  1. Thanks. I've read through that thread, and cleaned and checked all fuses, which hasn't resolved it.

I have removed the steering column surround to get a better idea of where the clicking noise is coming from, and it's coming from the ignition barrel.

I suspect the issue is with this, though I'm not sure what part exactly.

  2. I have a 2010 Octavia hatch. Today for the first time the gearbox wouldn't come out of park.

The car starts fine, when depressing the pedal the green light goes out on the dash as normal, but the selector won't move.

Interestingly, when pressing the button on the gear selector there is a clicking noise I can hear coming from the steering column.

I have checked fuses that look to be related but they're all fine. And I've trawled google and this forum for a while and can't find the answer.

    Any ideas?

  3. This relay method may not work because the relay coil may cause a voltage spike on switching just like a HID ballast may do. A ballast may put A.C. ripple on the BCM output in addition.  I think the safest solution to protect the BCM is a schottky diode in series and diode in parallel to kill any back emf spikes (reverse polarised). This should isolate the BCM. Most relays should be internally protected, but better to be safe than sorry. You'd still need to code for HIDs.

Would the supplied resistors not be a safe way to fool the BCM? Isn't that their only job  :peek:

  4. ;)

Will the 50w resistors in the loom be enough to fool the car, or would you recommend some other way to do this?

And where would you recommend mounting them?

Be aware that the plugs to go onto the bulbs would have to be cut off and spade terminals added as the ones on the plugs supplied (female 9006) will not fit the H7 bulbs needed for dipped headlights.

Which plugs would be needed? Or is spade terminals the only way to go?

  5. So essentially the wiring loom mimics the resistance produced by the halogen bulbs, fooling the car in to thinking the old bulbs are still in place?

If it successfully does this, then I can't see a reason why this would not work, or why any coding would be needed.

Someone please correct me if I am over simplifying however.

  6. As the previous thread went a little off topic, I thought I'd start a new one to try and get answers.

I'm keen to get HID's (obviously) before winter kicks in, when headlights are needed for every journey

As per this thread, and with help from softscoopmikeholroydlangers2kpaddypaws. It LOOKS like there may be a harmless way of fitting HID's without endangering the BCM.

I would like someone with more electrical knowledge than me to advise whether using this Relay Kit would work, and with no risk to the BCM? Would I need anything other than this?

Also, would anyone know whether any coding would need to be done to the car to let it know about the HID's, I wouldn't expect so?

I have zero electrical knowledge so any help is appreciated, as ever.   :bearhug:

  7. Hi,

I have just got my car back from being repaired after someone hit my front end in a car park.

The first time I went to collect my car the garage had made a few mistakes, mainly putting the wrong skoda badge on the front and putting the vrs badge in the wrong place  :S . So now I have picked it up and they have rectified that I have been looking in greater detail to see if there is anything else they have done wrong.

The only thing I have noticed is the headlight look misaligned. Now I can't remember if they were like this before it got hit, and it is just one of those things, or if they have reassembled it incorrectly.

Here are some pictures of the lights, can anyone look at theirs and confirm how they should fit? The offside sits slightly further forward than the nearside.

  8. Hi, firstly apologies if this has been covered. I have been searching the forum all morning and can't find any simple explanations as to what I need.

I have a FL Octavia, with Columbus/Maxidot/MFSW. I want to retrofit OEM bluetooth, as my Parrot has been pretty terrible since I installed it earlier this year.

I assume I would need a bluetooth module/microphone/wiring harness? What I would like to know is what exactly I need to buy as I can't find a straight answer here or anywhere.

  9. Seem's you have the same problem as I had ( battery in the alarm has given up the ghost), a good check is to drop drivers side window lock the car & madly wave your arm around inside the car !!! :D It should set the alarm off, if not it may be your alarm sounder is knackered. Its front drivers side wheel off, arch liner off, look up to your left inside the arch there is a metal box, 10mm spanner on the top nut holding the box to the inner wing, it will be riveted at the bottom I just pulled it out off the thread to get the the alarm unit, pop the connector off. I got one off ebay, for around £20 (used).

                                             Paul

Thanks for the info guys. However I did this check last night, and nothing happened, the alarm wouldn't go off no matter how much I waved!  :D  So is the alarm itself knackered? I would at least expect the lights to flash etc even if there is no actual sound?
