  1. Hi I am just about to pay for my rear shock absorber bump stops to be replaced. It seems to be a common fault for them to fail by way of disentegration. I occasionally tow a light weight trailer and also have a roof box etc. I was wondering if too much weight is causing them to fail prematurely! Do you think it would be worth installing the secondary springs to provide extra support on the rear suspension of my estate? Does anyone have any experience of installing them and/or using them, handling changes etc. Comments, thoughts really appreciated. Thanks
  2. Well, having now checked it's the one on my estate, which is an Elegence. Not cheap, but worth it from the looks Click Here for the Westfalia Website - The select Product finder and installation instructions from the left had side. Choose Skoda andOctavia II Estate. The choose third option down = detachable with 13 pin. You can also download the PDF instructions.
  3. I beleive that Westfalia do one with swing down 13 pin sockets and detachable bar. Tiny cut under neath the bumper = out of site unless you get on your knees.
  4. I have had a main dealer quote for £342.69 plus water pump and another main dealer asking £450 for cambelt only. Blimey! I think I would prefer the main dealer. How long should the job take to do?
  5. Hi All What is the best price to replace a cambelt on a 2.0 litre 140 BHP TDI (BKD) engine Octavia II? I can't decide if I should do it early, i.e. early August before I go to France for a week a a lot of miles. Also, is it best to combine it in with a service, and/or get the water pump done at the same time? Ihave looked for other threads but none seem to relate to cost for my engine. Any views much appreciated Cheers T
  6. Hi My AC went in for service and came out broken, Fixed a week later with new relay, pressure valve and fuse oh and the full AC service again and gas recharge. OK now. Get the AC serviced its cheaper in the long run and more come back if it goes wrong after a service!
  7. Well other than slight surface abrasion - I have never seen it as bad as with the Octy. I've had Mercedes, VW Golf I & V, Toyota's, even Fiats and Fords. It seems that the problem is only where the rubber ends in a sharp angle compared to a more rounded edge.
  8. Hi All being well a picture of my set up should be in this reply? Thule Aluminium roof bars used.
  9. Hi The dealer did not think that they would do it. I had the backing of my lease company to go back to the dealer as they have more clout with Skoda UK. (I intend to buy my care soon - hence the desire to sought it out). On the basis that Skoda UK agreed to pay to cover the cost - much to the surprise of the dealer I would push them to make a warranty claim. They can only be refused. Make tha point the Skoda Uk have already covered this on an out of warranty car and that it is a design fault (Golf's outer door seal stops beneath the window and does not carry on down the door). The dealer rep and I also looks at a lower milage car and found exactly the same - I wash regulary and clean the seals so it pretty bad paint damage for a cared for car even with 63000 (at the time of the repair) See how it goes
  10. Hi All Skoda UK surprised the dealer and covered the costs of painting the damaged area. I have now covered the area with a sliver of stonechip film which sould hopefully prevent it from happening again. Only drawback was the loan car for three days - a Mercedes!!!
  11. Hi Thats what I have done in tha past. If the car is not towing or has young children and some luggage /roofbox it feels like it is too light on the sterring at full pressure. Cheers
  12. Would you increase the tyre pressure to fully laden with a roofbox?
  13. Not tried yet - car has now done 62,000 miles so would they really cover it?
  14. Hi Just noticed that the rubber door surround that follows the curve of the rear wheel arch has started to remove the paint down to a the primer and in one place the metal. I toucned this up, keep the seals clean and silicone them to keep them soft. Anyonw else notice this problem?
  15. After 8 days in the dealer - my octy is back. I really missed the engine after having a 1.4 petrol and a 1.9 105bhp as a loan car. Anyway all seems to be fine the gear change feels better and I have not heard any grating noise. Althoug, I am nervous, especially when I hear something ut of the ordinary. Lets hope my paranoia goes away soon!! LOL.
  16. UPDATE: Dealer has discovered that the flywheel is not good. Its very early days, but the noise is an early sign of a knackered flywheel and the vibrations ar eslight but noticeable. They are replacing the flywheel and I get a new clutch as well - all under warranty. Its a lease car as well which also helps- but I plan to buy it soon so am glad its happening now!!! In total I will be using a loan car for 5 or so days!
  17. Hi All. Whats the best way to lubricate a stiff handbrake leaver. Mine is becoming stiffer anf harder to pull and I wondered what is the easiest way to lubricate the cable? Thanks
  18. The time isn't an issue or the parts they can get parts in two days. The problem is them having the two experienced staff on site rather the the 'just qualified' technicians left to the servicing only work. If anything else goes wrong inbetween I'll ask them to take it to there VW branch just around the corner - seeing as under the bonet its the same! In any case I would rather have someone competent doing the work!
  19. Update: Its going to the dealers for three days in a few weeks. Have to wait that long to make sure the experienced technicians are not on leave. Keeping my fingers crossed. Also, any repairs will be guranteed for a while as well!
  20. Hi The shudder is only ever in low gears. Nothing has really chnaged there over the last two years. The new noise is however only two weeks or so old. Did it loads as I left the dealer and hardly any on the way. I guess it will be back to the main dealer and ask them to explore flywheel and clutch etc. and see what they say then. It only has 3000 miles or six months to go under warranty. So am keen to get it fixed asap!
  21. I don't notice a shuddering with this particular problem - but I have occasionally in low gears when it isn't always that smooth from standing?
  22. Hi All Any ideas on the following. My Octavia Estate 2.0l TDi 6 speed has developed a grating noise that only exisits when changing up into second or more so into third. The dealer has reset the clutch and lubricated the linkage, and is awaiting feedback from me. The noise has not gone away in the slightest and is irritating and also intermittant. I am worried that it could be more serious. On fast acceleration its no problem. I can hear a grating type from the engine bay and also feel something through the pedal when bring it back up from the floor. It only occurs when the clutch engages again or when the gear engage? never when pushing the clutch down. Any ideas what else it could be. Help appreciated Thanks
  23. Hi All Got a Westfalia detachable with 13pin drop down electrics today - really pleased and very invisible - when not attached. Got dedicated can bus electrics which in my mind has prevented a lot of wiring harnes spline connectors. Strongly recommend
  24. Hi All I have a 2005 Octy 2.0l TDo 140bhp estate with reversing sensors etc. I am looking to get a Westfalia detachable towbar fitted locally with 13pin double electrics for
