  1. Mechatronic units have to be programmed to specific vehicles apparently. This is apart from mechatronic units being specific to models from a hardware perspective. I am in a different country and the dealer here does the same for VW vehicles and also quote similar time schedules. Unfortunately.
  2. http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/acms/cs/jaxrs/download/doc/UCM447515/RCMN-13V568-9034.pdf 1st page: Interesting how recall info is stated from country to country. In the US they clearly state that there is increased risk of a crash and label the recall a safety recall for essentially the same issue affecting gearboxes in other countries.
  3. I am inclined to think it was a design issue that they weren't sure about. Would be interesting to have been a fly on the wall while they researched this issue. If one looks thru tpis in Elsa it seems like they fixed all the other smaller issues relatively quickly and even if they didn't have a fix they at least acknowledged an issue but left instructions for dealers stating that they they were working on a fix.
  4. From what I have seen so far they still say the mineral oil doesn't need changing "for life". My car came with mineral oil and I was told by my dealer there is no change interval. The discussion of what "for life" really means and if it is worth following is up for debate as well. I intend to follow the for life instructions and only change it when the clutches have to be changed but there are several owners in other countries like Singapore and Malaysia that seem to be changing theirs on their own interval.
  5. Not sure how much you guys read through other forums in other countries but I have since this dq200 reliability issue has been under debate for the last 4 years or so. Someone asked why new cars were being filled with synthetic oil. I think VAG. didn't know the synthetic oil was the problem. They switch or use mineral oil and synthetic oil at the factory at different times for different models. So it has happened where they would use synthetic oil from say June 2010 to November 2011, switch to mineral oil from November 2011 to December 2012 then back to synthetic from December 2012 to August 2013 and finally back to mineral. I have seen similar patterns across VW, Seat, audi and skoda models and it partially explains why it seems like recalls affect old models then skips a few years then affects newer model cars with the dq200. It should be noted that many of the switches back to mineral oil recently occurred near to recalls last year. I think they only realized that the synthetic oil was the problem in 2013 hence the majority of recalls. For older models they got their mechatronic units replaced because due to their age the amount of corrosion in the mechatronic unit would be substantial. When these mechatronic units were replaced the gearbox was also refilled with mineral oil. In fact to remove the mechatronic unit the gearbox oil automatically drains out. This recall is know 35c1 and was carried more so in Asian countries and Australia for example. For newer vehicles corrosion probably hasn't set in as much so vag feels that simply changing to mineral oil is sufficient? Recall 34f6/34f4 governs this and seems to only affect 2013 models of various vag vehicles including the new golf 7, jetta hybrid in the US to name a few. In some countries it's called a recall while in others it seems to be a campaign but the work carried out for 34f6/34f4 is the same no matter what it's called. Drain gearbox of synthetic oil G052171A2, use suction bottle to get all of the synthetic oil out as much as possible near the end, replace with mineral oil G052512A2. You can verify this by checking ETKA to see what synthetic oil Vag used on your vehicle depending on the production date. Those who have had the oil replaced by the dealer can you check etka to verify if according to the production date your vehicle came with synthetic oil? I also have a theory that some versions of mechatronic units have been altered to avoid this issue but I have less info due to the lack of technical data on mechatronic units.
  6. Where I'm from the humidity is 90+ % and temps are on average 34 deg C daily. On an island. No recall though. I wonder what VW considers hot and humid climate with stop start traffic conditions.
  7. I don't believe this excuse put forward by others. They are basically saying it's down to driving aggressively. For example wot over short distances say for example in traffic or between road humps etc.
  8. I've been trying to find out what causes the juddering for a while now. It's intermittent in mine so hard to replicate for the dealer. I have heard different explanations from improper wear on the clutches (improper but only affecting clutch K2) to bad driving habits to inherent design flaw to clutch lining bedding in. Haven't found a reason that holds up to scrutiny though. VW hasn't even released revised clutch packs in three years so they don't seem to have any real issues.
  9. Glad you got it changed easily. Was it juddering all the time in gear 2?
  10. Sorry to bump an old thread but what did the breathing represent? What was wrong with the mechatronic unit that it was sufficient to be replaced by the dealer?
  11. You've experienced the 7 speed dsg "judder". Basically feels like clutch slippage after the clutches have heated up from normal driving. Usually exhibits itself in gear 2 in D mode. I think it is due to the shift points of D mode when accelerating from slow corners or slow speeds in gear 2. You won't experience it in sport mode or manual mode because the car does not allow you to pull away in gear 2 in those modes but rather forces you to be in gear 1 till about 1800rpm at about 20 kph. D mode can go into gear 2 pretty much from 1200 rpm in gear 1 and about 5-10 kph. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. I use it when I'm away from etka on my laptop. Very useful website and up to date. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. The fragile aspect of the dq200 dsg seems to be the mechatronic unit rather than the clutches. Hence the recall targeting aspects of the MU. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. LOL Here is probably one of the few places on Earth where you can accept drinks from strangers and still wake up alive the next day! On the other hand here is one of the few places VW only gives a two year warranty. Skoda gives four! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Thanks guys Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. I don't own a Skoda but I do own a VAG vehicle. Came across this forum while doing research on dq200 dsg in my 2012 euro spec Jetta and a few Skodas. Found the forum interesting and decided to sign up! Here is my ride: Looking forward to seeing pics and posts on the new Octavia as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
