  1. Just what is it you want your cream leather to remember.... ?
  2. Out of a matter of interest, does anyone know how many Superb IIs have been sold in UK?
  3. ... a "but tense" !!!? Bracing yourself, were you?
  4. I guess its nice to have a safety margin, it's just that it is so noticeable on this car... it's so unlike either of the 2 Octavias that I've owned that I was beginning to think that perhaps the 4x4 had a 55 litre tank for some unexplained reason. Thanks for the comments, Puss
  5. I've only filled up the car about 8-10 times so far, but I always fill to the top (ie: Autocut, plus a couple of extra tries for luck!) I generally only fuel once the Range display goes below about 40 miles. So I reckon there shouldn't be much more than 1 gallon, 4.5 litres in the tank when I fuel. However, I have never managed to get more than 52 litres in the tank... ever. Now the tech specs say the tank holds 60 litres... but I was wondering if it was less for the 4x4, or if perhaps my sensors need recalibrating? Any ideas? Puss
  6. I have to say that I actually quite like the "Stay on this road for a long time" comment. I *really hate* Sat Navs that tell me to stay on the M25 for 7 miles, then to stay on it "again" and "again". OK, I know the road forks off in a lot of places but I'm staying on the M25, so tell me how long I'm going to be on it for, and stop telling me "not to turn off it!!" A bit of a rant, sorry. Perhaps its just the M25 that does this to me... ;-) Puss
  7. Well throw us a bone at least! How much and what bits of "everything" did you try? Puss.
  8. All you need is an SD card, a SatNav unit capable of using it eg: Columbus, and access to www.vwlabs.com which has free registration. Make sure you pick a suitable model car in your profile *when you first set up the account* (that was my problem... I picked a car that didn't use a system compatible with the Columbus unit so it didn't generate the vcf files with the GEO tag in them. Then I found that no matter waht I change the "my car" to, it still didn't work, so I had to delete the account and start again.) I use a "2009 VW Passat" setting and it works fine. Then as long as your Mac can download "Adobe Air" (and I understand Air v2.6 runs on OS X) which is needed for the Sync from website to computer, you should be fine. You don't "have" to sync to the SD card. you can sync to a hard disk directory, then copy to the SD card later. Make sure the vcf files are all in a directory on the SD card called "destinations", and make sure you have at least 1 MP3 file in the root of the SD card, otherwise the Columbus unit will assume it is empty! (but to answer your direct question, I am running from Windoze, so NOT I'm 100% sure it works on Mac, but its the Adobe Air bit you'd need to check) Puss.
  9. Just a quick update... Its now a week since deciding to switch off Wifi when I switch on BT on my HTC Desire, I have had no problems whatsoever with disconnects. Its working absolutely fine for my needs. (I have also now got full postcodes thanks to a v7 map update, and "Destinations" added from SD card, using VWLabs, and with help from some Briskodians. Thanks Guys!) Puss
  10. @spencem: Thanks for the advice. I changed my vehicle but same result. However, since that worked for you, I deleted my VWLabs account and recreated it.. Now it works fine! I guess it just doesn't register a change of vehicle after account set up....? Thanks! Puss
  11. @colsand: Thanks a lot... I'll sit in the car in the morning and try! The wife'll hate me! Puss
  12. Folks, some help appreciated. I have access to vwlabs for the NavCompanion... I have Adobe Air and the syncing is working fine My profile on vwlabs says I have a 2010 VW Tiguan (I have a Superb II 2010, actually) But... none of my VCF files ever contain the all important GEO tag with the destination co-ordinates! Any ideas? I've tried resetting my preferences to all sort of different (US) models.... no luck! If necessary I will edit all the VCFs by hand and add the co-ords... but I don't really want to. Without this GEO tag, the Columbus unit says "validation error" on each VCF file when loaded. Puss
  13. Sorry about this folks, as I realise that there are a tonne of entries on this general topic, the 7 digit post codes and the firmware, etc However, I find conflicting info about this particular question: "How do I upgrade just the maps?" I have a v7 disk - it was sealed and in the glove box I understand that if I put it in and basically nothing happens then it means that this version is already installed. Well, I got prompts for "Save" and "Temporary"... I understand that temporary means use the maps from DVD rather than install. Is that correct? Now, should I (a) switch on the ignition; ( start the car; If ( can I drive around while its installing? Is there any indication of install progress? I can't seem to see anything much happening... Basically, I have inserted the disk, got the "Save" or "Temporary" prompt, and selected "Save"... then nothing for about an hour and a half, when I got fed up, switched off and went indoors. ideas, opinions, or (preferably) the correct process? Puss
  14. My Nokia connected as BT name "SKODA_BT" and as an rSAP connection with the Premium[bT logo] on the maxidot. My HTC Desire connected as BT name "SKODA_BT" and an HFP connection with just the [bT logo] (and the media player logo) on the maxidot. Ok... its a columbus unit in a Superb, but the phone both pair on the same name by default.
  15. "However, the best thing all of us with 2010 cars onwards" Do you mean "backwards" ? (I'm going to check my box today, but I won't change: my work Nokia and my personal HTC Desire both basically work for me) Puss

  17. @ukcruiser: You are right! I spent a long time trying to find something like this, but obviously never hit on the right search string... Not sure how you add links to topics, but its in Superb II > Phone Compatibility List Phone List (hope that works!) Thanks for making me look again!
