  1. I swapped some emails with the guys at the Carcamerashop and decided on an 0801 in the end. I'm sure either would be great but I really like the neat fitting on these and the G-sensor and GPS is a bonus. They have had issues with the 0803 and arent selling it yet so I decided to hold off. Ultimately I want a 2nd for SWMBOs car so if I get on well with this and the issues with the 0803 are resolved then that might go in my new car when it arrives and the 0801 will be regulated for light duties Thanks for the tips.
  2. total newbie to dashcams here and trying to decide between the Mobius and the 0801. Small and discreet is what I'm after as long as its reliable and the quality is OK. Both of these seem to have advantages and disadvantages in these areas. GPS isnt an issue and with a heated screen it might be a problem anyway. Is there anything to choose between them? Whats the favourite these days? Many thanks
  3. thanks guys - seems like there are some options. In the past I've managed to get leads tucked between panel edges and run into the armrest box or other storage areas so its all fairly neat. I dont like phones in holes like the ashtray area etc if I can help it. I take it the MDI isnt a worthwhile option? I see people here say its pointless all the time but I'm not clear exactly what it does and where it is? The usual lack of info on the Skoda w/s is very frustrating.... EDIT - having said that I did some focused Googling and found some stuff on the Skoda website I never managed to actually see before. Some detailed pics and descriptions of various options!!!! http://www.skoda.co.uk/models/HotspotDetail?HotspotName=New%20%C5%A0KODA%20Superb%20-%20MDI%20(Mobile%20Device%20Interface)&WebID=d73ff4a6-28c7-4f35-8e61-67eac71ac08d&Page=technology
  4. thanks - I also need to ring to order the auto rear parcel shelf that strikes me as a very handy idea and not a huge rip off at £60. The thing thats confusing me know is all the talk about use of the SD card slot for pre-loading music and the best way to connect & charge my iPhone. Does the Superb have any 12v points in the armrest or other storage places where you can plug in a phone out of sight? I hate having it sat in a tray or sticking out of a cubby hole in the dash. Ideally I want it out of sight, charging and connected for music so I can control it from the steering wheel controls. The SD card slot seems handy for music but I believe it makes playlists and random play difficult so just plugging the iPhone and using it would be much simpler.
  5. The key thing is to find some good wheel protector and keep it used regularly and NEVER use strong acid or alkali wheel cleaners. Keep them cleaned regularly and hope they last as long as possible. The polished rims still seem to suffer eventually though. 2 fronts on my E class went after 18 months but the rears have so far been ok.
  6. didnt specify but thought I read here that they all came with black now anyway? Have a cal with the dealer to look at a couple of bits next wek.
  7. I went for ivory and was at first worried the ivory, black and brown cabin combo would be odd but the dealer sent me a couple of pics and it looks great IMHO. Hope its as good in real life! Got a message this weekend that it will be delivered on week 26 which appears to be the last week in June so hopefully not long now.

  9. Carlack kit every time - polish is superb and the sealant excellent, lasting approx 3 months and the bottle lasts forever. I've tested quite a few over the years but this is still the one to beat for performance and value IMHO.
  10. if you struggle with flies and other organic mess on the bumpers you need the 1z Insect Cleaner - spray it on, leave to soften the dead crap, then rinse it all off with a light hose. Its brilliant stuff designed specifically for insect debris etc on the paintwork. Its not easy to find but you can get it in concentrate form which also makes it very good value. Quick spray, followed by a foam and then when its all rinsed off there rarely anything left to clean off with the wash Yes - I know a bit about pro detailing having had a sideline business a few years ago detailing very high end supercars.
  11. yep - 1 attraction was that the dealer already had a slot in the queue for early Sept. They also said recent experience suggested that firm orders were being prioritised and often jumping up the order, so in a couple of days I may find its queue jumped and could be here sooner if I want it. Much as I want it ASAP it might mean a hassle of too many cars unless I give the current one back early, which is an option as I'll have met the 50% finance hurdle and can ditch it at any time now. Might cycle to Scotland over a few days and throw everything in the car for a drive home - if the dates mean I can get 3 free days....
