  1. Hi Mikkel Replacing the chain tensioner seems to have solved my issue of rattling at startup - it's been at least 2 weeks since I had it changed and I have not got the rattle on cold starts since. This includes cold starts where the car was sitting un-used for multiple days. So I think the new tensioner has solved the issue. An interesting thing to note - the tensioner that was removed from my car had a part number of 03F109507D (this is the part that was installed from the factory) and the replacement tensioner had the part number 03F109507F - so I'm guessing VW has changed the design of the tensioner? Best Regards
  2. Hi Mikkel Sorry for the late reply. I finally got the tensioner replaced yesterday - along with the water pump (it was leaking) and the regular oil change. I started the car today morning and there was no noise and it started up smoothly. Will have to test more cold starts if the problem has indeed been solved. Thanks
  3. Hi Mikkel Sorry, I don't have any updates for you, The item has been shipped to me from Germany through Deutsche Post - last status update was on 25th June I remember many years ago getting an item from Deutsche Post (DHL Paket International) and I remember it being quite slow to arrive - so I'm guessing this package too will take a lot of time to reach me. Will surely post an update here once I receive it Best Regards
  4. Hi Mikkel Unfortunately not, I still have not got it and I don't think the website I ordered from is going to source it for me. The status of the item even after a month is still "processing" and I have received all the other items from this order. I decided to buy this from the UK and have it shipped to me - I have placed the order today and will wait for it to arrive (shipping is through PostNL) I'll update this thread as soon as I get the item and have it replaced. Funnily enough, I haven't heard the rattle on cold starts for the last few days. Best Regards
  5. Hi I have ordered the chain tensioner with the part number 03F109507F on the16th of May, but unfortunately it has not reached me yet. I'm guessing the part needs to be flown in from Europe that's why the delay. I have already received my water pump, rear shock absorbers and rear shock stop buffers - only the tensioner needs to arrive for the work to start. I'll surely post the results here once I install it. Best Regards
  6. I have a 2015 VW Polo with the same engine (1.2 TSI CBZB) - when cold starting, it also makes the same rattling sound you have posted (albeit, it does not rattle on cold start every day, only during some days) I showed this to my mechanic and he suggested to try replacing the chain tensioner (inexpensive) before thinking about a timing chain kit (expensive) The chain tensioner has been ordered - I also have a few other jobs (rear shocks & water pump) planned for this car, so I'll get the tensioner done once all the other parts come in. Hopefully the tensioner fixes the issue.
  7. what year is your car? Your profile mentions 2009 - so your car won't have that module. Only older cars have 46 - Central Conv module - newer cars only have the 09-Central Electronics which took on the combined duties of both the CECM and CCM of the older cars (If I remember right, the change over happened some time in 2008)
  8. hi I managed to solve this - first up - so the problem was a combination of wrong coding (the car the unit came off did not seem to have a sound system) and component protection in the amplifier So the correct coding in the 5F unit was (by comparing the coding from the other car) Uncheck everything in Byte 4 - Byte 7 byte 11 - select - 02 byte_11_Sound_System,Sound_System_external_MOST byte 19 - Bit 5 (MOST_On) - needs to be checked After doing this, the sound came on, but only the left side speakers were working I had to remove the component protection from the amplifier - and now the sound is working as it should Also, another thing I found out after comparing the coding of both cars, I made the mistake of marking 47-sound system as "Coded" in the gateway - this is not necessary - you can leave it "not coded" (or unchecked in the installation list) - as the amplifier is a slave module of the 5F unit The 5F unit still has a component protection fault code - but I'm guessing that's due to it being a hacked unit - everything seems to work on it so far - so I'm not complaining. Thanks for the inputs Best Regards
  9. Hi thank you for the reply! I believe the radio in my car is a hacked (or jail broken as you mentioned) unit - the guy selling it to me told me that he would make the necessary adjustments so that the radio would be plug and play on my car And sure enough, the unit did work straight away when I installed it onto the car (without needing to lift the CP) - I'm able to use all the features of the unit - radio, nav, android auto etc correct me if I'm mistaken - if the unit isn't jailbroken, nothing would work unless the component protection is lifted, right? I'm a bit new to the MQB infotainment system as my other car is an Octavia II - and all that needed was a simple radio code when the head unit was replaced and everything worked perfectly after that On the connector - I'll double check the connections again - but I seem to remember that there was no optical light shining on the back of my radio unit (the one in the glove box) I'll remove it and check again Thanks again & Best Regards P.S. - I have saved the scan log and adaptation map of the diesel Oct 3 I mentioned earlier- should I compare the adaptation channels (5F) of that car with mine?
