  1. ChrisRs, admittedly a bit of a deviation off topic, oops. (gearbox should still be better than that though!! but point taken )
  2. Scott, i love 'driving' mine too but do so much mileage at work it's nice to relax at times, if the bloody thing behaved !!
  3. When down shifting it feels as though it is in neutral for too long before actually engaging, isn't particularly smooth and gives the impression the clutch goes in (if that makes sense) too late, when coming to a complete stop. When in manual mode, and if you are in second approaching a junction (that would ordinarilly be fine in 'drive'), it wants to put it in first too early causing a jolt. I really want to love the car but it is infuriating me at the moment. It's booked into garage tomorrow but i have a feeling they will say it is fine? Also road noise is a bit loud compared to works BMW 530d but i can Live with that.....
  4. Scott1874, you don't happen to have DSG do you, if so any good, mine is currently rubbish at times!!!! :(
  5. It was dead easy fitting them mate. Just trimmed the red wire a bit shorter with pliers and clamped one end of it to one of the wires that goes to the led, and other end to other. Fold the splice clips over, stuff them back up into the boot and hey presto
  6. ...but it appears to be automatically tuning into the weakest signal and hence a crackly and interittent reception? I live in East Yorks.
  7. Hi all again My 2011 Vrs has a Columbus Sat Nav which is great, but for some reason my preset radio station keeps changing it's frequency causing it to lose the strong signal. Ultimately I set Capital at 105.8 and press the preset button until it made the 'bong' sound. As far as I am aware that should then stay like that? The reception is great however if I then drive a small distance, I lose reception and when I check the station frequency, it reads 105.1 !! What's that all about? Am I doing something wrong.? Either way, this and my stupid DSG quibbles are really making me have regrets at buying the thing at the present time.....:( Advice greatly appreciated please
  8. I bought these bulbs: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-3-SMD-LED-36mm-239-272-CANBUS-ERROR-WHITE-NUMBER-PLATE-LIGHT-FESTOON-BULB-UK-/120906569149?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1c2697d5bd then added these resistors: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-LED-CANBUS-NO-ERROR-LOAD-RESISTOR-4w-5w-6w-W5W-T10-T4W-BA9S-H6W-BAX9S-FESTOON-/300682920786?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4602194352 and it all works, looks great !
  9. Car is great apart from going down the gearbox, bloody thing. Not smooth, getting peeved off now. Roll on tuesday when i'm at garage probably getting fobbed off!! :(
  10. Scott1874, i'll try and get you link in near future when on desktop
  11. Hmmm. Can't believe how good it was yesterday and then it does that, unless it was user error. Will see what it's like tonight but regardless it's booked in for check on Tuesday
  12. Oh lordy. Drove to work yesterday using it as a manual and was genuinely surprised at how smooth and responsive it was, great stuff. Just been for a spin into town using manual mode again and found myself kangerooing around town like a good 'un! Just changed down into 2nd and moment eased off on throttle it dropped into first! Admittedly i was not going that fast but why the inconsistency, unless the fact it was cold and i just so happened to have hit minus paddle at same time computer did so it went down another gear? Also seemed to take a long time for gear changes, slower than when in Drive? When it's on form i truly love it, when it makes daft moves like that it annoys me!
  13. Just like to say thanks to all for your replies and observations. Interesting to hear the spiel about the BMW box, that certainly answers my questions about that and does indeed reiterate how good the zf unit is. The observations from Philbe and Boneman describe pretty much identical characteristics of my vehicle so based on that i would suggest there is no major issue. I too get a vibration, perhaps from the same item, at the same rpm. Gear change times are identical so at least i know the gearbox is not doing anything it shouldn't, based on your experiences. Reverse and forward from stationary takes a bit of mastering like you too. Have to feather the brake to avoid shooting away at speed ! Think i will mention the vibration, the slightly wobbly speedo needle, the sometimes rough nature when slowing to a stop (v slight jolt) and ask for a dealer reset. Then I will just learn to enjoy what is undoubtedly a good car (just wish i didn't drive the BMW daily to which i find myself comparing!). Thanks again to all........
  14. Hi goatboy. The BMW 530d is an 8 speed auto but with paddles, is that not a DSG equivalent, as opposed to what you talk about? Forgive me i am not technically minded at all, just know how to drive well The BMW is the smoothest vehicle i have EVER driven and highlights the DSG's imperfections somewhat, The Vrs should have whatever the BM does!!!! Guess i should try another Skoda DSG and compare it to mine in order to give it a fair trial. Thanks for your input mate
  15. Perhaps i am just being uber sensitive, perhaps not. Will have to see what the garage says...Ref last reply. I don't think there is a remap. Just don't think it was 'that type of driver' if you know what i mean
  16. Thanks for your input. Does it make much difference as to whether or not it's a diesel with regards to how smooth they are, i would have thought not. Sometimes on down changes it feels as though it's effectively in neutral when swapping gears and as result almost freewheels prior to the lower gear being selected? I have a feeling that like many others it would seem, garage will say 'no faults found, it's fine' ? Guess gonna have to badger them a bit. Want to ensure any possible Gremlins are addressed whilst still under warranty !!!