  18. That third icon! That's the one I've been asking about on a different (Superb II) forum. I called it the "Scroll Wheel iPod" icon. Would it possibly signify that you can use the phone as a media player over the BT connection, somehow? Puss
  19. Just a thought... I have been reading, and occasionally adding to, the various GSM III/+ , Android, Bluetooth topics around the place (in the Octavia and Superb forums), and it occurs to me that since Skoda (VAG generally) are onto a losing battle with their lists of "compatible" phones, and also that there seem to be many people who have worked out what parts to swap to get their phones working with their units... wouldn't it be useful to have a register of: BRISKODA nickname / Phone Maker / Phone Model / Country / Skoda Model / Skoda Comms Unit (eg: Columbus) / rSAP or HFP success / etc ? There are probably some other parameters useful to people who are in the know technically, but this would be a start and give people an idea if they are likely to achieve success simply (like I did) or if it involves buying extra bits on ebay... Any opinions? Puss
  20. Am I being a bit of a prat here? It suddenly occurred to me that it "looks" like an old scroll-wheel icon because it's meant to indicate some form of media player... Perhaps it means I can play media on my phone, over BT, through the car's speakers...? Is that it? I'm being dense I guess, because I'm not a great user of my smartphone (HTC Desire) for media listening/viewing. I mainly listen to radio shows and audiobooks, and I've spent about a week formatting these for playing in the car now that it's easy for me to do so: Unlike music tracks, audiobooks can be 6-10 hours long. I break them down into 5 minute "chapters" since it is far easier to skip around "tracks" that scan within a 6 hour long single track, I find. It makes it considerably easier to get back to where I was after playing some of the kids' stuff in the car. The SDHC card (mine is 32Gb and full!) is a god send... although I suppose I could use the HDD... but the SD card seems so much more convenient... or am I missing something? Puss
  21. OK... its been 2 and a bit days, and my unrooted "HTC Desire" hasn't disconnected once to my knowledge. This is since I turned off Wifi when turning on the BT as I get into the car. I have the phone book and it seems to get updates, at least the display on the Columbus says "Phone Book Update" occasionally on connection... I'm still wondering what the funny "scroll-wheel iPod" icon means... anyone know? Puss
  22. I'm 3 weeks into my almost new Superb CR170 4x4 Estate. I've had 2 Octavia Estates before (2004 L&K 1.9TDI estate and 2007 L&K 2.0TDI Estate with DSG) and these 3 weeks have been soooooo good! The Octavia is an excellent car for the money, and its reliability has, for me, been faultless... My sister has the 2004 Octavia now, and its approaching 100,000 miles. However, the lure and the dealer offer on the 6month old Superb was just too good to miss.... and boy! am I glad I took it. Although my children are still young (6 and 8) my youngest has ASD and we do tend to take a fair amount of stuff with us when we go places. The week I bought the Superb we took the Octavia to Germany and it was packed out, but not uncomfortable, because the children aren't too big yet... but I wouldn't do it with 10-12 year olds thats for sure. My Superb is an Elegance... well it had to be really as my previous Octavias had be L&Ks, so I didn't lose much in terms of functions I'd had before actually only front park sensors, auto-dip mirror, DSG and spare tyre. I never really wanted the front park sensors but they were already on the car at the dealer when I bought it. The auto-dip mirror, while great, wasn't worth missing the opportunity on getting this Superb, moving back to manual from DSG was a choice I was happy with and would have done anyway, even if I'd bought a Yeti (which was what I actually went to the dealer to look at!), and well Spare Tyre... none of them come with it now as standard anyway. And, I now have SO MANY new buttons to press, I probably won't have pressed them all until Christmas! I agree with the other post that if you have it for more than 30mins you won't want to give it back! Oh and the passenger space now means in spite of being 6 and 8, my kids no longer kick the back of my seat.... they can't even reach it !!!! [big Grin] Puss
  23. Well, I didn't do anything special, I haven't been prompted for that passcode again, and I do seem to have all my contacts loaded from the phone book. (that in itself is a feat... I have 4 separate Gmail/Google accounts on the phone and it sync'd from them all, so that's a real mess! But it worked.) I haven't tried SMS yet, and probably never will to be honest... unless there is general interest for me to do so. I drove back from Southampton this afternoon with no apparent problems with the connection, but when I went out earlier this evening for a short drive locally, it lost the connection about half a dozen times, but reconnected when asked to. On a related matter. When I connect my Nokia, the MFD says "Premium [bT Logo]", but when the HTC Desire is connected its a [bT Logo] and an "icon" that looks a bit like the old scroll-wheel ipods.... any ideas? Does this represent an rSAP and an HFD connection? (Do I mean HFD?) Puss UPDATE: My brother (who knows about phones... used to work for Symbian... says the Wifi and BT often share the same antenna. It could be the wifi kicking in that is disconnecting the BT. This does make sense... On a motorway drive the phone is unlikely to find any hotspots to try and connect to, but on my local/in town drives there are hundreds of them! I'll try disabling the Wifi when I enable the BT next time I'm in the car and see what happens for a couple of days... Puss
  24. I have paired an HTC Desire (after a short period of problems) which seems to be behaving itself, although I haven't looked at the phonebook or SMS functionality yet. And I have paired a bog-standard non-smart Nokia 6301 phone. This went like a dream. paired, connected, downloaded phonebook very quickly and no probs. So if you have a choice and want straight forward phone functionality, I would go with a dead cheap Nokia personally. Puss
  25. @VRS DSG / @ jrw thanks for the replies. At the moment the phone seems ok. I tried the connection again and I haven't yet been prompted for that password. Maybe the phone book download hasn't happened... I'll check that next, but at the moment the phone seems to connect fine, displays battery and signal strength fine, and answers calls fine. The sound quality is actually excellent! For info I am told the default O2 SIM pincode is 0000 or 5555. Puss
