  1. Hey all,

So this is something I have battled with for a little bit now, and am curious if anyone has any ideas why.

First, yes, I know the answer may simply be buy a new one and don't bother with the old, but if it is just a cable or something simple, then I'd be happy sticking with what I have. Don't want much from the stereo, but for it to actually work.

So, its a Skoda MS402A according to the book (Basic Tape one I guess) that came with the car and this is what it does, in no particular order:

    - Cycles through the audio options (Base/Treble etc.)

    - Cycles through the geo settings (Balance etc)

    - Press radio preset (i.e. 6) - Changes preset 1 or 2 to selected station and uses that

    - Randomly scans for a station

I thought that I didn't really care and would use a tape/aux connector to get something from it, But no.

    - Vol to zero then cycles through balance settings...So I try and turn it up without looking, I now have sound from the back left :D

Once - over a short period of a couple of weeks or so, the light (When it was off) would flicker/turn on. This has since stopped.

Every now and again it works, for a short while, as expected.

So, I guess my options are:

    - Put up with it

    - If a simple easy fix, maybe attempt it

    - New stereo - probably a simple cheap one will do. Though I'd rather not if I can avoid it. Will that even solve the issue if it is doing the things it does?

I don't know if it is an electrical thing inside the unit itself or what, but it does get a little tedious.

    Cheers

    Scott

  2. Looks like the car come from the right lane so it may be the same blurry and to hard to make out the reg.

Maybe. I was thinking they might have a straighter path in a rear one, less movement across the camera so less blur possibly (similar to the van on the right). Maybe a longer run up too.

But if it isn't running one, then this is all moot anyway...

  3. That would be because of the aforementioned priced of insurance.

At the time I passed I knew I couldn't afford it, but wanted to have the license.

Minimum £4k for any car I put in the sites.

Unless you fiddle it, you can't afford it. Pushed up by where I live, my age, my gender (apparently not relevant anymore - though I'm not so sure) etc etc...

Currently at £1500 for my first car, not driving the 3 years since passing. But that time brings it down... Madness.

  4. I don't understand this. As far as I am concerned the driving standard is not good enough as it is.

I had a problem with the test as it was then...I had to reverse park and turn in the road for mine. Anyone can reverse park behind a car with the entire world behind them. Doesn't help when you pass and have to park in any normal parallel space. Consequently I honestly don't feel too confident do so.

Using a sat nav? So basically listen to a different voice to the tester. I actually think the self navigating was a very useful thing. I think instructors should do this as a matter of course, rather than tell them where to go.

With regards to insurance, I passed 3 years ago, and couldn't afford to run a car until now and it is still at 1500 or so for me now...In what way am I less of a risk because I didn't drive for 3 whole years? Surely I am more of a risk. But that is the way insurance works...

EDIT: Then there is the theory/hazard perception. Repeating questions/scenarios and questions that require no more than simple common sense...

  5. Sometimes even a high enough curb to drive up is enough to get clearance under a car. But best not to do when raining as you will be in the gutter.

    :D

May have been easier on the speed bumps around here, they are more like mini mountains. Seriously, almost every car that goes over them catches, unless you crawl. And even then you never know. The thought of all the bumpers and exhausts that have scraped along them...

So, in the process of talking to my mechanic about my options, he said he will get the part in and fit it for me tomorrow.  :)

  6. Spot on, thanks for that.

Looks like it will be quite awkward to get to. Had a poke around in the engine, I can find it. Getting it out, that will be another matter I fear.

Guess I will have to see how much it will cost me to have it done. If I can do it myself, I am slightly inclined, as I need the car. That and it has only just come out after having a new PAS pump fitted...so, reluctant to spend more on it.

    Thanks again :)

  7. Hi all

The car turned off on me yesterday, throwing this error. Had a look at the ross-tech pages and seems that this is the same thing as the Crankshaft position sensor? (G28)

I have read that this may be something that I could replace, but I am not sure. (Bear in mind I am a complete novice with no tools, or anything.)

The Haynes manual says that on my car it is "mounted on the left hand rear of the cylinder block, next to the transmission bellhousing and access is very difficult."

The pictures are helpful, but they are very specific. Does anyone have any wider images, that may help me locate it and work out my options?

The car has randomly been dropping revs before now, for about half a second then returning to where they were (if at speed) causing a bit of a jolt. I guess this was an indication of it going. The Error is still there I believe (need to go and check again) but the car seems to run ok.

Had a look in the guides section, but I couldn't seem to find anything.

Do you have the part number that I am looking for too?

    Thanks,

    Scott

  8. Hey all,

Finally joining after reading a for a little while. This place is awesome, every question I have there is a thread here somewhere that shows up first. I've got myself lost in a few project threads too :D

Bought the car mid June, at ~57000 miles. Quite low for a Y Plate I thought. This is my first car, at 22 (passed 2011) so I am enjoying driving a lot. I have taken it a little over 60000 by this point.

So far, it has been a mix of good and bad.

Shortly after buying it, it went for a service. Turns out it needed new brake discs, pads and also front bushes. Apparently should not have passed the MOT. Interesting...

Then it was constant EGR Warnings, a PAS failure, and today (Only just came back from the garage last week with a new PAS pump/EGR clean)  It stopped on me, with an Error to do with the Engine speed sensor.

I have a ~£5 OBD2 bluetooth scanner and I am getting this error: (Again, another resource I have found here :))

    http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/16706/P0322/000802

It is running normal again, with the light, but I guess it will just keep failing until it goes permanently. So need to look at this now.

    Other little things:

    - Radio: It just...does what it wants...Sometimes it will reset all the presets to one thing, or it will just scan through the whole range. Or even through the audio settings.

    - Electric window switch: Drivers Auto down doesn't work, everything else is fine. Might replace that at some point.

    - Passenger door handle doesn't seem to fit right, I think one of the clips is broken, need to take a look at that

When it runs, I love it. Times like now, not so much...
