  1. As long as all 4 tyres are changed and all have the same rolling circumference, you won't get any problems with diff or transmission (even if you had a 4-wheel driven car). If you switch from 40 to 45 profile, the rolling circumfere will increase with about 3-4%. Your speedo will show the speed closer to actual speed. This is witin legal variations in my country. There are no way to recalibrate the speedo, and it makes no sence either with such a small deviation. I don't think you should worry about variations within the same dimension, all should be within standardized norms.

  4. Looks like a good plan. To maintain the polish, you can use soap with polish and hand wash with a special microfiber "spounge" or spray a wet polisher over the car before drying the paint with the microfiber towel. You don't need high pressure rinse at last stage. The most important thing is to remove all shampoo/chemicals from the paint. It is sufficient to hose it down thorougly with your garden hose.
  5. Sorry for interfering, I'm not English. But from what I can see is the regulation you refer to valid for "goods vehicle, bus and trailers". I don't understand how you legally can install tyres with lower speed rating than the top speed of the car (in my country you must), UNLESS it is M+S marked. This is mainly for adopting to studded winter tyres, and they can have a 100 mph limit. I know that studs isn't legal in UK, but due to EU harmonization I assume the same regulations applies.
  6. It is the hydraulic valve lifters (tappets) which will make a ticking noise at start up if engine has beeen stopped over night or so. The engine oil will slowly leak from the lifters and give extra clearance and thereby noise. But they are there for a reason, there will be zero clearance and no need for periodical checking and manual adjustments.
  7. Is it legal, is it possible, is it wise..?.. If your original tyre size is 205/40R17, you can put on 205/45R17. The rolling circumference is slightly bigger (3.3%). In my country (Norway) it is allowed to vary +/- 5%. The readings of your speedometer will be different, in a way that the readings will be more accurate (closer to the real speed)! 205/50 will be out of range. The wheel will be 10mm closer to the well but I seriously doubt that you will encounter rubbing as long as width and ET of your rims are within factory specs. Bear in mind that manufacturer also must allow for fitting of snow chains and similar devices. The ride may be more comfy, but it may not be the case. It depends on tyre type. Different brands make their tyres different ways and the side walls may be stiffer or softer related to the ones you have now. So it is not given on beforehand just by looking at the size of the tyre.
  8. Maybe UK insurance companies could seek information about proper equipment from "winter countries". Bigger diameters are in fact better in some cases. And "careful driving" is a must, but it is not a substitute for winter tyres.
  9. The difference between the Scout's 225/50R17 and the Yeti's 215/60R16 is 6 mm more in diameter. That means that the wheel will be 3 mm closer to the well, hardly noticeable (half worn it will be the same as a new original size). The speedometer will be 0.8% more acurate. In my country it is allowed with +/-5% from original, and to my knowledge no insurance companies has ever cared about changes as long as they are within the given limits. Even if the manufacturer don't list some tyre/rim variants doesn't mean that it isn't possible. Manufacturers have even margins for snow socks and chains and other local variants..... Octavia is made for world wide use in a big variety of conditions, Iceland is very different from Egypt.
  10. OMG! I'm glad I don't live in England. If the insurance companies operates like that it is time for consumer protests. Their hunt for excuses for not paying out has gone far too extreme if 1% is the "legal" limit. It means a tiddelysquat, they just use their company power towards more or less defenseless consumers. How can an insurance company prove that an accident was caused by this or that? What if the 1% was in the positive direction, and an accident still happened? A bigger diameter of the tyre will as an example brake better...!
