  2. They are pretty Good i have the Heki version on my 2005 estate and they not only improve the look of the car they are brilliant at keeping water from running off roof and into car when window open even slightly . Back o/s came unstuck after a couple of years so i removed both backs .Fronts are still going strong i am just looking for another set for my newer Estate .
  3. just got a replacement 1.9tdi estate an 08 replacing my 05 . 05 has now done 278k miles and not needed a bump stop but the 08 needs near side replacing so it will be first job done on newly aquired car - spare parts place couldnt give me correct part off registration saying it may be oval it may be round
  4. mine stopped working and after stripping panel and shoving wires in nozzle to unblock found the pipe had snapped as it went through rubber grommet into back nearside panel at side of tailgate,
  5. FAG superb quality original equipment standard think i paid circa £60
  6. I have used the cheaper vag oil bought from TPS I buy in 20L drum its Synta 10/40 part synthetic i have done over 120k miles in last 4 yrs and engine is still perfect passing emmisions test easily on the near dozen Mots i have had (Taxi) and it gets through with fast pass .Car is 2005 1.9tdi
  7. best replacement for a 1.9 is another 1.9 stay away from digital and dpf
  8. being a taxi driver i am unsure as to wether dsg would cope ,it would be nice to have auto but MPG tends to suffer and repairs when needed are astronomical . I am looking at several cars at moment - i have found MOT tester history on gov site to be a useful tool in getting a picture of cars history and usage . One in particular looks fantastic untill you see same FNS suspension problem mentioned in advisories on consecutive mot.s Well maintained ?
  9. I am delighted with my Octavia estate hence i want to go for another same although slightly newer.Have always been a skoda fan Had a 1.3 GL nearly 30yrs ago that i did galactic miles in with almost no problems .Trying to get one with around a 100k miles that has a full service history and with a bit of luck has had clutch and flywheel replaced as well as timing belt and waterpump , May even go for leather i have a couple of examples in mind ,i thought leather would only be found in L K examples that had DSG gearbox that i will avoid with a passion.
  10. Thats more like it ,£299 is a price i might expect to pay.
  11. Looking to update my 2005 1.9 Tdi estate and i have found many at good prices and a mechanic said what about the DPF ,I was of the mind that all 1.9s didnt have such hindrance . What is latest year i can go to get model without DPF and are there any other downsides to certain years or indeed a particular year that may be better than others.
  12. a chap sorted a group buy for bonnet struts on here about 3 yrs ago i got one, think it was about £30 fitted easily and works perfectly to this day .
  13. http://directskodaparts.co.uk/product/Genuine_Skoda_Manual_Gearbox_Oil_1L_G060726A2_G060726A2#.WdukaGhSzIU Found it again is this oil safe to use on 05 1.9tdi Octavia
  14. found some genuine vw oil somewhere at £6 a litre bottle now i cnt find it again
  15. Thanks for that wiilydog, pretty sure the parts man said it was comma brand that they reccomended for Audi volks skoda, not sure if the one you reccomend is available local to me , need it monday am mechanic will have car to change front w/bearing
  16. yes i do use TPS most of the time for most items i get Taxi trade prices but some things are much more expensive TPS admit they cant compete often with eurocarparts for clutches and its exactly same make and spec
  17. sounds meg expensive to me - a decent independant mechnic should be able to save poss £200 off that price .
  18. lots of parts suppliers dont seem to have a clue - how often have you been given the wrong part after giving reg number - System is ony as good as the opertors knowledge in using it. I was given wrong fuel filter a couple of weeks ago and i m often told i need a different oil thn the one i request and have used for 100.000 miles of oil changes
  19. apart from probably paying vastly more for a similar thing .I do buy most of my parts from TPS (subsidiary of VW ) all genuine prts but some things can be found far cheaper for equal quality.
  20. Read several posts but they are making me dizzy - Need to change gearbox oil on 2005 octavia 1.9tdi estate 5 speed - my mechanic says his computer tells him 2 litres of 75w90 synthetic - i go to motor factors to get the same and they tell me Oh we dont use that anymore its been known to damage gearboxes we now use something called 75+ think he said made by comma . He added the diference you will notice is that the new oil is very thin pretty much like auto trans fluid . I was wondering with my gearbox being rther old and worn 260.000 miles that it would benefit from thicker not thinner oil to take up any slack due to wear in components . Any advice very welcome.
  21. Mot is due end of may so will see what that throws up ,car still drives mint everything tight CD multichanger has stopped working and drivers seat very flat and a bit uncomfortable but everything else is good and it still looks very presentable some customers get in and ask if its a new car..
  22. Mine is Taxi 1.9tdi Elegance estate ,not had any major issues and now done 246k service regularly and use genuine parts. I do wonder wether i should change before a possible long list of expensive repairs are required ie electrics - steering etc .Would love another just the same a 1.9tdi PD Estate . What year did they go up to before going all digital injection and DPF etc - and what should i expect to pay for a sub 100k example of the same .
  23. I would imagine its dependant on type of mileage and over what period ,mine is taxi so fairly high miles covered quickly - change oil and filter approx 6/7 k and fuel filter about every 4th or 5th oil change .
  24. get further advice but yes its probably new clutch time .How many miles has present clutch lasted . Cant remember how much i paid but it wasnt cheap bought from TPS think it was sachs brand but i did research and price was good in the general market .you can certainly find cheaper versions but would you want to risk it as its not the simplest job to do.
