  1. Well, when I was learning to fly in the 1950s (courtesy of Her Maj.) almost the first thing the instructor said to me when taxiing out for my first flight was 'never have the throttle open with the brakes on', & 'listen to what the plane is telling you'. I have found these equally applicable to car driving, I did not get a car licence for a few years after this - had a PPL first. Hope this may of some help?
  2. I try to keep my readers happy! In fact I am not really allowed to do much in the garden in case I mess it up. I do the maintenance, hence the thirty year old present mower. Also wife does not like mechanical/modern stuff. Dennis.
  3. Thanks to all who have replied. Esp those suggesting the Spear & Jackson one which we have now bought from our local (12 miles away) Argos-in-Sainsbury's store. It appears to be a solidly made machine so far as I can see without putting it together. Wife does not need it yet! So question answered, first time I have tried this section of the forum, & it works fine. Thanks again. Dennis.
  4. We'd prefer the Bosch one; our 30 year old model was not Bosch originally, but they took over the company & supplied spares very efficiently, hence our preference.
  5. Jigger72, Many thanks for going to the bother. Yes to first 2, but neither now stocks the mower; second pair miles away. I may end up having resort to John Lewis, at least they free deliver over £50. PS Thanks to the other replies - much my own thoughts.
  6. Good morning, I am trying to find a supplier of a Bosch hand lawn mower (pref in Devon), & have found a company, not local, but who while appearing to be large does not wish to disclose where they are are in the country. They offer an email address, & 0300 phone number - howetools.co.uk. Has any member dealt with them, or know someone who can vouch for them? It is possible to obtain the mower from John Lewis, but I have had less than good experience of them & would prefer to not give them my business. Thanks for any replies. Dennis. [email protected]
  7. Re cam belt changing - how easy (cheap) is it to have the belt examined? I am now using an independent local garage who appears trustworthy with my '64 Citigo ASG. Thanks.
  8. Clockworks, Thanks for your suggestion, however while visiting Aldi I have found one of theirs @ £12.99 which looks as if it will do perfectly well for trickle charge in cold weather should it be too inclement for me to drive. Time will tell . . .
  9. Thinking about a winter trickle charger to keep battery OK. Any suggestions for an inexpensive one which functions? Thanks.
  10. CFB, Does Greenline have stop/go? If so could it have something to do with that? I know someone with a Nissan Note with stop/go who has had all sorts of problems, inc. new battery, new starter motor, et al. Not the same car/make obviously, but a possibility?
  11. Hi, I have an Elegant with the auto box & find it functions best if, when you want to GO, is to just keep pressing on the fast pedal. Uphill this usually results in a change down to 4th & a rush of acceleration. I still get 50ish per gallon. Try it & enjoy.
  12. Emil, I believe one of the owner's tricks with the Rolls Royce Ghost (six cylinder side valve) was to start the engine by switching on the ignition. snapseller.
  13. Good morning, or whenever you are reading this. Do have a look at *********** offering some items of a clear-out I am having. Best wishes, Snapseller.
  14. Thanks. It is rather as I thought. My old 'crude' charger is best consigned to the 'it may come in useful sometime' box. Do you have details of the ones you have experienced? Thanks.
  15. Is it safe to trickle charge the battery while it is situ, i.e. & connected to the car? I have done this previously, but with cars not so electronic as the Citigo, & I don't want to blow some vital bit electronic gear. Thanks in advance for any helpful, not too technical, suggestions.