  17. Lol, No offence taken Rob I hear ehat you mean but no, i was driving with an incredibly disciplined right foot, which again may also be part of the problem and cause it to upshift too early in my opinion, most if the time? Like i say, ride home today was great. Not sure if i even did reset right, how much u supposed to push throttle in for the 20 seconds and is that a deffo reset technique? I understand i must try and adapt to it whilst it gets used to me too. Touch wood it will grow on me more..........
  18. 36. Bought 2011 Vrs tdi DSG two weeks ago. Couple of annoying things such as a wobbly speedo needle and perhaps a DSG that needs resetting? Although behaved today and as it's fully loaded, love all the tots. Would like blue dash backlighting as opposed to green tho !!!!!
  19. Thanks guys. Well i tried what gadgetman suggested, ignition on, then pressed accelerator down for 20 seconds and well, i don't know if you're winding me up that it works or if just coincidence but car seemed to run smoother with better gear choices. Will it stay like that? If it was this mechatronic thing, would it improve like that or stay the same?
  20. Thank you guys. I've got car booked in for next week, i really hope it addresses the issues because bar the disappointing gearbox experience, the rest is great. Heard some real horror stories about DSG since reading up so hope it is not the start of something awful. I'll keep you posted, in the meantime I'll try the reset thing as suggested by Gadgetman?
  21. Hi. I appreciate this question has probably been asked before however I need some help! I have just bought a 2011 Octavia Vrs CR tdi DSG. It has 20,000 miles on the clock and 2 Skoda dealer stamps in the book. It has every conceiveble extra and I absolutely love the car, BUT, I fear my DSG may be a bit of a lemon....I have driven one before, albeit, not for very long and it was great. I never actually got much of a test drive for the one I bought due to the fact it was the other end of the country, but somewhat stupidly was so smitten due to the kit it had on that I did the deal anyway. I have read people singing the praises of DSG for it's silky smoothness, but I can shift gears much smoother than this thing which is really starting to take the shine off the ownership. It seems to have a mind of its own, changing down to go up a hill, but then shifting straight back up and feeling like it is labouring the engine. When approaching roundabouts there appears to be almost too much engine braking when it drops down to the 2nd gear and seamless it ain't! Around town I feel it quite embarrasing, as it wants to be in third gear at just over 1250 rpm. I pulled out of a junction today and it hung onto 1st for ages before selecting 4th! I sold my Golf Gti (much to the wifes horror) to buy one of these as I wanted greater space and a more relaxed drive, I've got the space, but not the relaxed ride. The engine feels great, but why am I considering selling already, just becuase of the gearbox? ! I guess what I am trying to say is do you think the gearbox is actually faulty, or are my memories / expectations simply too high. I drive a BMW 530d at work at high speed and also just pootling around. I appreciate that vehicle is £40k quids worth, but the gearbox is in a different league....advice please :( Thanks in advance
  22. I Finally got my rear registration LED's sorted....on a 2011 Vrs. Bought a pair of 'non error' 3 x LED bulbs from FIZZMO on eBay. Fitted them but warning light came on straight away :( I then ordered some load resistors from the same place, clipped them on which took literally minutes, and hey presto....the bulbs now work with no errors and looks great ! They are designed to fix the problem, so I am hoping they will remain issue free. Any one got any horror stories with doing this as my mechanical / electronic knowledge is zilch ! Cheers
  23. Hi, I'm new to this forum and loving my 2011 Vrs which is I am pleased to say, fully loaded, BUT, I really want to complete the car by having white LED's for the rear number plate light!!! Please can somebody tell me which ones to buy and from where, but I do not want any dodgy 'bulb failure' warnings on the dash. The ones I had in my 2006 Mk5 GTi worked fine, but now one of the small reisitors is missing I have the fault showing. Is that purely because of the missing resistor or due to the fact the Vrs CANBUS system is more sensitive. I am hopeless at anything DIY so need to have something that will fit straight in without tinkering? My original ones were just CANBUS LEDS from Autobulbs, do I just buy a new pair or will that be a waste of time? Thanks for your help
  24. Evening all Just bought a 2011 Octavia Vrs TDI DSG. Love the car but a little apprehensive about the DSG box in case it develops any major issues once out of warranty. Must admit it drives great in Sport but does tend to shift up a little too early when just in normal 'drive'? ** I really want to put some number plate LED's in, but the ones I currently have produce an orange bulb failure light on the dash. Please, please can someone tell me which ones I need to buy in order to avoid that issue? ** Here's hoping for an answer soon 'cos I really want my car looking perfect straight away and the standard yellow just doesn't cut it ! Cheers