  10. Hi all I hope this is the right thread for this query I have a 2018 Skoda Octavia 3 TSI L&K - the car was affected by flood and most of its electrical modules were destroyed The car had the canton sound system with amplifier under the seat. Here are the part numbers of the original parts of the car (all destroyed) screen - 5E0919605M radio control unit - 5Q0035864C amplifier - 81A035223 When replacing the radio, I bought the larger Columbus system. Here are the part numbers of the newly installed items screen - 5E0919606D radio control unit - 565035021C amplifier - 81A035223 (same as original) all the three replacement items were in used condition The new radio is working, but I'm unable to get audio output - VCDS cannot communicate to the amplifier (47 sound system). I checked the coupler to the amplifier (underneath the front passenger seat) and there is no optical light coming. For reference, I looked at another Octavia 3 (diesel L&K) with canton sound system - looked at the coupler coming to the amplifier and I can see the red light coming through the optical line For checking, I plugged my own amplifier into this car and it was working fine Any pointers on how to solve this problem? I'm not sure if the donor car had the canton sound system - so could the coding in 5F be changed to make it recognize the amplifier? 11. Hi pab567 I have retrofitted a virtual cockpit to my friend's superb III. However, I can't get the navigation to show on the cluster (I have connected the cluster with the head unit via optic fiber cable). I suspect his unit is out of date Here is my friend's infotainment system info - could you please check if there is an update for it? Another thing we retrofitted was TPMS - it displays correctly on the virtual cockpit, but there is no info shown on the infotainment screen - I'm hoping this can also be fixed with an update Best Regards
  12. WARNING TO ALL - WHEN BUYING REPLACEMENT REAR WINDOW MOTORS + MODULES FOR THE OCTAVIA II - YOU HAVE TO GET ONES MADE SPECIFIC FOR THE OCTAVIA II - THERE ARE IDENTICAL VW UNITS WITH IDENTICAL PART NUMBERS, BUT THE VW ONES WILL WORK IN REVERSE! Now that I've gotten that out of my chest, summing up a long story - I had to replace the rear window winders + modules in my 2006 Octavia II L&K. I got replacement ones (second-hand) with identical part numbers and they would work in reverse! No fault codes. After a lot of investigation, I discovered that the rear window winder units are made special for the Octy II Look at the photo of the above unit I took from a 2009 Octy 2 - the part number has the word SK3 mentioned it and it also mentions Skoda A5 The VW ones wont have this - apart from these the VW ones are identical. Putting a VW control module on a Skoda winder won't work - I tried this and the result is that it works the opposite. Front Winders and control units seem to be same across VW and Skoda Don't make the same mistake I did - be extra careful when ordering rear window winders for your Octy II Regards
  13. update to this thread: I bought an RCD330 (skoda version) from the interwebs and installed it to my car. The sound system does not work with it - this unit does not accept the coding to enable the sound system. So anyone planning to install this to an Octy II / Superb with sound system, I'm afraid this wont work. The sound systems of the Superb II / facelift Octy II can be made to work with a trick - Read Here , but the it does not sound as good as a columbus / bolero that came along with the car I sold my unit and have gone back to the Columbus.
  14. Yes, I remember reading that some gateway units can be flashed to prevent the battery drain issue. I am not entirely sure if the RCD330/340 units cause the battery drain on older gateways. The battery drain issue was caused by installing the RNS-510 based Columbus head unit on the older octys. Since the RCD330/40 is an OEM unit like the Columbus, my suspicion is that it too may cause this issue. I remember reading that some gateways can be flashed to a newer revision to solve this issue. But I did not explore it in detail. New Gateways (7N0 type) can be had for around £14 online. Installing them is easy enough if you have access to VCDS.
  15. yes they will fit. since you are looking to buy one from china, have a look at the following link - its one with a high quality sony CCD sensor - £20 shipped to the UK LINK the one with the correct connector for the Octavia mk2 is the "TYPE 2" camera in that link
  16. you have the climatronic panel - the trim you are looking for is having the part # 1Z0 858 069 C 9B9 ( Radio trim navigation "satin black" ) - you can order one from your dealer or buy it online I see you have an airfreshner stuck onto the vent - I would be careful about those - they have been known to leak and cause damage to the radio beneath and the surrounding trim - If I remember right, one member here had to replace his Columbus because of it, No extra speaker = no sound system - you are in luck - the installation will be straightforward I highly doubt the cd changer will still work - I do not have one in my car, so I cannot confirm - both of them are same functionally - the first link is the VW one red buttons and a VW theme and the second one is the Skoda one with green buttons and Skoda's theme Get the Skoda version with green buttons as it will match with the rest of the car's dash. Regarding the links you have posted - since both of them are coming from China, I would suggest you order from the link I shared above (aliexpress) - it's priced about the same as your link (£160 shipped to UK) - I had bought one from that link and the seller is very knowledgeable about these units and his units have the latest software versions I believe no problem - at one point I was in the same boat as you - looking to change my broken radio and not knowing a whole lot about this stuff- with the help of this forum, I was able to piece together all the info - glad I'm helping out another member sort it out.