  12. After much faffing and looking at cars, I've taken the plunge and finally ordered a car. I have a little time to confirm the exact spec but looks like a 170 DSG L&K estate in metal grey with ivory interior. Havent chosen any additional options yet as I think it has pretty much everything I'm looking for right now and I've pushed the budget already really. Not seen a metal grey car in the flesh yet but hoping it looks as good in reality as it does in the pictures. Ended up trying Carwow and they put me in touch with a very helpful dealer, who also smashed the offers from the local guys, although the downside is they're 300 miles away! The other advantage as well as price was the fact they had a slot in the queue that should see me with a car at just the right time to replace my outgoing Merc. Hopefully it might come a little early and in time for the annual pilgrimage to the S of France as the extra space and better economy over SWMBOs wagon will make a difference. Fingers crossed it all goes smoothly from here on....lots of stupid questions on SD cards, accessories and other stuff no doubt to follow!
  13. A pressure washer will easily lift paint if its already a little damaged. Trouble with paint on plastic parts like this is that a little twisting or movement of the plastic can cause paint to pop and then be at risk from lifting with a pressure washer etc. A knock on the bumper could easily loosen the paint enough to start this but equally it could be a defective paint job - its pretty much impossible to know what caused it so it always comes down to one persons word against another. I suspect you'll find it hard to prove anything and given how long you've had the car back since the repair with no complaint about paint quality I think you're going to struggle to change their minds.
  14. yep - Superbs on the stock list are rarer than rockinghorse.....
  15. I was planning to get some Whisper bars with a view to perhaps leaving them in for periods. I have a Thule carrier but part of the appeal of te superb is space to carry the bike inside. I travel all the time for work so like to carry my bike with me for evening training so tinted rear windows and space to cover the bike while I'm at hotels etc is what I'm after. Its finding a flippin car that's proving the challenge now!
  16. this sounds frustrating but my 2yr old E Class has ALL the chrome trim strips showing horrendous pitting and marking that wont clean off, the finish on the AMG front alloys failed terribly and the wheels had to be replaced and more than 1 bit of trim has fallen off....
  17. Thanks for the update. Decided I really want the roof now but the car I was after yesterday has been snapped up so it looks like finding a slot in the line to get one ordered now :(
  18. thanks again - I'm nr Oxford sadly though. Got very keen on the idea now. 2nd best thing to my convertible by the sound of it!
  19. thanks for the replies - I didnt realise it had a blind either as none of the pics online show a blind. SWMBO has a CRV with an enormous double glass roof, with a blind, but it doesnt open which is really frustrating. It certainly changes the feel of the car though. Did I also understand that you can open the rear panel on the roof as well? Again, thats not something I've seen a picture of but sounds like it might be a nice feature. Luckily no height issues though as I'm 6' and doesnt sound like its an issue in the front from reading a couple of old posts on here. I also understand it has an auto-close rain sensor function - sounds mildly useful as well. Had a Saab conv a while back and a Merc E-Class cab the last 3 years but cycling is my thing and I'm sick of having to put the roof down in the pouring rain to get my bikes in or out at races and events. The quickest way to guarantee a freak thunder storm is me rolling up to a race and deciding to get my bike out..... Hoping the combi will make a great long distance bike carrier to the Alps and Pyrenees and I reckon a proper opening roof would be great for those summer trips. Last question, just how dark is Metal Grey? Is it a mid grey or darker charcoal near black? It looks pretty dark but searching through used cars they rarely offer a proper description of the colour - just metallic grey or other vague terms :(
  20. Looking at options and one car I'm interested in has a sunroof. It looks like it will make a big difference to the feel of the car inside but I'm wondering how useable it is in every day driving? I havent found one to test drive with a pan roof so dont really know how it operates etc either and havent found any useful info online. Does it create a lot of wind noise or buffeting when its open? Can it be opened just a small amount like a typical retracting roof? Does it interfere with anything on the roof bars eg cycle carriers? I've had convertibles for years and love the roof down all the time, so dont mind a bit of 'wind in the hair' but dont want a whistling annoying sunroof that just never gets opened. Appreciate peoples experiences.
  21. quick slightly related question here - is there any way to retrofit these to a 2013 Elegance when they werent spec'd as an original option? I have had older Audis where wiring etc for options was often present but not connected, or needed a switch fitted etc so I wondered if there was any way to do this on the Superb at all? thanks
