  1. Little update, ended up being offered £4200 or £3500 with the car. Chose to keep the car but there's been a slight rattle for a while and looked likely the dmf was on its way out so sold the car for £1050. Ended up with £4550 all in so not bad. Currently car sharing with the wife as didn't want to rush out and buy the first car I saw but intend to get something a bit newer and less miles. There's a nice red Octavia Vrs tdi 11 plate with 53k miles for £9000 but is in Norwich so a long way to travel. I will keep looking and hopefully can pick something good up.
  2. Did what you said and now they are giving me £4100 + £200 for handing in the hire car early so cheers for that. Quite happy with that.
  3. Well I spoke to the insurance today and they have told me this is the top retail figure I think she said and it would be the same for any insurance company so there is no room for movement at all, but if I hand the hire car in tommorow rather than next week they will pay me the money they save - just over £200 so I will get just over the 4K. I'm really not sure what to do with buying the car back, it's at that age where it's more likely to have things going wrong and won't be worth spending money on it if I buy it back, also in the process of buying and selling houses so a lot of other stuff going on just now. Am I likely to make money on it selling as it is? Could be good for someone who has the time and place to break it or someone who would repair it themselves, would need to get it recovered to my house so more money to go out. Just don't know whether to just take the cash and forget about the car.
  4. Yeah I am planning to get the car back for that money and either fix, break or sell it but is a no brainer to buy it back for 700. I will speak to the insurance tommorow and can show them examples of cars and see what they say and keep yous updated
  5. Got the phone call today to say that the car is being written off, they have offered me £3800 or £3100 plus the car. This seems a not bad offer until I started looking for a replacement car. If I am buying something the same age I wouldn't want to buy private with no comebacks and the ones from dealers are nearer 4500, obviously a few cheaper but not near me in central Scotland. Will be having a good look online tonight to see what I can see.
  6. Well I got it to a good local bodyshop yesterday and spoke to the guy there today, he said it's about £2300 to repair and they have sent all info to insurer. I phoned the insurance company who said they need their technician to check it to see if it will be repaired or written off and I should find out Monday or Tuesday, think it's the paperwork he's to check so don't see how it takes so long. Does anyone know what cost AGEAS would repair up to or what percentage to cause it to be written off? I'm not that confident they will want to fix it.
  7. No wheel impact, it's just a bit of damage to the bonnet at the side of the grill, a bit creased so don't know if that would be fixed or need replacing? I like the car so would like to keep it but if it's written off I would put extra cash towards a newer car. Only thing is I am in the process of selling my house and trying to find a new house so could do without the hassle right now. Would ask about buying it back if it comes to it, could work out ok.
  8. Yeah kind of thought that, well should hopefully find out tomorrow anz fingers crossed it gets fixed
  9. On my way home tonight someone pulled out on me so I now have a fair bit of damage to my car, the lady held her hands up and her insurance company is taking full responsibility. I am wondering if this is likely to be repaired, there's damage to the wing, headlight, bumper and bonnet that I can see. Cars getting picked up tomorrow but just wondering if anyone has had similar damage. Cars a 56 plate Vrs tdi with just under 100k miles
  10. Would much prefer to go to them but really don't want the hassle of small claims etc, how long has it went on for you and have you any idea when it will be finished? Are you confident you should have it found in your favour at small claims?
  11. I asked how independent it really is and was assured its totally independent but imagine he will probably be slightly biased towards Skoda as they are getting him all these £180's (Got told its someone that travels up from England most months to check claims)Will phone again on Monday and ask about getting someone I choose to get an independent check done, I am confident it should be a valid claim if checked by someone 100% independent but would hate to lose £180 and not get the problem sorted
  12. I thought it was a case of if the paint is bubbling with rust but the paint has not broken it's rusting from the inside out so would be a claim.
  13. The pics I've posted were the ones I took, the ones sent to Skoda were by a warranty claims person, on his Samsung S6 and not any better than the pics I have. I thought it would probably just be a scare tactic but is a lot of money if I end up needing to pay it. The reply he gave was that they don't think it's a manufacturing fault but if they give a 10 year corrosion warranty and this is rusting from inside out how can it not be a manufacturing fault?
  14. Had my car at the dealers on Tuesday as have rust bubbles under the spoiler and had pics taken and sent down south, paint is not broken so to me looks to be rusting from inside out. Got a call today to say skoda don't think this is a manufacturing fault, the man that's dealing with the claim said if I want to dispute this I need to get an independent check organised by them and if found in my favour will be done under warranty, if found in their favour I have to pay the £180 fee. Wonderful how many people have had the "independent check" and how it went, if there's many who had it found in their favour? Cheers
  15. I got these on eBay, really good quality and fit the Vrs seats perfect. Item no 281260398284. Don't know about warmer proof do you mean for heated seats?
  16. Yeah just had a look and ordered it, seems like a great price. Will need to get a filter but is two different filters showing for my reg on ecp
  17. I saw that but just seems that cheap I am a bit wary as people say there's a lot of fake oil on eBay
  18. Think I will just get the stuff and do it myself, i have put my reg in eurocarparts and it says the oil I need - Triple QX SynPlus VAG 5W30, says "without dpf" so not sure if this is correct oil, can anyone confirm this is the correct spec for pd170 Vrs
  19. Yeah I was going to ask when I go down to make sure it is the correct spec. Oil filters they use are unipart I think, if they are all much the same I would just get the one they supply then. Had the car serviced about 10000 miles ago so just want the oil changed as car is on 95k and don't fancy leaving it another 6-12 months for it
  20. Just wondering if anyone has had an oil and filter change at national tyres? Went on their website and to get an oil and filter change on my octy Vrs tdi its £40.46. I was going to pay that just for the oil from halfords so seems a good deal and saves me getting my hands dirty. The oil they say they will use is Titan GTI Pro-C3 5w30 XTL. A search of that oil says it meets vw 505 00 / 507 00 spec, should be able to buy a good quality filter and ask them to fit that instead of the one they supply I would hope.
  21. Cheers will get it checked over again over the next couple of days and hopefully get to the bottom of it, tbh I don't mind too much if it costs a few quid to get sorted, would be worth it just to get the car driving like it should