  17. You can look at the following unit: Link for the radio trim, does your car have climatronic or manual air conditioning controls? I think the trims are different for both Your parking beeps should work fine, but the parking distance display may not show on the new unit (optical parking system). To confirm, scan your car with VCDS and check if the park assistance is on address 76 or address 10 - if it is on 76 then it wont work, if it's on 10, it will work If you want to upgrade the parking controller, read the following posts LINK 1 LINK 2 EDIT: I just remembered - does your car have the optional factory "sound system" with the additional amplifier underneath the passenger seat- easy way to check - the door card of car with sound system has an extra speaker in the middle on each door (ref pic below) link If your car has the factory optional sound system, the installation wont be plug and play as the rcd340 wont work with the amplifier.
  18. you can take a look at the RCD340 for skoda. - will need to replace radio trim - may need to replace the gateway unit to prevent battery drain
  19. This worked on a facelift Octy 2 - was able to make the amp work with an aftermarket radio (but did not sound as good as stock bolero radio) This did not work for the older type of amplifier seen in the Octavia II pre FL. Cheers
  20. Hello everyone I have a 2006 Škoda Octavia II (preFL 1.9TDI) I have a Skoda columbus head unit in my car; My car has a factory fitted DSP with the 12-speaker sound system. Here is a picture of the DSP: I am ready to pull the trigger on an RCD330 from China with android auto and Skoda's green backlighting, but I just wanted to make sure it will work with my car's DSP - I have read on some forums that people have managed to get it working with VW's Dynaudio / Fender sound systems by disconnecting and re-connecting the battery - will this trick also work for my car? My hope is that since the RCD330 works with the VW sound systems, it can work with skoda's as well? Here are the current coding values I have applied to my Columbus to get it working with the DSP BYTE 1: 02 Skoda Sound System (CAN DSP) BYTE 2: 00 Sound System (active speakers) BYTE 4: 01 Speaker Monitoring: Inactive (Sound System) BYTE 5: 01 Equalization: Seat Altea (5P) / Skoda Octavia (1Z) My concern is BYTE 1: the skoda sound system is marked as CAN DSP, while the VW/Dynaudio/Fender sound-systems are marked as BAP DSP - dunno what this entails Your inputs are greatly appreciated Here is an autoscan of my car if it is of help : Sunday,17,December,2017,17:28:50:39616 VCDS -- Windows Based VAG/VAS Emulator Running on Windows 7 x64 VCDS Version: 17.8.0.1 (x64) Data version: 20170721 DS276.2 www.Ross-Tech.com VIN: TMBBSD1Z66A1xxxxx License Plate: SKODA OCTAVIA II Mileage: 121440km-75459mi Repair Order: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chassis Type: 1Z-SK35 (7N0) Scan: 01 02 03 08 09 10 15 16 17 19 25 36 37 42 44 46 47 52 55 56 62 72 VIN: TMBBSD1Z66A1xxxxx Mileage: 121440km-75459miles 01-Engine -- Status: Malfunction 0010 02-Auto Trans -- Status: OK 0000 03-ABS Brakes -- Status: OK 0000 04-Steering Angle -- Status: OK 0000 08-Auto HVAC -- Status: Malfunction 0010 09-Cent. 21. Hi I just read this thread and saw the bit about swapping mph faces for kph ones. I have a maxidot that came off a facelift octavia 2 diesel and would like to install it on my pre-FL octy 2. The one I got has mph dial face, and I need kph. Can I simply swap over a kph dial face from a face-lift cluster? I am guessing the speed readout won't be accurate? And can the mileage reading on the display be changed to KM via VCDS? Cheers
  22. Ah, so swapping the mirror lens alone won't work then? That's too bad! The lower part with the indicator and puddle lamp alone costs around £25 I think.
  23. Hi all My passenger side (near side) wing mirror took a hit and broke The mirror shell clips and part of the indicator + puddle lamp casing at the bottom are also cracked, so I am looking at a full replacement assembly. While looking for a replacement, I was wondering if the mirror assembly of right-hand drive and left-hand drive cars are interchangeable (my car is RHD)? I know that the mirror lenses for RHD and LHD are different - I have a spare mirror glass for the near side, so if I get a mirror assembly from an LHD car and swap the mirror, will it work? I am not sure if the wiring is different for the cars - so will the electric adjust and heating etc of a LHD assembly work on an RHD? Also, if the replacement mirror does not have a puddle lamp, can I take out the bit from my broken mirror and install that? The cracked bit is the black plastic trim - the indicator and puddle lamp themselves are okay: Can I take out this bit separately?: Cheers
  24. I think it would be best to take your car to a good independent garage who can read out the fault codes in your car. Where are you located in India?
