  1. Well I've pulled out the shift linkage in the top of the box and striped it ,and it looks like there's a bearing inside that's collapsed . I think as the linkage lifts the selector to go to 5th its hitting the bits if collapsed bearing and locking out.. Its badly scored inside so a new mechanism might be in order or second hand if I can find a scrappy to sell me one and not a full box . Jim
  2. Well cheep tow cars at it again . I've lost 5th gear then 3-4th did the reset steps still no 5th there seems to be a lot of side movement in the selector rod that gos in the top of the gearbox .can this be removed and replaced without major box work? Thanks jim

  8. I ran my 90 tdi polo on svo 100% in the summer .it ran fine and I never had any problems ,but since I've discovered the veg oil forum and theres more to it than you think ,I believe (this is from memory but is readly available on forum) you should adjust the pump timeing retarding it slightly to give it more time to burn as veg is less combustible than diesel ,that's why it makes the engine sound less diesely on veg . Id never used used oil it needs to be propely dryed and filtered ,when you way up the damage it could couse to the pump and injectors it ain't worth it . And new oil is around same most the time as diesel so savings are minimal realy . Just my 2p worth Jim dose smell nice tho

  11. If you know 100% fight your corner .but I would contact trading see where you stand . Most honest garages would try help you out and keep the customer happy ,otherwise ask around your area and see what garage others use and go with good recomendation . There are good places but unfortnatly there are a few cowboy places that some how stay open and badly trading. Jim
  12. Lubed and runing free again . Lost all electric windows and sunroof on the weekend .so pulled some fuses randomly as I dident have a handbook for the car . Found a standard blade a 20 amp in rough shape so cleaned and replace and alls well again .
  13. Id say you could probably remove the head without removing the egr by just takeing the inlet manifold off with egr intact . So that's a possible, do you know the bolt and bracket was there and not snaped before? I'm not sideing with the garage but if you don't know for sure you gota give em benefit of the doubt ,the undertray could be an easy mistake or just the last half arsed job ,contact your local tradeing standards for best advice . Jim

  23. £44 from gsf . Striped down well but when I took the motor of the old mech the gear was nicely chewed by the old wire. I did what I could with it and built up the new mech and applyed lots of grease and oil so will see how we get on with it over time . Super smooth now .jim