  11. We all choose different cars with different specs for our own satisfaction, whether it is performance or economy, consumption, looks, space or..... whatever. The fact is that everyone will stand up for and promote their choice and the positive aspects of their car. Anyway, the 1,8 TSI engine (my choice) has a different mapping when combined with 4x4: 280 Nm instead of 250 Nm. This is done to compensate for extra drivetrain weight and recistance. The 7-speed DSG cannot cope with this torque and consequently these cars has the 6-speed wet clutch DSG. The performance of my car is astonishing, also when the condition isn't the best. I cannot compare with a vRS, but I would definitvely call mine a "sleeper". https://youtu.be/CZu8G3XkFx8
  12. There is a delay when switching between D and R. The light click you vagely hear may be the selector lock that disengages. You can also feel it in the selector when in N and you press the brake pedal. It is a safety feature to avoid unintended gear selection.
  13. The Neptunes are delivered as standard or option for O2. Skoda (as well as all car manufacturers) renew their rim programes and change designs and styles for different versions and face lifts. Even so, the rims are interchangeable, in fact all rims for Oct2, Oct3, Yeti and Superb are interchangeable. The only speciality I know of is that vRS requires min. 17" (I think) to fit over the brake disks. I have Yeti-rims myself for my Oct3.
  14. Neptunes are exactly the same as the 18's for O3: ET51.
  15. As simple as that? Must be the top tip of the day!
  16. I've heard from people with here in Norway, that application of some kind of undercarriage coating are effective. I think it was an addition to the anti-rust coating, and applied on the plastic protection in the wheel arches as well. It was reported to have good effect on road noise. Just a thought, but maybe worthwile to check out. Check with your dealer or SUK which type they approve, as some may react with the factory applied anti-rust coating.
  17. Hi. Just to correct some data's. It seems that there are some misunderstandings regarding tyres and rims. A 205/55R16 tyre is 205 mm wide and the side wall height is 55% of that: 112.75 mm. On a 225/45R17 the side wall is 101.25 mm high. Consequently, the 225/40R18 is a tyre with side wall of 90 mm. As you see, for each step the side walls decrease with approx one centimeter. Hence the "cushioning" of the side wall will decrease. The side walls must also be reinforced because of this, and some low profile tyres are XL (extra load) only, with really stiff side walls just because flexing will destroy the tyre side wall. The circumference (outer diameter) is approx the same for all these tyre dimensions, it is the rim that is one inch bigger in diameter for each. So generally 16" is comfy, 17" is compromize but 225 wide. 18" is the sporty end (still 225 wide), but in my head suits lower sports suspension or vRS.
  18. Thank you, it tucks in my skis very nice! No, wait all 4 pairs (at the same time), together with all poles, a small snow showel, and even some shoes.....
  19. Finally the time has come to take off the winter wheels and put on the nicer: Wheel brand/name:Skoda Blossom, made by Borbet Size: 7x17 ET: 45 Tyre: Dunlop Sportmaxx RT 225/45R17 Any other mods, e.g. springs, coilovers etc: Stock Weight: ?
  20. Sorry, they don't fit. Not directly. Mk2 has a stud pattern of 5x112, Mk1 has 5x100.
  21. I did it before delivery of mine. It feels good and I actually think it's necessary if you intend to keep the undercarriage in good condition for a long time. I also think it is a good sales argument on the day you actually are going to sell the car. Even if the galvanizing prevents rust, it does not give a pariculary good protection against wear, scrapes and knocks. I asume a coating will reduce road and wheel noise, but I can't say for sure because I haven't driven the car without. But: check with your dealer WHICH type they approve (some types can react with the factory applied sealant and cause trouble). I was told that they don't allow any driling for application inside channels etc. But hey, all other surfaces including wheel arches behind the plastic are now coated.
  22. Maybe there is a market for second hand BMW alloys? If they are in good nick, they can give you some money in your pocket.....
  23. Well, they obviously broadcasts album art.I do not know why the list is blank, because this extract from the other photo is the station logo (?):
  24. I thought so too! Mine is Bolero. I started to fiddle with the buttons because of this post and found new features. I do not know why I don't get station logos in the list, only in other views. Is it due to different unit in the car, or is it due to different broadcasting central?
