  1. I charge my battery every few months (I have a little audio upgrade that tends to draw a bit of power and leave a usb charger plugged in most of the time) this has helped keep the battery going but reading this I might need to think about a replacement...

  2. It’s a tough one... I’ve used a few

skoda main dealer (blade Longford) = over priced, not a good experience.

vhub Tewksbury: not bad, almost as much as main dealer

chris at performance remaps (chase lane, gloucester): location is slightly off putting but boy does Chris know his stuff.

j-worx (Bourton-on-the-Water): great guy and normal has some classic cars in the workshop to drool over.

    challenge (Charltonkings): alright but pricey.

so Chris at Performance Remap or Jeremy at J-worx would be my vote...

...Jeremy for service and general work... Chris for more special treatment ;)

^^^ Is the alignment ever off and needing adjusting, or the wheels needing balanced?

    ?

Do you work for a company that does Alignment Checks and Balancing and on a freebie, and how many miles a year do you do?

alignment is out every 6 months or so... I use my local F1 Auto centre as they had a hunter alignment system - they'd changed it the last time I went in

at 45,000 miles (jan 18) I came out with:

    Left Front

    -0.58 camber, 0.04 toe

    Right Front

    -1.24 camber, 0.04 toe

    Front total toe 0.08

    Left rear

    -1.47 camber, 0.11 toe

    Right rear

    -1.22 camber, 0.25 toe

    Total toe 35

    Thrust angle -0.07

It's been since and they got it better again but the tyres are starting to wear on the inner edge...

  4. Thanks for all the advice... I couldn’t get my hand in all that far but it did dump a load of pollen. However, I found the problem... the cap off the suspension top had come off and was agains the fan!

Thanks again... I can stop panicking about the hundreds of pounds it might have cost me... ... I just need to buy a pollen filter as half a tree and a bee house full of pollen has fallen out  ;)

Whilst you are awaiting a reply from someone in the know, I have seen others with fabia's etc, mention debris inside the fan and/or a/c system. If possible, take out your pollen filter and slip your hand up inside to feel for leaves and the such-like. You would be surprised at to what CAN get in there and just how much of a racket it can create. Just a starting point!

So a load of leaves fell out but it’s a definite issue with the fan rubbing/catching against something....

I've had high intensity bulbs on a few cars (Osram Nightbreaker and Philips Xtreme Vision).  Yes, they burn out a little quicker but I've never had any significant problems.

On certain cars with poor headlight output, the increased visibility they give is worth the increased replacement cost in my opinion.

I was of the same opinion with the nightbreakers, I got over 18 months out of them but the philips racing vision... just over 4 months!!!! Not worth it... see how these Bosch Gigalight Plus 120 last. I was trying to choose between the GE's and the Bosh - needed to make the choice there and then in Halfrauds...

Thanks for the info. It has been working properly today but will keep an eye on it.

I have a similar occasional warm climate control niggle. I turn the car off and back on and its back to normal... I've scanned for fault codes, had skoda look at it with no joy and told there is nothing wrong.

    Possible Solutions

    • Check Lamp for Low Beam; Left (M29)
    • Check Wiring/Connector(s) from/to Lamp for Low Beam; Left (M29)

00979 - Lamp for Low Beam; Right (M31): Open or Short to Plus

    Possible Causes

    • Lamp for Low Beam; Right (M31) faulty
    • Wiring/Connector(s) from/to Lamp for Low Beam; Right (M31) faulty
    • Control Module incorrectly coded

    Possible Solutions

    • Check Lamp for Low Beam; Right (M31)
    • Check Wiring/Connector(s) from/to Lamp for Low Beam; Right (M31)
    • Check Control Module Coding

In plain English - check visually related wiring for shorts (cuts, rubbing against sharp edges or hot areas)

    - then check the bulbs of low beam lamps; replace if necessary.

Yes, I had a look at this... I checked the fuses, reset the fault codes. Checked/looked at the wiring and then replaced the bulbs...resetting the codes again... Tada - back to life! SO, asked the company that I bought the bulbs from in October if this was normal for such a short lifespan and they said the Phillips racing vision bulbs have a 200-hour life expectancy and that that I would have done that since October... So avoid these bulbs would be my initial thought - unless the bulbs I've just put in go as quickly.... Bosch Gigalight Plus 120...
