  1. Love my Mazda as said above, still miss the 140bhp and 230nm's of torque, love the way i can throw it into a corner and 47mpg though. and a climate control system that actually clears the screen and windows properly in under 5 minutes; none of my Skoda's could ever do that. What am i saying give me a Octavia VRS 245 anyday.
  2. So i have had my Mazda 2, JYN (reg number ends in JYN) for just over a year and done a tad over 5,000 miles and have to say a actually love the little thing. the I.C.E system works with out fault all the time and sounds better then all the Skoda's i have had. The 1.5 sky active engine is a peach, yes it only has 90bhp and 88nm's of torque but loves to rev, and the gearbox ratios from 1st to 4th are suited for this, 5th is only really good on fast A roads and motorways. its comfy on long runs and around town (which is what i mainly do) i'm getting 46.5mpg and its constantly using high revs coz as said it loves to rev. It handles really well but motorway expansion joints makes the suspension thump. It's not used a drop of oil at all. 2 niggle's is the boot, i miss the large boot of the octavia's, and no 6th gear. my biggest gripe is the tyres fitted, they are OEM tyres, but Toyo Proxy's are horrid, OK'ish in the dry but in the wet forget it, they are horrid horrid horrid. the absolute best bit is the colour, soul crystal red is just wow, polish's up really well and looks fantastic from every angle in the wet and dry. Highly recommend these little Mazda's but if you can get one go for the 124bhp spec 1.5 sky active engine and avoid the 70bhp version (very rare to be honest.) Rest assured i still want a late MK3 VRS 245. in Rally green though.
  3. Wow didn't think this was still on here, well just to concluded it, the MG was scrapped about 8 months later from the last post, the cylinder head was replaced with a good second hand unit i found on the on MG Rover.org, got it running but it smoked badly (dense blue smoke,) dropped the engine out and stripped it, found damage to the rings on cylinder 1, and vertical scratches in all the bores. I knew it needed a set of drive shafts as well and found corrosion starting to take hold on the nearside sill, so she went to scrap, but i did sell all the bits that were good and made £1500, which i gave half to niece and kept the other half and used on a holiday in 2019.
  4. All VAG vehicles gained all generations as the revised gen1 is gen 2, and mine was gen 1 but had both cams veriable (think this was only on the 1.8 version to help achieve 160bhp) when i used 5w40 the consumption went down to about 500ml per 1000 miles, but that suddenly went through the roof and i lost 4 litres in the space of 2 weeks, never found out why as traded in for the MK3, had that for 2 and half years and the flywheel is dead, rattling away like a goodun, why oh why fit dual mass flywheel to a DSG gearbox, another bad design. Traded in for MAZDA 2 sportnav + with a good old manual box with solid flywheel. Don't get my wrong love DSG, but dual mass has put a damper on them for me.
  5. Believe or not i'm also in the same trade but small/light vehicle and MOT's (class 4 and 7), but have never done a set of chains and tensioner on the TSi and don't won't to either. Theirs 3 chains, 1 main chain from crank to rear cam, 1 chain between the front and rear cam, and 1 chain from crank to oil pump drive, it's the main chain tensioner thats had the problems and has had several revisions and modifications. Plus the cams each have a veriable valve drive thing to complicate things. VW speacailists charge about £700+ to change the whole lot, i did the research as i was going to have them replaced on my 1.8 TSi MK2, however that suffered drastic oil consumption (was a 2010 gen 1, last of the gen 1 batch) and traded in for the MK3. A tip, if your not doing huge miles in the VRS then change the oil from 5w30 to a good fully synthetic 5w40 oil to VW spec 502, helps with oil consumption as it does not gum up the piston rings like long life oil does.
  6. if its a 2012 year car, then it will be a Gen 2 engine, as Gen 1 was phased out in 2010, Gen 2 had the oil consumption mostly solved but they can and still do have timing chain tensioner problems, the best of the bigger capacity TSi engines were fitted to MK3 octavia's and had/has the known issues ironed out at long last.
  7. I don't know to be honest, i had a obd thing plugged in all the time i've had the car as i knew about the service campaign, DSG temp has never gone above 40 degrees but i don't know what the pressures should be, and Pete i'm still going to frequent the forum as still love Skoda's, just going back to my roots as Mazda's have been in the family since 1986 with my dads first 626, my brother still has 2 very rare 626 coupes, 1 being a ultra rare TWR edition that had a factory body kit and tweaked ECU, gave 170bhp rather then 150bhp, back in 1989 and 1991 that was huge power out of a 2.0ltr 16v engine, now that common out a tiny 1.4 16v engine. shame the coupes are not roadworthy, brilliant things to drive.
