  1. I removed my wheel liners that are a horrible felt material that trap moister and remain wet forever... is there a plastic alternative on other models?
  2. sorted them, cut them off.. fronts and back.. fitted new ball joints, top mounts, and drop links...to then notice some muppet has fitted odd size front disks that do not fit the hub ans slip about, I think I have found what the rattle and clunk noise is.
  3. today set about swapping out the rear top mounts and drop links: top mounts, I removed didnt have a rubber bushing in them like the ones I replaced - is that normal? - drop link, terrible experience.. no room to get a nut on the bolt, only way it seems is to remove the caliper for which I do not have the correct star/ spleen fitting .. nightmare!
  4. I take it fronts are 288? Is this like the Fabia I had, just a matter of sourcing 312mm carriers and pop them on? Rears - I am confused as on Euros they offer 2 sizes for my reg : 253mm and 256mm very strange!

Interesting read I have a 2.0 tdi L&k on 109k miles.. that needs the suspension refreshing.. but I thought there is a difference in the MK2 struts, I thought the VRS strut has a 55mm diameter and the non VRS models have a 50mm diameter? Also I wonder if there is a difference with load weight for the diesel > petrol models? or is it a one size fits all?
  6. I have a lowish miles L&k Octavia, I have a 2007 without a DPF. I would like more than the 140bhp as standard. Love the comfort and gizmos on the car for the age.. I see these can have a generic remap to around 170bph.. But I dont know how reliable the clutch and turbo are then? I would be more inclined to get the car up to VRS spec, if possible could someone post me the differences, Unsure if the turbo is differant, injectors? internals/ clutch ?? Thanks
  7. I have too keep my car for years 10 at least, I want to know if there are any negative effects on the following: 1. Elephant mod/ catch can... Does this effect the cars idle, running temps etc? - Basically not a fan of recirculating old used exhaust gases back into the engine block, think it adds to the carbon build up and only reason it exists are emissions criteria. 2 EGR and cooler delete, is there any reason not to do this, and tips for coding out .. and recommendation in Lancashire
  8. 2007 octavia laurin & klement 17 inche wheels, but only 288mm front brakes discs is this correct? if so is it possible to use the calipers and source the 312mm carriers like I did on my old vrs?
  9. Cheers for that, they did say the rear bumpstops could do with changing. But it feels like front is the issue, hard to pinpoint what side feels like both. Tried driving over those central bumps for speed control with each wheel separately and feel it with both.
  10. My 07 tdi Octavia has not felt right since I got it, it flys though its MOT without advisories, its been checked by 2 VAG independents.. both say they cant find anything wrong with it... If I where to describe the "loose" knocking on small bumps, I would guess its a loose drop link, or gearbox mount / engine mount .. something is allowing travel on bumps and acceleration... But I cant afford a endless time sink into labour costs in diagnosing it further, the last Indy Vag specialist did a full health check, check everything under the ramp.. he said everything is safe, he cant find anything wrong.. come back if it gets worst... But I bought a L&K for a nice comfy ride, this is rattle knocky hell!
  11. After a new purchase of my L& k Octavia 57 plate 2.0 tdi, as it has no dpf it does not need 507 oil.. however every site aka euros/ opie all say vw507.. So I asked Opie, why do you suggest VW507 when its not needed as I do not have a DPF. He said yes your right you do not need VW507 and Vw505.01 is perfectly fine.. But he said 507 is a better oil and offers better protection.. Opie is usually clued up.. so I bought Mobile 1 ESP
  12. Hi thanks for your reply.. this is very interesting, I have actually already purchased oil. But I had a chat with Opie (oils) and his input was that as you say I do not need to use 507, but 507 is a better oil an offers better protection.. So I purchased Mobile 1 ESP oil that is speced to both 505.01 and 507.00... tbh price wise there is not that much difference in the oils, and on the whole most good oils are specced to both ratings
  13. I am looking at oil, and it seems the only reason to use VW507 oil, is if there s a DPF..I have a 57 plate 2.0 TDI BKD Laurin Klement
  14. I have the car booked in with a VW indy, for a timing belt and water pump.. question is at 109k miles have you any other suggestions.. I think I will ask them to do a gearbox oil change. I am wondering about the other belt is there just 1 aux belt? or is the air con on a separate one? should I get these done?
