg, so I think 1000kg is a fairly realistic target with 2 fewer doors Fabia is officially off the road, rear beam/suspension/brakes removed and the exhaust from the cat back. Slapped the Ibiza beam in just to make it easier to move when it goes for recycling.
  24. Fabia was 1240kg on the weighbridge. - me 65kg and a spare wheel 15kg = 1160kg in 'track trim' (no seats, spare wheel etc) with no fuel. Fairly certain I can make the Ibiza lighter than that