  8. Well i'm very sad to say, i am leaving the Skoda family next week. to leave is making my feel sad but the fait has claimed another MK3 Octavia 1.4TSi because of the woeful DQ220 DSG gearbox and daulmass flywheel combo. My car has had a weep from the box for a while (a very small weep) and now has an unusual dsg fluid on the top of the box under the starter motor, plus the dual mass is rattling and sometimes sounds like a shovel. The car still drives perfectly in all modes and is still silky smooth changing gear either automatically or manually, but for how much longer? Well i'm not going to find out as just bought a 2019 Mazda 2 sport nav 1.5 sky active, yes it's less power (90BHP) but has everything my Octy has, and it's a manual (have not driven for 2 and a half years) in candy apple red. And i can't justify £3.5k for a new gearbox plus labour to fit and can't justify £1.9k for the clutch pack.
  9. Don't fit run flats as it will ruin the the ride and handling. BMW's and Mercedes have a softer suspension setup for run-flat equiped vehicles, to take account of the harder sidewalls and construction of the tyres (run flat tyres are constructed with a layer of Kevlar built into the side wall and tread) it also goes the opposite way, don't fit standard tyres to vehicles fitted with run-flats.
  10. So in septmber i will have owned my 14 plate 1.4TSI DSG Elegance for 3 years, but after a long time absence form these very pages (life got in the way) i come on to say i still enjoy and love my car, although i might treat her to some new DSG gearbox oil this year, the dreaded DQ220 7speed box, but still going strong at 45k miles, yep 2014 car with just 45k genuine miles. Must say i still prefer the MK2 interior though, just seems to have a bit more "character" to it i think. The MK3 interior although a very nice place to be and very comfy is a bit err bland to to me.
  11. I carry out MOT's for a living and a missing or played with cat is a fail regardless, same as DPF (we are actually trained to look for any welds or anything that looks out of place. A good quality sports cat is the way to to go as a good re mapper should be able to to do stage 2 with them in place (including the dreaded EGF)
  12. Sorry about the late reply only just come back on, and the answer is no not a fail, The MOT does cover anything gearbox related apart from any mounts which also act as engine mounts.
  13. If you have the receipt to prove they done the work, then yes, they have to fix or replace under the terms of the warrentable parts. that will be one expensive job to sort out as valve do bend when the belt jumps or snaps.
  14. first of my car has had not cruise control since i bought it from dealer (worked on test drive) on the satnav and bluetooth are intermittant (not worried as i don't like using my phone in the car and i have a stand alone tom tom) any way not after an answer for these. This morning job in the car and opened both front windows and one touch was working fine then and when i got to work, however got in the car to come home and one touch is not working on the passenger side front, and all windows won't open and close with the lock or unlock buttons pressed, mirrors are folding/unfolding as they should, question is could it be a door controller gone down or could it be the comfort module. don't have VCDS as yet. on a side note the nearside window works perfectly if you don't use the one touch so i know it's getting power and the motor and regulator are fine. the car does have skoda warranty and the cruise will be rectified soon. Had said octy since september
  15. still not keen on Adam Lambert though, just dosen't have the power and tone in his voice or Freddie's showmanship.
  16. Yep, its purpose is to inflate a tyre so meaty enough for that. better to buy a full size spare (the do fit in space as my car has a 16 inch alloy wheel & tyre in there), if you use the tyre sealant for just a a nail gone through then the tyre is scrap any way as you can't/ shouldn't repair them after. the sealant is only really fit for the bin.
  17. Mine is on 37,385 miles at the moment and the dsg is in fine health.
  18. 2.0TSi has a timing chain not a belt, and being a Gen 3 tsi then the earlier design flaws should of been ironed out (See MK2 octavia forum for TSi problems) as for the water pump again does not have the same problem as the TDI does as is not driven from an aux belt or timing chain, it's driven of the end of a balance shaft shaft by a small belt. With the DSG box, on a VRS it will be the DQ250 wet clutch six speed and will need a DSG oil and filter change every 64,000km, they can go wrong if this is skipped.
  19. If it was me, i'd go with 1.4TSi; it's a brilliant little engine very refined (unless pushed) smooth and quite, yet the power and torque are fantastic for it's size and suits the Octy 3 really well.
  20. yep it's elagence spec, written in my signiture
  21. Sorry people only just noticed this Thread and yes the reply you got from a Moderator is correct, a sheared of brake caliper nipple is not an MOT fail in it's self although i do advise it, how ever if it is leaking then it becomes a fail marked as DANGEROUS. i have actually aborted a test on this as when my assistant pressed the brake pedal, brake fluid was leaking out under such pressure it was just un safe to continue, the vehicle was very rotten on the outer sills (it was a ford searra) that it was taken away on a low loader.
  22. Strange i thought all specs on the MK3 had a mode button.
  23. I knew what you was explaining as i have used it before on a VRS i test drove, but think on the 1.4 and 1.2 maybe they use the mode button differently as mine is not the only Octavia i've seen this happen on, and thought why would they do that.
  24. Ahh the 1.6tdi may be slightly different then in having ECO mode, my 1.4Tsi defo does not have ECO, as said in my above post all my mode button does is switch the traction control and ESP on or off
  25. I have the mode button, but all it does for me is switch the traction control and ESP on and off, has no bearing on my gearbox settings at all
